I bought a JOIE 360° car seat which at the time seemed extortionate but when I look at how much ease it has given me over the years I think it was worth every penny.
Ditto expensive Dr Marten boots.

AIBU to ask what you've considered expensive when you bought it but in hindsight realised was worth it?

These coats are unethical

Read about how they have been made!!?

The company was also sold years ago to a private equity firm and they are made very very cheaply now, not good quality at all. They put the prices up £££ for all the people who like to pay branded premium. Much better makes put there. Guess depends when you bought yours though.

Fairislefandango · 20/04/2023 20:59

Natural fibre yarn for knitting, which can be really expensive, especially if you're buying enough to make a whole jumper! Definitely worth it though - I don't like using synthetic stuff.

I've never know a GP visit to a pregnant lady as a nurse and as a pregnant woman. I think I saw my GP twice and that is both my pregnancies

A private hip replacement operation that uses a technique not available on the NHS.

Oh please tell - I'm desperate for a new hip (in year 3 of a 2 year waiting list).

Smeg bean to cup - stylish and fab coffee
Duvetica down coat - bought for £300 in the sale in 2014 and worn on the coldest days every winter. Still good as new.
Le chameau neoprene wellies - toastie, stylish and great ankle support.
Cosmetic dentistry - look like I've had a face lift - the treatment included a small tweak to my alignment) giving me a better jawline and more pronounced cheekbones as well as now having a perfect smile. Cost a packet but v. worth it.

Notellinganyone · 22/04/2023 09:36

@Sunsetintheeast - yes. They kept v close eye and we were about to have a scan when I went into labour. Movements etc were fine. In France 42 weeks is considered full term.

I've never know a GP visit to a pregnant lady as a nurse and as a pregnant woman. I think I saw my GP twice and that is both my pregnancies

I had a home birth in the 70s, home births seem more common now but were really discouraged at the time, at least in my area they were. My GP was unusual and very pro home births. The day I went into labour he was informed by the midwife and he kept sneaking out of the back door at the surgery between patients to come and see how I was doing. I honestly can't remember how many times he came but the queue at the surgery must have been long. I did live a few doors away from the surgery so it wasn't far for him to come.

He came back later in the day as I needed stitches and then popped in again when he finished evening surgery. I might have used up all the doctors doing home visits to pregnant women.

One day I was shopping and my baby was now a 3 year old and we bumped into the GP shopping with his wife. He introduced my son to his wife saying, "This is one of my babies." To my son he said, "This is the lady who gives me pocket money."

A Wenger mini rucksack. I used to go through about 2 or 3 a year with ones bought from the luggage shop (ca. £20-30), but I bought a Wenger at TK Maxx for £50 and it has lasted me 3 years - no zips are broken, nor is it torn internally.

I have a Karrimor.

I can't remember the exact price, but my mother nearly fainted. However I've had it for nearly 50 years and apart from a bit of mildew staining (my fault - put it away damp and forgot it) it is as good as new, and as it is padded in the area against the spine it is very comfortable.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 12/05/2023 09:20

Sheepskin house boots from Celtic. Unlike Uggs, made in the U.K.
I live in them in winter - and you can wash them in the machine.

Emotionalstorm · 12/05/2023 09:24
  • Harvey water softener (no limescale and better skin and hair)
  • Toto toilet (if you get poo on anywhere else on your body would you just wipe it with a dry piece of toilet roll?)
  • Kitchen knives from the Japanese Knife Company
  • Combi microwave that does steaming, grilling, fan oven stuff and microwaving.
  • Ercol furniture
  • Air conditioner
  • Herman Miller Aeron office chair for the study
BTMadmummy · 16/05/2023 12:19

Colourtrend ceramic matt paint - expensive, but worth every penny. You can literally scrub it.

venerabletilly · 17/05/2023 11:03

Good quality shoes and clothes. The best you can for shoes. I think it's possible to mix quality for some clothing.

Reusable nappies (bamboo plus liners and cover) never leaked, no rashes, and not hot in the warmer months.

Fairy washing powder. The cheaper versions just irritate.
