Pushchair fight on bus

Partygal · 19/12/2022 22:25

After picking my child up from her child minder today, I arrived the bus stop to find two women with buggies waiting.

Knowing that the driver wouldn’t let three of us on, I walked round the corner to the previous stop and got on there.

When it arrived at the next stop, sure enough only mum was allowed on - the other was told to wait 30 minutes for the next bus. I was screamed at and called a cunt and a queue jumper by one mum who tried to shove me off the bus.

I don’t think I did anything wrong, nor did the police when they turned up after being called by the driver.

What the fuck is wrong with people?

I feel sorry for the other passengers who had to deal with this disruption to their day from three rather unpleasant mothers...

stopthebarking · 19/12/2022 22:49

Setting a fine example for the children, too.

Georgeskitchen · 19/12/2022 22:50

You snooze you lose in my book😆 either or both of the 2 mothers could have walked to the earlier stop, you just used your initiative!!

Toomuchschool · 19/12/2022 22:50

You realised that the other DMs had been waiting longer than you, and deliberately manoeuvred to make sure that you took one of their spaces.

So they and their DC were waiting up to an hour in the cold, and you only waited a couple of minutes.

Pretty mean behaviour towards another DM. Especially as you didn’t use the time between stops to fold your pushchair.

But I guess if this is your regular route and also theirs, you may live to regret it.

Bagsundermyeyestoday · 19/12/2022 22:50

Pretty low thing to do, don't be surprised if karma kicks you in the a**

eurochick · 19/12/2022 22:52

I think it's fair enough. You got on earlier, regardless of the reason why. Commuters between train station will sometimes drive to the further one to give them a better chance of getting a seat.

What did the police say?

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 19/12/2022 22:52

Have to say OP I was expecting there to be a story where women were smacking in each with prams on a bus. Very disappointed 😂

Anyway YANBU - smart move! It’s every man (every pram?) for himself when it comes to Bus Wars. Especially in winter.

AllOfThemWitches · 19/12/2022 22:53

These replies are funny. OP, had you come here and asked 'wibu to scream at, shove and call another mum a 'cunt' because she walked to a different bus stop' you'd get the same posters telling you you were indeed unreasonable. They just do it for the sake of it.

Maskedpotato · 19/12/2022 22:53

I bet the rest of the passengers loved you lot with their journey being disrupted by the police coming out. So classy.

amicissimma · 19/12/2022 22:54

I'm old enough to have always had to fold the buggy, so I find it hard to understand why people don't these days. I think, as you knew there were two more waiting at the next stop, it would have been nice to fold as soon as you got on.

OTOH, I can't see why people object to you walking to the previous stop. If you can, so can anyone else.

When I was commuting in London I generally went 3 or 4 stops in the wrong direction in order to get on the tube at all. Which anyone else could do, too.

Probably the sort of thing someone would film and post online.

Partygal · 19/12/2022 22:55

I don’t know what the police said because they took the other woman off the bus with her mate, and spoke to them on the pavement.

I don't think you did anything wrong.

I often go up one stop to the end of my tube line then back through my own station to get a seat. I've never looked on it as sneaky.

Bananarama21 · 19/12/2022 22:40

You sound quite proud that you beaten them to it so to speak. Such shameful appalling behaviour.

A tad hyperbolic there?

Lockheart · 19/12/2022 22:37

It's not queue jumping to get on at an earlier stop. There is nothing which obligates you to board the bus at any particular stop.

She saw they were waiting before her and decided to go to the earlier stop knowing one of them (who had been waiting longer) wouldn’t be able to board. She might technically be within her rights to do that, but it’s a shitty thing to do.

ScroogeMcDuckling · 19/12/2022 22:57

🤣🤣🤣

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 19/12/2022 22:58

This thread is funny indeed. I love that someone has decided that the other mum waited for a whole hour.

This is MN. I’m surprised you weren’t told to go and buy them a crème egg and hand over your baby instead. You’re so SeLFisH

JoyBeorge · 19/12/2022 22:58

I'd ban buggys from busses altogether myself. All too often selfish entitled mums refuse to allow wheelchair users on. It's disgusting. They'd soon be shouting if their child was a wheelchair user and they couldn't get on.

TheMightyOak · 19/12/2022 22:59

Sneaky and not nice.

Honestly this is a problem for the bus company - not OP. If bus provider can’t fit everyone on who needs their services with their current bus timetable, it’s not really fair for OP to be shoved and shouted at by other passengers and take the brunt of the aggression

Nice.

If only she had a man to keep her in cheek Hmm

WallaceinAnderland · 19/12/2022 22:59

The driver kept the whole bus waiting until the police arrived?
