It seems to be rife! Basically, bad cold / flu like symptoms, chesty cough (not Covid) BUT, it hits you like a freight train for about a week, then you feel better for a few days BUT IT COMES BACK WORSE?

I can’t recall ever feeling this rough, and it’s not just me there are 13 children off school in my child’s class with the same thing, and the parents in the group chat saying similar although some lucky ducks have dodged it.

Wondering if this is happening everywhere or just in our wee village?

We have all had a bad cold before but the fact it goes and comes back is weird, it’s really dragging on now I’m into the third week of it.

Yabu - no such thing happening near us
Yanbu - it’s everywhere and I’m sick of it now

I’m on week 3 with it. My nose is so blocked I now have ear infections in both ears!
Other than the painful ears I still have the cough and a blocked up nose but other that am feeling better

ditherydotty · 16/12/2022 16:28

My dad has it, gets bit better then comes back, his stomach is really sore from coughing, doctors prescribed steroids and antibiotics but it's still not clearing.

Is it flu?

Rubblefish · 16/12/2022 16:28

I have it, the cough is awful, I have been off work since Tuesday and I don't feel any better. I have been lying on the sofa all week feeling sorry for myself.

H1Drangea · 16/12/2022 16:26

Yes , I’ve had it for 8 days , DH started a couple of days after me
awful cough , rattly chest , I’ve blown my nose so much I have flaky skin round it
I still feel like crap , a bit dizzy every now and then , head feels heavy
My local Tesco had sold out of lemsip yesterday

It’s so funny you say that because I hadn’t really thought about it but I had to try three different places yesterday to find lemsip, Sainsbury’s and boots had nothing not even their own brand but I found it in marks and spencer of all places.

I started with this about 3 weeks ago, felt truly awful for about 2 weeks and an improvement this week although I still have a very annoying cough and my chest still feels quite rattly. Whatever bug it is, DP & I both felt worse with this than with covid. Horrible thing.

ConfusedmumUC · 16/12/2022 16:30

Does anyone want to take a stab at what this is? I’m inclined to say it’s the usual winter flu but it just feels so much more rotten than I recall.

Then again we were all social distancing and masking during the height of the pandemic im wondering have our immune systems just not been kept in check and had an easy ride of it for so long that now what we would usually handle in a week is wiping us out?

Im no doctor, so no idea if that’s actually a thing or even possible 🤣

Yes, started from Dd, 4 at the end of October and has sort of come and gone since then, cough never really gone. 15 kids off in her class this week and Dd coming home some days v tired and with a temp and then ok ish the next day 🤷🏻‍♀️So weird…a lot of the symptoms felt covid like to me.
We’re not in the U.K. either, another country in Europe, seems to be everywhere

AllanyonetalksaboutisHandM · 16/12/2022 16:32

@ConfusedmumUC Doesn't feel like normal flu at all

No, you’re right it really doesn’t. Urgh, it’s horrid for everyone that has it and it just drags and drags 😩

@ConfusedmumUC i don’t think it’s flu ( partly because I’ve had the flu jab ,) I had actual flu the Christmas of 1999 & Millennium eve and I wasn’t better until March !
I think it’s just a really bad cold virus

stargirl1701 · 16/12/2022 16:35

Yup. I'm into the third week.

Yes! I have just had to have a few days off work as it hit me like a freight train. I just ached all over and couldn’t eat anything as I would just wretch. It started as a cold a couple of weeks ago and I just had a series of mild symptoms one after the other and then suddenly it hit with full force. Still getting over it. Used so many tissues!

HomeEdRocks18 · 16/12/2022 16:38

Yanbu - I've got it too but with the added bonus of super sore throat with swollen lymph nodes.

CoffeeBoy · 16/12/2022 16:38

Dd has it. It’s going round work at a rate of knots. A guy at work says his mate works in a vaccine hub and reckons the latest strain of covid isn’t showing up on LFTs. No idea if that’s true or not and I guess most people aren’t testing.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 16/12/2022 16:39

Yes I have all of this including sensitive teeth, so weird. Two days in bed feeling a bit better today.
interesting that it comes back- I was poorly a week previously, then fine for about four days, then this bug which was much worse, hadn’t occurred to me it could be the same thing.
we all tested for Covid, negative, my friend and her DP same.
then he tested again at work (NHS) as they said that any tests older than a few months may not pick up this newer Covid variant- instant positive!

postcardpuffin · 16/12/2022 16:39

It has more of the symptoms of a head cold than classic flu but is more hard-hitting than an ordinary cold; but there are lots of viruses that are in between the two - some paraflus are pretty nasty and long-lasting, for example. I’d hazard a guess that it’s some kind of paraflu or RSV type virus. I’ve tested negative for Covid a few times, so I don’t think it’s that.

No way to know unless you get swabbed! A relative of mine is immunosuppressed and when she gets anything they do swab it and tell her what it is, eg. paraflu, flu A, rhinovirus, etc.! Fascinating!

Twizbe · 16/12/2022 16:40

I'm just coming out the other side of it.

It was horrific. I've never been so sick in my life.

SophieJo · 16/12/2022 16:40

I had it for nearly 3 weeks. Started with a headache which went then a horrendous cold and cough which left me aching all over. At night I was breathless, aching and ended up with antibiotics as could not shift the cough.
I have had flu jab and all the covid ones. Had covid but didn’t feel as bad as I did with this virus.

AllanyonetalksaboutisHandM · 16/12/2022 16:41

I feel like it’s a type/strain of covid, just feels odd. I had long covid until Jan of this year, then got covid again in May, but wasn’t tooo bad, had some of my long covid symptoms afterwards but thankfully much less severe and I’ve had similar this time. Just the way it completely wiped us out…having said that, I never had a proper cough the first two times, but this time, the cough is pretty horrendous

WishMalteasersMadeAdventCalendersAllYear · 16/12/2022 16:41

We're just getting rid of it here, but loads of the children in DDs class have been off with it at some point over the last few weeks. Some came back for a week or so then were off again with it.

PatriciaPattersonGimlin · 16/12/2022 16:41

Starts with a sore throat. Then sinus pain and post nasal drip that turns to mucus you could make tyres with. Then the cough which becomes more productive until you are shipping so much snot you dehydrate and then the chills and sweats but NO aching muscles at any time.

Depression for two days that then lifts and just when you start to feel better it turns to a dry hacking cough instead a productive one.

It can fuck right off now. The only benefit is I have not eaten for about five days and have no desire to eat either.

Whoneedsleep · 16/12/2022 16:42

I’ve just started feeling a little better today (day 11!) I’ve been unable to work at all during it

Please say it’s not going to come back, it’s been horrific!

CheapFoodShits · 16/12/2022 16:42

Yep, DS has been off school with it since Wednesday and I've started with it today. It's been a long time since I felt this rough.

Minfilia · 16/12/2022 16:42

Yes, I’m on day 3 and it’s horrific.

DS is on day 10, other DS is day 8, DD is day 7.

all laid up feeling horrendous.

it must be pretty infectious too because I NEVER get ill!
