Can’t stop crying - our cat has been killed just before Christmas

Not that there is any good time to be hit by a car and lay overnight on the freezing road but this morning I got a call telling me my cat had been killed on the road I live on and someone was kind enough to pick her up and take her to the vet who scanned her and call me ..

she was 18 months old. I got to speak to the lady who found her and she informed me she literally found her dead outside my house on the road and now I’m haunted she nearly made it home .

I’ve cried on and off the whole day. Can’t bear to be in the house .

Afaik most europe let's cats out and roam as well. We did. The issues here are density ime.

Fucking hell I am so sorry. She is completely gorgeous and I’m so glad you had her, even if for such a short time.

I lost my old silly spaniel just before Christmas a few years ago and it’s a pain so sharp it’s hard to deal with. People expect you to be fine days later, and you absolutely don’t have to be.

I got a kitten June 1996 and on 22nd Dec (FILs 50th birthday) he was run over and killed. I was heartbroken and catering for the big birthday party! You are not being unreasonable, she was beautiful. I'm so sorry 😞 xx

Gorgeous cat. I'm so sorry. This would break my heart too. Try to remember how loved they were and what a good life you gave them.

This is terrible I’m so sorry it’s devastating I had my cat put to sleep two weeks ago he was 17 they really do become a family member. She’s beautiful ❤️

I know its not what you want to hear but I would take comfort in the fact that you found out what had happened, she was cared for by the lady who found her and she wasn't missing. The not knowing is torturous.

so very sorry to see your post. She's beautiful. I can't imagine how it must feel. Take the time to grieve. I'm just glad that there was someone kind who found her and took her to the vets. My good friend's lovely cat was hit by a car last week and it is so hard xx

@Brighton5555 , I lost DCat in similar circumstances a few months ago. His body was still warm when a neighbour found him. He was my best friend, always there for me. I blamed myself for having not called him in earlier.
After a few days I got a kitten. There was much more than a cat-shaped hole in my life, but I thought a new cat would at least give me something to distract me.
Against my better judgement, I drove a heck of a long way to buy a kitten that vaguely resembled DCat.
DKitten is not DCat and never will be - she's not a perfect lookalike and she's nowhere near as needy or vocal but she's fun and warm and she's going to be an indoor cat, if I can.
I still miss DCat terribly but DKitten is wonderful.

similar happened to me however the man who hit her knocked on the door and was so so upset and gave me a hug poor madison she was a lovely cat my sons girl and he cried himself to sleep for some time afterwards

I’m so, so sorry. What an absolutely beautiful little cat. I’m sure her life was happy even though it was too short, and she knew she was loved.
