Why is this utterly obnoxious, bordering on misogynistic, horrific name dropping, self obsessive suddenly everywhere.

didn’t we call time for men like him?

OP posts:
daisychain01 · 23/12/2022 07:19

I suppose it stands to reason GB has antequated views dating back to the ark, he was bezzie mates with the Duke of Edinburgh, birds of a feather flock together as they say😂

I find him mildly amusing and he's good with an anecdote for every occasion.

daisychain01 · 23/12/2022 07:21

He is an old white man and should be banished.

how is this comment acceptable? So he was born white and he's male. He can help that, how exactly?

Oldsu · 23/12/2022 07:21

I met him at a function I wasn't going to speak to him but he noticed my pink hair and came over to speak to me, during our conversation I mentioned how much I had enjoyed his canal boat series with Sheila Hancock as I had been on many boating holidays myself, he mentioned he actually found it quite frightening and how steering a canal boat is not as easy as it looks, I told him about the time I Jumped off a boat and fell face down in a muddy puddle in front of about 20 people, he thought it was hilarious, (which it was actually) later on he introduced me to a group of people and begged me to tell the story again he made me the centre of attention not him, I found him fascinating witty and funny

Ifailed · 23/12/2022 07:41

He does come across as a tedious fart, but if that was a reason for banning him from the telly, an awful lot of other 'celebs' would be joining him.

White? Ooh we don't want any of those on our screens do we? Derek Griffith's anyone?

I'm really struggling to see the relevance of Derek Griffiths in this.

Banished for being old or white? As we're apparently allowed to banish people on the grounds of their age or colour can I have that irritating middle aged, black man Romesh Ranganathan banished, too smug for words?

Coxspurplepippin · 23/12/2022 08:12

He's brilliant on JAM. He doesn't take himself seriously, some of his anecdotes are funny and he seems very good at drawing people out to talk about themselves. I liked the canal series - he and Sheila Hancock were a great pairing.

RumNotRun · 23/12/2022 08:17

I love the podcast with Susie Dent but did get annoyed at him talking over her, so I tweeted them saying that he should stop interrupting. I got a reply quite quickly from him, admitting he was a pain for it, but giving some self-deprecating reason. I thought that was nice that he'd taken the time to acknowledge me and reply.

Oh and personally I like hearing/seeing well spoken people on TV and radio, instead of those who don't enunciate, can't pronounce their "t"s, etc.

ohyouknowwhatshername · 23/12/2022 08:18

I think he's a very clever, funny man who wears silly jumpers. He doesn't offend me at all.

JiminyGlick · 23/12/2022 08:18

I like him! I’ve even been to see him live - he was very funny.

He’s a national treasure.

Byfleet · 23/12/2022 08:19

I am a Jeremy Corbyn voting leftie and I quite like GB. Just because someone is ubiquitous and has a posh voice it doesn’t necessarily mean they are awful. He’s not someone I would pay to see perform but he doesn’t bother me.

I know he is a Tory but I have never seen him promote the party or its policies when he is being an entertainer. I have never seen the misogyny either. Several people have asked what you meant about that. What’s the evidence for misogyny OP?

No, “we” didn’t.

sorrynotathome · 23/12/2022 08:28

He’s funny, interesting and easygoing. He’s not angry, cruel or spiteful. He might name-drop but he doesn’t spout filth & hatred against people he’s never met. He’s ok in my eyes.

rainbowstardrops · 23/12/2022 08:29

I like him.

KimberleyClark · 23/12/2022 08:35

I also like him.

LikeTearsInRain · 23/12/2022 08:35

What I don’t get is why he keeps giving callers dating/love advice on This Morning? Why is he considered an expert on this?

Again, I’ve not seen him on this but I’m wondering if GB giving dating advice is an entirely serious item?

AngelontopoftheTree · 23/12/2022 08:39

I like him, even if he is an "old white man" - so is my dad & I like him too.

He does it alongside other guests. One time it was Carol Vorderman. A lady in her 30s called saying she was struggling to find a man for a serious, committed relationship. Between the both of them they managed to suggest she try dating younger men in their early 20s as many of them like the maturity of an older woman (neglecting the fact the caller was fed up of dating people who flake when it gets serious - surely younger men are likely to do that?)

A grown man who used to own the teddy bear museum in Stratford Upon Avon. Just weird.

It's a commercial venture. Is everyone who runs a toy museum or curates a toy department in a museum weird, then? What about those bastards who, shock horror, own toy shops?

Turquoisesea · 23/12/2022 08:46

I like him, he’s got a real zest for life and is very witty.

SnowlayRoundabout · 23/12/2022 08:48

He's kind and funny, and doesn't take himself seriously. That's all fine by me.

So that’s a no then?

Sluj · 23/12/2022 08:50

I love him. I saw him on stage this year and he was funny, quick witted and self deprecating. He actually comes across as a very kind and thoughtful person. Somehow he has become one of those people I would love to meet in real life.
I am not in his age group, by the way, but respect his views and experiences - why wouldn't I?

Willmafrockfit · 23/12/2022 08:51

i saw him on QI
and I like him,
i am not a huge fan but he was funny - he is often on The one show isnt he?
