It seems to be rife! Basically, bad cold / flu like symptoms, chesty cough (not Covid) BUT, it hits you like a freight train for about a week, then you feel better for a few days BUT IT COMES BACK WORSE?

I can’t recall ever feeling this rough, and it’s not just me there are 13 children off school in my child’s class with the same thing, and the parents in the group chat saying similar although some lucky ducks have dodged it.

Wondering if this is happening everywhere or just in our wee village?

We have all had a bad cold before but the fact it goes and comes back is weird, it’s really dragging on now I’m into the third week of it.

Yabu - no such thing happening near us
Yanbu - it’s everywhere and I’m sick of it now

My Dad has it too (we live together) but he just had two days rough in bed and then the snot! He's has a booster and his flu jab (80) though. I've just martyred myself and had a cupasoup it's like drinking glass.

StopStartStop · 16/12/2022 18:42

dd and dgd have it, and I seem to be coming down with it. I don't want it. I'd like to feel better tomorrow, thanks.

Tigger7654 · 16/12/2022 18:44

I'm on day 14 of it so far, it's bloody awful. I've never had a cold like it ☹️

Iluvchristmasbargains · 16/12/2022 18:47

I had it for nearly 3 weeks, then felt just about well enough to take my mum on a Christmas outing. Big mistake, I must have been pretty run down cos after a clean streak I now have covid! So be warned, don’t go out til you’re fully recovered unless you have to!

Itsokay2020 · 16/12/2022 18:49

Yes, I have it too and am on day 12. Started with a very sudden sore throat, then the cough then the mucus production, which is relentless (and bright yellow). I have just finished a course of Amoxicillin and I have gone downhill again in the last 36 hours. My ribs hurt so much from the coughing, my stomach doesn’t feel right, my skin is so dry - guessing all fluid is being used to drown my lungs (feels like it!), can’t taste or smell anything and feel wretched. My teeth also ached and I felt tearful. Having had ‘proper’ flu and Covid in July 2021 I can’t honestly say it feels like neither, but I am truly fed up with it 😔 I said no to end of term drinks - I am very, very ill, it’s unheard of as I’m normally organising every social event, but this has floored me!

Itsokay2020 · 16/12/2022 18:49

Not neither! Either!!

PriamFarrl · 16/12/2022 18:52

We both came down with it on Saturday, but thought it was just end of term knackeredness. But we were both laid up all day Sunday. It was worse than Covid when I had it before the vaccine.
I was off Monday but felt I could go back in Tuesday. DH went back in yesterday and this morning but then came back home at lunch time.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 16/12/2022 18:14

I feel you @Icequeen01 i had symptoms on Monday, came down with it properly on Tuesday. Pushed myself to work with sneezing/coughing/snot because I had so much to do but gave up this morning and went sick. Coughing so frequently & weeing at same time am contemplating getting incontinence pants 😂😂🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

I'm so pleased it's not just me! I am just thankful I had some towels lying around in my drawers as I'm 61 and it's been a while since I've needed them 🤣

Scoobydoobydoobydooby · 16/12/2022 19:09

I'm so glad you started this thread, I've had this coming up for 2 weeks and keep thinking wtf is this. It's like a mega cold but worse, equivalent of flu and covid. I haven't had body aches though so it's not flu and I've done 2 negative covid tests, had flu jab and booster.

Started with a dreadful sore throat, moving onto the mega snot, sore teeth, loss of sense of taste and smell, felt very cold a lot (I mean I know it's cold, but like 2 layers of thermals and 2 jumpers and I'm still cold) sore ears, extreme tiredness, then felt like I couldn't breathe and having to use an inhaler (not asthmatic.)

Today's new arrival is smelling cigarette smoke? I keep asking dcs if they can smell it but it's just me. Anyone else had this?

One tip which the doctor gave me which has helped is to do a steam inhalation.

iknowhimsowell · 16/12/2022 19:09

I think it is covid, just not showing on tests. Half of the school class has it, my daughter is coughing all night. Three year old and partner started in the last week. I've not had covid yet and not yet got this...

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 16/12/2022 19:09

It hit me properly yesterday. Temp of 39C, coughing continuously, feel completely wiped out, no energy at all and no appetite. So far testing negative for Covid.

HouseofHolbein · 16/12/2022 19:14

Had it since early October. Coughing myself sick on a fairly regular basis. Had one day off work but been in otherwise 😢 mostly because I can't afford to be on sick pay if there is any other option.

Just finishing a course of antibiotics for the chest infection. Think I'm starting to turn a corner but I've thought that before.

polkadotpixie · 16/12/2022 19:27

DS has been poorly all week with what I thought was a cold and got sent home from school on Tuesday for coughing himself sick. He's gone back today but DN has it now too

I've had a sore throat for the past two days and felt a bit nauseous and weak yesterday but I feel better today so hopefully fending it off!

hiredandsqueak · 16/12/2022 19:31

I'm on week four and just starting to feel like I'm recovering. I had symptoms for a week, they eased for about five days and then it was back worse than ever. I've spent the majority of time laying on the sofa wrapped in a blanket, no energy to move or do anything. I don't remember ever feeling so ill for such a prolonged length of time before.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 16/12/2022 19:35

DS and I had it, and we were off work and school for a week.

This was last week.

Im still very tired and coughing and having been all this (the second) week.

DS seems to have just caught another cold.

TruckerBarbie · 16/12/2022 19:44

Our plant manager has been off sick as a dog for a week and he's known for never being ill. I've felt for a few days like my body's trying to fight it off.

Day 16 here and I caved yesterday and got the adult nappies. Sanitary towels just weren't cutting it. I'm not even 40 yet, and this bug has made me wear pull ups!!

I have the pelvic floor of a mouse right now. It's normally fine, not something I struggle with, even during pregnancies, i can happily go trampolining etc. It's just given up.

Ok also property vomited twice today because I tried to tidy the lounge for about 10m. Really hoping the antibiotics I'm on sort this.

QueenBeex · 16/12/2022 20:06

I've just passed my second week with it and still don't feel too good!
My sons been off school for a week with it too but is getting back to himself now, had to have antibiotics to help get over it.

Bicurator · 16/12/2022 20:16

Has anyone else had a sore/swollen throat for weeks?

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 16/12/2022 20:26

Secondsop · 16/12/2022 18:36

I’ve had this all week and am just starting to come out of it so I think I’ve got away lightly unless it comes back, but 100% re it affecting mental health. Also it’s done something hormonal as my period started a few days early.

Yeah my anxiety is awful right now as well

BrewandBiscuit · 16/12/2022 20:28

I’m day 14 today and still feel rubbish. No appetite, no energy, cough that feed like it’s cracking my ribs and terrible incontinence. I’ve had enough and want to feel normal again!

inthedeepshade · 16/12/2022 20:35

Yeahhh I've had if. I ended up on antibiotics which cleared it up, but felt like shit for nearly 3 weeks.

Supernothing22 · 16/12/2022 20:42

I started with the normal cold mid October, then lost my voice and have basically had face/sinus pain everyday since.

Feel totally wiped out and I'm a single parent with very very little support so I've been dragging myself up to do stuff.

I came home from work today before lunch because I couldnt sit there again for another day with a headache and totally blocked sinuses, oh and the hip pain is terrible.

Can't wait for my 10 year old to go to bed so I can.

MoirasSaggyBundles · 16/12/2022 21:01

Today's new arrival is smelling cigarette smoke? I keep asking dcs if they can smell it but it's just me. Anyone else had this?

Yes, definitely smelt a smoke smell - not cigarettes necessarily, but something burning.

Has anyone else had a sore/swollen throat for weeks?

Yes! Like razor blades. Even though all the other awful symptoms have finally begun to ease off (after 11 days), my throat is still as bad as ever.

Scoobydoobydoobydooby · 16/12/2022 21:10

Thanks MoirasSaggyBundles I've still got the sore throat as well! it's amazing how long it lasts. Also, very odd to still be blowing my nose nearly 2 weeks in.

I also had nausea for a few days, that's mostly gone now.
