Can’t stop crying - our cat has been killed just before Christmas

Not that there is any good time to be hit by a car and lay overnight on the freezing road but this morning I got a call telling me my cat had been killed on the road I live on and someone was kind enough to pick her up and take her to the vet who scanned her and call me ..

she was 18 months old. I got to speak to the lady who found her and she informed me she literally found her dead outside my house on the road and now I’m haunted she nearly made it home .

I’ve cried on and off the whole day. Can’t bear to be in the house .

we collected her from the vets this morning and she’s now buried in the back garden … so sad to see my little boy standing there talking to her after school but something so comforting about having her home.

When I hear cars going by the house I keep thinking about the fact she as hit by one on this very road and it’s so sad, I don’t regret Letting her be a outdoor animal it’s my own belief cats should not be kept as indoor pets their whole life .

I wish I wish I wish she had got more cat years than she did but I don’t regret having her even for just a short time .

I’m so sorry, OP. She looks so beautiful, you must be devastated.

I’ve been there many years ago, when I was a teenager, my family lost 2 cats on the road within 2 months of each other. One was 6 years old and my younger DSis’s beloved companion, the other was only 7 months old.

We lived by a very busy road, so it was sadly a tragedy waiting to happen.

So sorry OP. we lost a cat by the road, he had been missing a few days and I found him tucked up under some bushes, he was already gone. I’m just relieved I found out what happened to him, the not knowing was awful.

it hurts now, but soon you will think of her and they will be happy memories of all her silly little ways

So so sorry for your losses,as well as all the others on here. I have had cats run over and I now do not let my current (17 year old ) cat out any more. I do feel guilty, but at least she is safe💐💐💐

I’m so sorry for your loss . We lost our little one on Sept 15 . She was found opposite our house and was only 18 months too . X

Oh my goodness, what a beautiful cat. I'm so sorry for you and your family!

When I was 9 years old, my 6m old kitten was hit by a car (4 days before christmas) and 20 years later, I still remember holding his body and crying my eyes out.

A kind gentleman scooped him up and placed him on some grass before knocking on all of the doors to find out who he belonged to.

We buried him in his favourite blanket with the Christmas stocking I had got for him. He was my best friend, I wouldn't even go to bed without him so it was really difficult.

I’m sorry to hear this :-( they’re part of the family and loss is always so hard. I don’t know if anyone has mentioned but some charities now offer free support for this. Know pet charities Blue Cross and I think cats protection too have people you can talk to on email or phone or chat online with if needed. Really thoughtful service for people who have lost a pet or whose pet is missing 💐

I'm so sorry OP. She was absolutely gorgeous. We lost our dog at only four and a half very suddenly in early November (on my birthday, no less....). He became extremely ill very quickly and deteriorated rapidly overnight. We rushed him back into the vets in the early hours and he pretty much died in my husband's arms.

I know the pain is absolutely indescribable - I still cry every day and anything sets me off. I just can't believe how young he was. One thing that really comforted me was something my friend said - animals don't know how long they're meant to live, and all they know is how great their lives were and how much they were loved, and loved you in return. Thinking of you.

I’m So sorry for your loss. I can still remember sobbing my heart out when my hamster passed away.
