to believe H&M because of defamation laws?

I've watched the full series on Harry and Meghan.
A few things have struck me.
The most important thing is that there are defamation laws in England. Damage to your reputation is grounds for pursuing such a case. That no such case has yet been initiated by William or Kate, suggests that there is truth in Harry and Meghan's version of events.
Meghan comes across as very vulnerable but very real. She also comes across as very much in love still; as does Harry.
I admire Harry for his decision to leave. I do buy his logic; if the tax payer had even 1% of a contribution to their lives financially, the media could then claim a public interest.
Harry comes across as incredibly intelligent. He has always been touted as the dumb one. He seems to be very much more than some dumb guy.
He adores Meghan and that seems to be reciprocated. She gave him an out.

Harry is very much is mother's son. Diana would have supported Meghan I think. I think they were kindred spirits (Diana and Harry) in a way. Pawns in the game where the king and queen reign...

I too admire Harry for leaving if that's what he really wanted. I think people in the UK (and the press) would have been supportive if he wanted to leave public life and just enjoy his family. The tabloid press are horrendous, we all know that and they're right to call out the racism, of course.
But enough already, everyone's mean and you're hard done by, we get it.
I'm not sure what they're hoping to achieve, we all know 'their truth'....now what?
With every media appearance and interview they are backing themselves (and their children) further into a corner but they just don't seem to see it. The lack of self awareness is staggering.

Do you mean for example like Jason Knauff confirming she perjured herself and bullied staff? Yes, I DO believe them.

Yes this. The Queen had to take Meghan aside and chide her for treating Palace staff like dirt on her shoes.

Goodadvice1980 · 16/12/2022 07:11

They are a pair of whiny, ungrateful & over-indulged narcs who probably caused the late Queen a great deal of upset in her final years.

Well if H&M wanted to go and get a job and live humbly elsewhere that would be fine. But they're not. They go around speaking on subjects they know little about and selling their personal lives to the highest bidder. Why not just go and work hard do something of value and learn from ordinary people who have never had any privilege or insulation in life.

Whinging and victimhood is not a good look. Hopefully they will move on and do something more worthwhile now that is more worthy of respect - humility and hard work. Maybe just work full time for a charity. You think they will? No me neither. Living in a pityfest isn't a good environment to bring up childre either.

How many hours do you spend with your charity?

Families fall out, but that doesn’t mean it needs to be shouted from the rooftops. Whatever has happened you have to question what exactly Harry and Megan are hoping to gain by airing their dirty laundry in public.

PortiasBiscuit · 16/12/2022 07:14

Meghan, is that you?

CatchYouOnTheFlippetyFlop · 16/12/2022 07:15

YANBU OP, but there are so many people on here that so very passionately hate them, is fucking weird.

I mean the level of vitriol is unprecedented and just shows why Meghan wanted to fuck off to another country.

They never ever said they didn't want the limelight. They just wanted out of the toxic, outdated, fucked up royal family.

Onnabugeisha · 16/12/2022 07:15

Shejustwentthere · 16/12/2022 07:10

Meghan speaks kindly of Charles (her wedding and him agreeing to walk her up the aisle) and of the one day she spent with the Queen.
Harry also speaks fondly of Charles.

Their issue appears to be with the 'institution' rather than with the individuals.

I think if Harry were the heir to the throne, they’d be singing a different tune.
They are accusing William and Kate of “jealousy” but I’ve found most toxic types accuse others of exactly what they feel and are doing. Harry & Meghan are jealous they’re not next in line. That their daughter will never be the Princess Royale, but her cousin will be. They want to tear it down because they can’t “win” at succession.

Can an institution claim defamation? Because that was the reason you believed them, according to the OP.

Divebar2021 · 16/12/2022 07:20

so OP you’ve watched the documentary ( good media) and have reached all these conclusions about Harry’s similarity to Diana etc and your sources are legitimate and honest but the people who disagree are getting their information from the bad media and must therefore be wrong ? You’ve invented a whole scenario and populated it with characters from your own fantasy. Half the people who could speak up about any of this are connected to the Royal Family. ( or have signed NDAs) It’s one thing to sue a newspaper but quite another thing to go directly against you son / brother so I wouldn’t expect the RF to take legal action. I notice that Meghan has never sued Tom Bower for his book Revenge.. why do you think that is?

cocktailclub · 16/12/2022 07:22

To me it looks as if she's acting. However I don't doubt it's a very messed up family and I understand why they might want to get out.
My guess would be that the truth lies somewhere in the middle between H&M version of events and the rest of the family, and also it is about individual perceptions so they could all be telling the truth about their experiences.
Overall though I detest the royal family. They are privileged through birth alone not talent and people like Andrew make me angry. The whole lot of them should move to California

ZeViteVitchofCwismas · 16/12/2022 07:22

I'm not sure what family they had fo begin with.
The children in royal family, Beatrix and Eugene, their own dad has done extensive damage to royals, and on Megan side her dad relatives are clearly very mentally unwell to the point she couldn't look after her own child.
Non of the Ragland's have spoken out?
I suspect Megan's mum is absolutely seething about what her dad did.
Whatever anyone thinks about Megan' you can't deny she as a person seems much freeer and dynamic.
Kate does well but she's very stiff, the pained expression throughout COVID, that " concern '. I'm sure she is but she simply isn't as relatable as Megan.

ZeViteVitchofCwismas · 16/12/2022 07:23

And I find Harry more relatable than William.

You do if you're sick of keeping quiet. I'm a bit Meghan. I don't dance on ceremony, I abhor niceties and I can't keep my mouth shut in the face of lies or injustice. It's very apparent to me that her being stifled was terribly difficult for her as a woman. It would be for me too!
Woe betide the man who dates me and expects me to obey some sort of family traditions, in contradiction of who I am fundamentally, when I meet his family! That would the end of that relationship.

Yes, you are very like Megan …. a few posts in and it’s suddenly all about you.

Straight from the Markle playbook

girlmom21 · 16/12/2022 06:23

They're just destroying every family link they had. The palace haven't responded to anything because they're above that - not because it's untrue.

This.

Pretty low to turn on your family for financial gain.

I wouldn't say that in real life. If anyone said to me 'I'm a big Meghan' I'd internally mark them down as somewhat of a twat

WeWereInParis · 16/12/2022 07:27

That no such case has yet been initiated by William or Kate, suggests that there is truth in Harry and Meghan's version of events.

I think that even if every single word they spoke in the documentary was a lie, the RF would not sue. I think it would take a seriously egregious lie to get them to go down that route, so I disagree with your reasoning. Also, even if you think they would sue, the last three episodes came out yesterday, so it's a bit soon to be saying "they've not sued, it must be true!"

Which isn't to say I think they're lying - I just disagree with your logic here.

Harry comes across as incredibly intelligent

Strange, I thought he came across like a brainwashed, self-obsessed, grandiose twat who takes himself far too seriously.

You realise that England is only a part of the country though? The largest part, but there’s the ret of us here too.

i don’t blame them for leaving, but they come across as somewhat hypocritical.

Thing is, this is exactly what the series is designed to have you think. You need to read between the lines a bit maybe. The main thing to bear in mind is that you are not a fly on the wall - all these touching moments have been filmed either by them as selfies, or by a cameraperson in the room with them. Uno

Imthegingerbreadwoman · 16/12/2022 07:31

Agree with all of this! I don't hate them but I think in this sense you either put up and shut up or move along quietly. Make a decision and stick to it and go about a quiet life.

That, she doesn't understand British culture or tradition. And that's fine. But just walk away and stay quiet. Because the majority of brits will not back her. She wasn't married long before all this happened and if she is comparing herself to Diana, Diana was married for quite a while and had other issues like eating disorders etc. It was a different time and she didn't have any family support apart from her brother, I believe? Meghan has her mum and Harry beside her. She really didn't go through much. I'm not saying she shouldn't have gone through it. But it's not netflix documentary material.

We all know racism happens. And it is wrong. I have been a victim of it. Bit its well known it has happened in the Palace before. Its not the shocking revelation she was hoping for. I'm looking at you Philip! And I don't think Kate and William are racist to be honest. I could be wrong. Bust just can't see it
