If you like bacon sandwiches

Then is normal to you?
Inspired by the boiled egg thread .

By default a bacon sandwich made by me means bacon between buttered...toast!

It doesn't stick to your palate and feels more substantial.
Am i right?

Nooooo.

It has to be thick white bread. Or granary.

anything but toast.

Coffeellama · 22/12/2022 17:50

You are not right! That’s a crap bacon toastie, or a bacon toasted sandwich. A bacon sandwich is a bacon sandwich. If you like that though then go for it!

FuckabethFuckor · 22/12/2022 17:50

I will happily devour either toast or bread, but the type of bread is crucial. Thick doorstop type sandwiches are better on bread, whereas with ‘normal’ (ie packet) bread I’ll go for toast.

Of course the choice, quantity and quality of the bacon overrules any bread debate so at one level it’s all moot.

nancydroo · 22/12/2022 17:50

Yes toast but the bacon fat must be crispy. HP sauce is a must and a naughty sprinkling of cheese!

Flamingogirl08 · 22/12/2022 17:50

Toast for me!

Hankunamatata · 22/12/2022 17:50

No no no. Lovely thick fluffy bread

FuckabethFuckor · 22/12/2022 17:51

I’ll also chuck bacon rolls into the mix.

WhatASmashingBlouseYouHaveOn · 22/12/2022 17:52

I'd say slightly toasted white bread, no butter needed as bacon is fatty enough. Brown or red sauce. Crispy bacon of course 😋

iklboo · 22/12/2022 17:53

Either a barm or thick white bread. Lots of butter. Not toast for me. I don't like the crunch.

Ted27 · 22/12/2022 17:53

Bagels

GCAcademic · 22/12/2022 17:53

The best is Dishoom’s bacon naan roll.

Hellocatshome · 22/12/2022 17:54

A stottie is the best way, fluffy white bread if necessary, never toast.

sneezums · 22/12/2022 17:54

Definitely thick white bread - preferably hand cut bloomer and not toast - yuk!

Fairislefandango · 22/12/2022 17:54

No - untoasted bread. It's all about the contrast between the soft, bland, fluffy bread and the crispy, salty bacon.

SophieJo · 22/12/2022 17:55

Lovely soft white bread or barmcake, back smoked bacon, lurpak, brown sauce and a fried egg.

WearyLady · 22/12/2022 17:55

Crispy white roll and mustard.

Mummieslncorporated · 22/12/2022 17:56

Not normal.

And as for mustard - how to ruin a good bacon roll!

Bananadramallamas · 22/12/2022 17:56

I like M&S submarine rolls, and really crispy bacon. 😋

MintyPrincess · 22/12/2022 17:57

@Flamingogirl08 yes!

Lochroy · 22/12/2022 17:59

NO! I'm all about toast for soldiers, but the texture of toast RUINS a bacon sandwich. Ditto seeds, flakes or any other nasties in the bread. Soft, squidgy white bread is the ONLY way to have a proper bacon sandwich.

Brainfogmcfogface · 22/12/2022 18:00

What?! What’s wrong with you!

Saucery · 22/12/2022 18:00

Double Crunch? Away with you.

Pickingmyselfup · 22/12/2022 18:01

A true bacon sandwich should consist of thickly buttered medium sliced white bread and non smoked bacon, not too crispy. Bacon must not be extra thick either, I thought it would make it better but it just wasn't right.

I sometimes deviate, I put sauce in, brown, fruity or ketchup, sometimes an egg and or cheese and sometimes sausage too but the above is the holy grail of a bacon sandwich.

Mistletoeandwinee · 22/12/2022 18:01

Has to be really soft white bread. Sorry you are wrong OP!

MajorCarolDanvers · 22/12/2022 18:02

Toast is nice. White bread is nice. Sourdough bread is great.

But absolute preference is in a roll from the bakers.
