Pushchair fight on bus

Partygal · 19/12/2022 22:25

After picking my child up from her child minder today, I arrived the bus stop to find two women with buggies waiting.

Knowing that the driver wouldn’t let three of us on, I walked round the corner to the previous stop and got on there.

When it arrived at the next stop, sure enough only mum was allowed on - the other was told to wait 30 minutes for the next bus. I was screamed at and called a cunt and a queue jumper by one mum who tried to shove me off the bus.

I don’t think I did anything wrong, nor did the police when they turned up after being called by the driver.

What the fuck is wrong with people?

Who dares wins!

Startwithamimosa · 20/12/2022 06:33

What a miserable world we would live in if everyone acted this way. I'm guessing this won't be the only instance where you've 'outsmarted' others. Well done Hmm

pictish · 20/12/2022 06:42

It's dog eat dog when it comes to buggy war on the bus. I encountered my fair share of this when mine were little. If I'd thought of it and been bothered to, I'd have done it too. When I'm trying to get home after a long day on the go, it's all about me. I think most people are the same.

Downtown123 · 20/12/2022 06:49

That’s the kind of selfish world we live in now. Dog eat dog, you done a nasty thing to them, they did a nasty thing to you oh well might of taught you a lesson

1001Daffodils · 20/12/2022 06:58

It was a shitty thing to do and you know it. Like you said yourself "What is wrong with some people?"

But hey it doesn't matter that you fucked up someone else's day on purpose.

Benjispruce4 · 20/12/2022 07:00

You were sneaky but within your rights. You knew that one of those women wouldn’t tbe allowed on. If you’ve been standing around in the cold for a bus you’d be pretty pissed off to realise what you did. However that’s as far as it should have gone. But not nice behaviour OP.

Was your pushchair foldable?

You acted knowing that you would be taking the place of someone who had been waiting longer than you.

Technically you didn't break any rules, but you were selfish and sneaky in your actions. If your pushchair was foldable then you could have folded it, put it in the bag bit and held your child.

This

Whatmarbles · 20/12/2022 07:06

Out of order!

You thought you were clever and you got your comeuppance from the rightly pissed off woman.

A really shitty thing to do.

EasterIsland · 20/12/2022 07:15

YABU - all of you - for not folding your buggies to give other people room. So entitled and ableist.

EasterIsland · 20/12/2022 07:18

NO WAY was I folding after that.

so selfish @Partygal All buggies should be folded. You are not the only passengers.

cloudsandream · 20/12/2022 07:20

Yawn. Story was somewhat believable till OPs update about the supposed police turning up. She was assaulted and the police didn’t speak to her at all? Nice try.

Ideasideas · 20/12/2022 07:24

That wasn't nice of you OP. It's a shame she shoved and insulted you as she made you seem like the decent one in this situation!

Climbles · 20/12/2022 07:26

You deliberately stitched up those other mums. Just because something isn’t illegal doesn’t mean it wasn’t a dick move.
How would you have felt if someone had done that to you?
I’m not sure if all the ‘it’s completely fine’ responses are from people who haven’t waited for a bus for an hour in the cold with a young child. Mumsnet is a weird place sometimes.

Skyeheather · 20/12/2022 07:28

I often walk to an earlier bus stop so I can get my pushchair on before someone else, nothing wrong with that it's called good planning.

There could have been another pram on already when you boarded so neither of them would have got on.

I think that if you want to board a bus with a pram you have to accept you may not get on the first one that comes along and you may need to wait. You also have to accept that you will need to get off if a wheelchair needs to get on.

I can't believe the number of people on here saying you are sneaky, shocking.

anyolddinosaur · 20/12/2022 07:30

Well if the police were just told you got on at the previous stop they would think nothing wrong. You did nothing illegal, just underhand and nasty. Shoving you was illegal, I imagine the police said that but calling you a queue jumper was entirely justified. Mumsnet seems to have lost any morals.

Benjispruce4 · 20/12/2022 07:31

It’s sneaky when you click the two waiting and deliberately set out to beat them. I couldn’t do that to another mum.

Benjispruce4 · 20/12/2022 07:31

*clock

SomethingOriginal2 · 20/12/2022 07:32

Very shitty but clever. Really is a "I'm the most important person in the world, fuck the rest of you" thing to do.

DDivaStar · 20/12/2022 07:32

It wasn't technically wrong but it was sneaky and mean.

You could of said Hi to the other mums and asked if they'd help you fold your buggy so you can all get on the next bus.

user1478939671 · 20/12/2022 07:34

YANBU None of these women pay your rent, you owe them nothing and there is no law moral or otherwise (yet) that demands you only use certain bus stops.

True and very nice an all but can just imagine these women giving her the stink eye for asking them to help fold her buggy.

Museya15 · 20/12/2022 07:37

You were asking for trouble with that move.

Esquire3 · 20/12/2022 07:38

You was being a smug arse when really it wouldn't of hurt you to wait your turn!it shows a character that isn't very likeable

Lockheart · 20/12/2022 07:39

So when someone walks past the crowd of people who don't move down the tube platform so they can get to the end of the platform and a quiet carriage to get on / get a seat, is that queue jumping?

If you know temporary traffic lights are screwing up one road and you take another to get around them instead of sitting in traffic, is that queue jumping?

If there is an empty checkout in a shop but everyone's queuing at the more convenient one on the other side of the shop and you use the empty one, is that queue jumping?

If you know where the train stops so you wait in a free spot where you know the door will be even though there are others dotted about the platform, is that queue jumping?

Anonymouslyposting · 20/12/2022 07:48

Yep, you queue jumped which is a dick move so I’d have been very annoyed if I was one of the mum’s waiting. That said, shoving you and swearing is completely unacceptable, especially in front of children.
