I can’t remember and need to make this year, what are the basics please?

MolliciousIntent · 13/12/2022 20:08

A joint of meat of your choice, roast potatoes, carrots, parsnips, greens and gravy.

KillerRobotCompetition · 13/12/2022 20:10

All the above plus Sprouts, pigs in blankets, yourkshire pud (yes, even if it’s not with beef!) and stuffing.

Judelawissohandsome · 13/12/2022 20:10

Is it brocolli, cauliflower, Yorkshire puddings etc or is that more of a Sunday roast…oh and sprouts yes?

Turkey, roast potatoes, roast parsnips, carrots (roasted), cauliflour cheese, sprouts, gravy, stuffing, broccoli, pigs in blankets, leeks(?) yorkshire puddings (?), red cabbage(?)...feel like I'm forgetting something obvious!

illiterato · 13/12/2022 20:11

wharever you like really but I do turkey, stuffing, pigs in blankets, Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, roasted carrots and parsnips, peas and leeks and sprouts. Gravy and cranberry. Also doing a porcetta and dauphinois this year as got a crowd coming.

holierthanthou73 · 13/12/2022 20:11

petitdonkey · 13/12/2022 20:12

illiterato · 13/12/2022 20:13

this Thread is making me massively hungry.

thetaleunfolds · 13/12/2022 20:14

Mine is

  • Beef or turkey
  • Roast potatoes
  • honey glazed parsnips
  • Carrots & peas
  • pigs in blankets
  • yorkshire puds
  • stuffing
  • gravy

I'm also known to throw together a little mashed potato because the rest of my family are dead against it on Christmas Day (but not on a regular roast!)

ActionThisDay · 13/12/2022 20:14

Ours is

turkey
pigs in blankets
stuffing
cranberry
bread sauce
gravy
sprouts
roast potatoes
roast parsnips
peas
carrots
red cabbage

Christmas pudding

Cheese

No ham (although I’ll do a ham to
eat at other meals), no YPs (only with beef), no multiple types of potatoes.

5128gap · 13/12/2022 20:14

Usually it's turkey with stuffing and little bacon wrapped cocktail sausages and roast potatoes. Those are the basics people expect. And gravy. Cranberry sauce is often there too. Sprouts are traditional but few people really like them unless you zoosh them up with bits of bacon and chestnut (big hassle) so go with your veg of choice. Peas tend to appear a lot, as do carrots.

Justcallmebebes · 13/12/2022 20:15

Don't forget ppbread sauce or cranberry sauce or both. Its basically just a fancy roast with pigs in blankets, roasted parsnips sprouts and crackers

notanothertakeaway · 13/12/2022 20:15

What's your AIBU?

Meat, Yorkshire pudding, gravy, veg

Not cast in stone. Can be as simple or complicated as you wish

Oysterbabe · 13/12/2022 20:16

Cauliflower cheese.
I will die on this hill.

Thinkbiglittleone · 13/12/2022 20:18
