If you like bacon sandwiches

Then is normal to you?
Inspired by the boiled egg thread .

By default a bacon sandwich made by me means bacon between buttered...toast!

It doesn't stick to your palate and feels more substantial.
Am i right?

My mum insists the best way is to toast just the outside of the bread and leave the inside untoasted. Not quite sure how, why or when she discovered that.

This

Untoasted fresh thick soft white bread, liberally spread with butter, a squirt of brown sauce and hot crispy bacon. Ketchup could be used instead of brown sauce if you absolutely must.

If you want to make the (perfectly valid) additions of fried egg and/or sausage (preferably Lorne), then it should be in a lightly toasted, buttered English muffin.

TolkiensFallow · 22/12/2022 18:44

NOOOOO

no toast.

thick doorstep bread, buttered, ideally with a fried egg.

Luredbyapomegranate · 22/12/2022 18:45

Nah. Get with the programme:

White farmhouse bread - thick and hand slice, thin spread of very soft butter, 2 slices of crispyish back bacon, 1 slice of crispy streaky bacon laid diagonally across them. Brown sauce.

Buttered toast, or toast with mayo

Buttered toast, or toast with mayo

Hello, police please...

BCBird · 22/12/2022 18:52

Serious business yet hilarious🤣

Neverknowinglysensible · 22/12/2022 18:56

Back bacon.
If it’s sliced bread, HP sauce, no butter. If it’s a fairly (but not rock hard) crusty roll, then HP sauce, butter and mushrooms must be added. If it’s toast, then butter, mayo and iceberg lettuce are essential.

Wilkolampshade · 22/12/2022 18:56

Barm, bacon, smoked, fat rendered properly but not necessarily crispy, after cooking bacon wipe interior of barm around frying pan to mop up delicious balcony grease, swipe of cheap marg, brown sauce.

Againstmachine · 22/12/2022 18:58

A white bread roll brown sauce no butter and no toasting.

Blanketpolicy · 22/12/2022 19:01

Bacon medallions
Well buttered thick sliced white bread
Tattie scone
Heinz tomato ketchup

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 22/12/2022 19:02

No you are not. Disgraceful behaviour 😂

My DH makes it with toast. I very nearly dumped him the first time he made me a bacon sarnie. You need a nice soft floury bread roll instead.

CorporateBull · 22/12/2022 19:02

Middle bacon if available, white bread, dipped in pan fat and also buttered (because I’m filthy), fried egg.

Also worth trying is a bacon sandwich made with potato farls.

Craftybodger · 22/12/2022 19:02

Soft white sandwich loaf, thick sliced. “Packet bread”. With ketchup and unsmoked bacon.

AuntieSoap · 22/12/2022 19:03

Unless it's an oven bottom roll, toast rules

grumpycow1 · 22/12/2022 19:04

Eww! Toast is not right. Thick white bread and butter, little bit of ketchup!

Aprilx · 22/12/2022 19:04

I can do either bread, toast or a roll.

musicandpassion · 22/12/2022 19:04

I'm with you OP. Bacon should always be on toast. Bread is far too claggy when the bacon touches it. I'd rather have a barmcake than just bread, but toast always tops them all.

chickbean · 22/12/2022 19:05

Can't bear butter on hot sandwiches, which is a shame, because all the bacon rolls at my daughter's football are pre-buttered. Had may best ever bacon sandwich at another football club though - white roll, lightly toasted on the inside (never had that before - it was a revelation), no butter and lots of lovely crispy bacon - and it was only £2!!! I'd move my daughter to that football club if it wasn't 45 minutes away, purely on the quality of the bacon butties.

The best is Dishoom’s bacon naan roll.

I make a copycat version of this at home, it is very good.

But I'm equally happy with bacon and brown sauce in Warburtons thick white sliced (untoasted).

BeastOfBODMAS · 22/12/2022 19:06

No. You put two slices of bread together in one hole of the toaster. Then you have toast on the outside of the sandwich for structure and grip, but bread on the inside of the sandwich to soak up the buttery bacony goodness.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 22/12/2022 19:08

You've reminded me that my husband always did this when we first got together, I find it odd!

Piglet89 · 22/12/2022 19:11

scottishscran.com/scottish-morning-rolls-recipe/

a Scottish morning roll. Butter. Ketchup.

moving away from bacon in the middle entirely - these are cracking with Lorne sausage/black pudding in middle. A so-called “doubler” if you use both.

just EPIC.

speakout · 22/12/2022 19:13

A Scottish roll= often bought from a newsagent at 8..30 on a Sunday morning.
A soft roll is unpleasant.
Scottish rolls are a breed apart- floury, often well fired, chewy, open textured, rough bottom. Like no other bread and makes for the ultimate bacon roll.

OhChristmasTreeOhChristmasTreeFaLaLa · 22/12/2022 19:13

Got to be bread, preferably white and big thick slice yourself slices. Bit of ketchup, perfect. My parents always put marg or butter on the bread but my husband is a no butter/marge on sandwiches man unless it's toast, I've come round to his school of thought although melted butter on the bread with the bacon is lush. I seem to be giving this a lot of thought 😆
