It seems to be rife! Basically, bad cold / flu like symptoms, chesty cough (not Covid) BUT, it hits you like a freight train for about a week, then you feel better for a few days BUT IT COMES BACK WORSE?

I can’t recall ever feeling this rough, and it’s not just me there are 13 children off school in my child’s class with the same thing, and the parents in the group chat saying similar although some lucky ducks have dodged it.

Wondering if this is happening everywhere or just in our wee village?

We have all had a bad cold before but the fact it goes and comes back is weird, it’s really dragging on now I’m into the third week of it.

Yabu - no such thing happening near us
Yanbu - it’s everywhere and I’m sick of it now

YES! I had a heavy, leaden head on Sunday, headache, felt dizzy, thought it was side effect of covid jab, but then a really sore throat and bunged up weak feeling has been here since. It's not fun.

Had this about 4 weeks ago. Only started to feel less fatigued in the last week 🤞 it turned in to a sinus infection and I got antibiotics which helped.

I had bright yellow (like nearly neon) mucus coming in waves from my nose. Very attractive I’m sure. I’d be interested to hear if anyone else with this illness had the BRIGHT yellow snot in droves?

Ive got weird yellow snot coming out my throat when i cough

What are you all eating? I need to eat or I will feel weaker but I'm still shivering under the duvet. My throat feels in tatters and my eye balls on fire. Sad

Hot water to drink and honey, and soup

Florenz · 16/12/2022 17:10

Are you sure it's not COVID? It's going around again, I've got it at the moment, felt terrible earlier in the week, OK now but still testing positive. 4 people I work with also have it.,

ConfusedmumUC · 16/12/2022 17:11

Imisscoffee2021 · 16/12/2022 17:07

I've got it at ten weeks pregnant with first and it's an ivf oregnancy so I'm freaking out it'll effect the baby!

Oh no! Please try not to worry, women’s bodies are phenomenal at protecting their growing baby. Congratulations on your pregnancy, I’m so sorry you’re under the weather so early on though! X

Yes! I have just had to have a few days off work as it hit me like a freight train. I just ached all over and couldn’t eat anything as I would just wretch. It started as a cold a couple of weeks ago and I just had a series of mild symptoms one after the other and then suddenly it hit with full force. Still getting over it. Used so many tissues!

My local pharmacy have actually sold out of all but the most fancy, over the top, expensive tissues that are 2 ply.
I am using loo roll instead for my nose, which feels like using sandpaper.
I want soft 3 ply ones, pretty please! And for the sore throat to go away.

I only had 4 tests left, I’ve done my daughter twice and myself twice on Tuesday and both negative but some have said the old tests don’t pick up the new strain so now I am wondering! I’ve not had Covid at all since it began so I’m not even sure what it feels like to compare.

We have it too. We thought it was SF and the kids have had antibiotics but the rash disappeared as quickly as it started and they've had a lot of the symptoms listed. DS1 has had the sore teeth (he's 4, his teeth are fine) and is still coughing after 3 weeks. DS2 is on his knees with mucus cough, pulling up goo and coughing himself sick for 3 weeks and still so unwell. DH and I have had all the symptoms. I'm now a week in and miserable, feels like depression.

IS there a new strain?
Does it give one a very painful sore throat?

Mumof3lads · 16/12/2022 17:18

I'm on week three.. likewise, couple of days feel better then wham!!! Here we go again. It's horrific.

Choobyscoopy · 16/12/2022 17:21

I've had this!! And im not even in the uk..Europe though. Its horrendous. Felt like i couldnt breathe properly and had to use asthma pipe for the first time ever. On the mend now. Hang in there!!

Tiredmum100 · 16/12/2022 17:21

Yes, dh and ds have both been ill this week. Dh never goes off sick, ever, he has been home all week. I've never seen him so ill. Ds was ill got better and ill again, much worse the 2nd time. I've started with a cough yesterday so I'm bracing myself!

HirplesWithHaggis · 16/12/2022 17:22

I'm into week 3. Dh is a star. Anyone else really emotional with it? I'm usually quite chill, but now grumpy as fuck and on the verge of tears all the time, for good and bad reasons.

NHSmummy84 · 16/12/2022 17:22

I had sore teeth with it. They felt bruised. So strange!

TheMousePipes · 16/12/2022 17:23

I started this game early November, had a cold and a cough for a week then it went away. Then it came back very end of November and I’ve been ill ever since.
Awful cough - coughed so hard I vomited, it’s only just starting to clear but if I go out into the cold it comes straight back. So tired all the time, with dizziness and nausea as well. Earache, massive headache, sore teeth.
I hope you’re all feeling better soon.

Imisscoffee2021 · 16/12/2022 17:23

Thank you @ConfusedmumUC , saw the baby wriggling away on Wednesday on an early scan then woke Thursday feeling like I'd been hit by a bus, can't help but worry after the long journey of infertility, just need to trust my body and hope I'm feeling it so bad because the immune system is diverting it from baby!

haveyouopenedyourbowelstoday · 16/12/2022 17:23

ED nurse here. We swab all those who present with cough, cold, short of breath symptoms and there is definitely an increase in both types of flu and covid...so much so that front line staff with negative LFT's are sent for PCR's now.
I suspect I had it a few weeks ago. It was grim.

OnTheRunWithMannyMontana · 16/12/2022 17:25

Yep 3.5 weeks in, a course of antibiotics, lots of night nurse and painkillers and I'm still congested and croaky. Just can't seem to shift it. DH and DD have had it too.

Weirdly DCat now has a URTI and is on antibiotics and anti-inflammatories which makes me wonder if it's transferable!

Yes!!! I had exactly the same. Combined with this awful yellow liquid streaming from my left sinus. Ended up on penicillin for a sinus infection.

PineConeQueen · 16/12/2022 17:28

My two year old and I have been sick for a month. I’m all on my own and really struggling. We’re up all night coughing and exhausted. Saw the doctor because my son has had three fevers in that time and they can’t figure out why. Maybe it’s the same thing three times over, but it’s brutal.

So so so tired!

Spitspotspitspot · 16/12/2022 17:31

Echoing all of the other posters here! Did you know that you can cough, sneeze and pee yourself all at once…. Allegedly! 😂

MoirasSaggyBundles · 16/12/2022 17:31

Have had back to back lurgies. First one in mid November. I think it may have been Scarlett Fever, because I had a horrible flu like set of symptoms plus a really painful, itchy sandpaper rash all over my torso. It was before the emergence of this virus hitting the news headlines though, so I didn't go to the doctors, as I thought it was just a "cold rash". I still have a bit of the rash on my back. I had that for 2 weeks, felt ok for about a week, then got a really awful coughing/chesty flu from my daughter, who brought it home from school (where it had ripped through the population). We both had scary high temperatures and flu symptoms. She bounced back after about a week of it. Not me, I'm on day 11. The fever went, but I still have a sore throat and a bit of a chesty cough, snotty nose (and I think a burst sinus, as lots of blood and crap coming down my nose) plus little appetite, loose stomach, mouth ulcers, dizziness/head ringing and tiredness that is not cured by sleep. Add a migraine onto it all this morning, and you've got yourself one utterly fed up person. I'm usually an active gym bunny who doesn't get ill often. This has knocked me for six, and I have felt quite depressed not going our or exercising. Have zero feelings about Xmas, which I usually love. I just want to sleep!

Hawkins001 · 16/12/2022 17:33

I think I've got a cold at the moment, runny nose and chesty cough at times and ongoing not so much drained, but tired more than normal at times. No other symptoms

Taylorsversion · 16/12/2022 17:33

We’ve had it for about a week now in our house. My teeth and my eye sockets ache and itch. The coughing has made my ribs feel like I’ve been kicked by a horse. I’m really not loving the idea it goes and then comes back 😭

Hope everyone feels better soon!!
