Pushchair fight on bus

Partygal · 19/12/2022 22:25

After picking my child up from her child minder today, I arrived the bus stop to find two women with buggies waiting.

Knowing that the driver wouldn’t let three of us on, I walked round the corner to the previous stop and got on there.

When it arrived at the next stop, sure enough only mum was allowed on - the other was told to wait 30 minutes for the next bus. I was screamed at and called a cunt and a queue jumper by one mum who tried to shove me off the bus.

I don’t think I did anything wrong, nor did the police when they turned up after being called by the driver.

What the fuck is wrong with people?

They are different scenarios which is unknown if people will have to wait longer unlike a bus with 2 spaces,if there was 2 seats in a train and the person before you was heading towards it, would you climb the chairs to sit there 1st before that person or wait for an empty seat.

Yes, what is wrong with you, OP?

Why on earth wouldn't you facilitate a solution where all three mothers with young children are able to get on the bus, out of the cold, and safely on their way home. Like folding down one or more of the buggies. Which is clearly the responsibility of the person who oh so sneakily got on the bus first i.e. you!

KatherineJaneway · 20/12/2022 07:54

You did nothing wrong.

dampthursday · 20/12/2022 07:55

I mean it’s morally dubious, as they had been waiting longer than you and you knew that you were taking up one of ‘their’ spaces on the bus. However it’s not queue jumping. You got on the bus first because you bothered to walk to an earlier stop.

Were you planning on folding your buggy to make room for everyone up until the point when they called you a cunt? If you weren’t then that is VU.

Q2C4 · 20/12/2022 00:02

Those saying they would fold your buggies... where do you put all the staff in the basket? Ie the changing bag, cool bag for milk, pram rain cover etc (& that's before you include any shopping or your handbag etc). There is no way I could carry all that plus a baby.

Strangely people managed for generations before buggies.

TidyDancer · 19/12/2022 23:00

Part of me thinks that was quite clever of you and part of me thinks it was a dick move and you were sneaky and selfish. I agree with both sides of me tbh.

I think you should've folded your buggy. You did what you did fully aware that you'd be depriving someone of a place who had been waiting longer than you. The behaviour of the others that came after that clearly wasn't acceptable but I can understand why they were upset.

I think you were more in the wrong than the right basically.

I agree with @TidyDancer

What you did was pretty shabby. You deliberately deprived someone of a space, knowing they had been waiting longer than you

Worldwide2 · 20/12/2022 08:00

So you went round the corner to get on a bus first knowing 2 mums were waiting first and your pushchair folds? You made a dick move and you know it. CF at its finest.

quitefranklyabsurd · 20/12/2022 08:02

You did nothing wrong at all. I used to routinely walk to a bus stop slightly further away so I could get a seat when I commented by bus.

nothing ethically dubious about it at all.

AllyCatTown · 20/12/2022 08:02

So pushchair could have folded but you waited until it got to their bus stop to decide they weren’t worthy of it? Why didn’t you just fold it when you got on?

dampthursday · 20/12/2022 08:03

JoyBeorge · 20/12/2022 07:56

Not on the bus they didn’t.

I always have too much stuff in my basket to be able to carry that, the folded pram and my baby. I think if I ever had to fold my pram I would just have to get off the bus and wait for the next one 😬

Indeed! And a backpack or shoulder bag seemed to have held the stuff that was necessary.

What about mums with newborn babies in their bassinet prams, rural areas, can’t drive so have to rely on buses? How the hell would they get on if only umbrella prams were permitted on buses?

For fuck sake.

There was a time people just carried newborns..

KatherineJaneway · 20/12/2022 07:54

You did nothing wrong.

No wonder there are so many shitty arseholes who push in all the time. So you'd be happy if someone just pushed in front of you in a queue, when there was a big delay before the next bus. That's in effect what the OP has done. Not cool.

SleeplessInEngland · 20/12/2022 08:10

Bananarama21 · 19/12/2022 22:37

She likely thought you were a CF. Have you got no shame. I'd have thought less of you aswell.

Then you’re an idiot. The OP walked further to secure a place. She put the work in and got a reward.

Ifailed · 20/12/2022 08:13

OP didn't queue jump, she left one longer queue and walked to a shorter queue.

I am not a shitty arshole and I don't push in a queue thank you very much 😒

OP didn't push in front, she wasn't in a queue. She walked to the previous bus stop to make sure she got on the bus. I've done this before, not with a buggy but when the tube goes down on a section of the line. Everyone goes to the bus stop the station staff point you to, I and a few canny others go to the stop before that. This means I don't wait ages to try and get on a bus. If the tube station at my mainline station is rammed I wont try and get on, I'll take the tube back a few stops to get on and get a seat then travel home. Not shitty, just sensible.

Elmo230885 · 20/12/2022 08:14

Partygal · 19/12/2022 22:36

The one mum who got on the bus shoved me. NO WAY was I folding after that.

So you could have got on and folded the buggy up, thus avoiding the whole thing.

Ifailed · 20/12/2022 08:13

Correct. A lot of people on this thread don’t seem to understand how bus stops work.

Being shoved, called a cunt and having the police called isn't much of a reward 🤣

BuffyFanForever · 20/12/2022 08:15

You did jump the queue! Obviously shouldn’t have any abused levelled at you but you know what you did was quite out of order. Wait your turn next time!

Mouk · 20/12/2022 08:17

Clever move, but morally wrong. I'd say you were smug and proud of yourself. The other mother over-reacted though, and it's unfortunate the children had to witness the whole thing, police being called, the word 'cunt' being shouted.

You should have folded your buggy though before the other 2 women got on.

What boils my blood though is when someone won't fold the buggy down for a wheelchair user. A wheelchair user can't exactly stand and fold their wheelchair. I imagine the bus driver would insist a buggy user fold it and hold baby on their lap.

Ohhmydays · 20/12/2022 08:17

Elsiebear90 · 19/12/2022 22:34

Her reaction was over the top and she was completely out of order, but you did a shitty thing jumping the queue like that.

This. And I would also think worse of u if any of the children were younger than your ie still a baby that u can’t sit for a second to fold buggy and put it away. My son is 7months and if I saw someone wanting on with a baby younger I would still take him out and fold mine
