Rice, chicken, Coleslaw, plantain 😋

WaddleAway · 14/12/2022 12:48

We are having Yorkshire puddings as we are having beef, and you can’t have beef without Yorkshire puddings!

TangledWebofMincemeatDeception · 14/12/2022 12:52

@WaddleAway same here! We don’t have it with our usual Christmas roasts. We also don’t have cauliflower cheese. But with roast beef, why not!

CrownTheTurkey · 14/12/2022 12:54

Meat, veg, gravy.
Nothing else required.

Have you got room for one more at your place?

Absolutely 😁

petitdonkey · 14/12/2022 21:22

@dropthevipers - I hadn’t even realised they were strange but @Igglepiggleslittletoe , my parents are Irish so you nailed it!!

to be clear, ham means gammon and croquettes are the only thing I buy in frozen!! Isn’t it funny how some traditions stick?!!

I agree! Just No.
I love a yorkshire but it is Not part of turkey christmas dinner.

Veg can vary but needs spouts, stuffing, pigs on blankets, bread sauce and cranberry sauce.

I had a Turkey dinner at ‘Roast’ in London last week. It included a yorkshire…

Being the child of an Englishman and a Greek woman, we have a mashup on Christmas day-stuffed turkey, roast potatoes,Yorkshire puddings and steamed broccoli and cauliflower, then a couple of salads, Greek, fancy and macaroni for my dd, then pastitsio and dolmades. Dessert will be small Xmas pudding for the two of us that eat it, chocolate cake, and crepe cake with cream and strawberries as requested by my daughter

Dotjones · 15/12/2022 10:56

Turkey
Roast Potatoes
Carrots
Brussels
Parsnips
Stuffing (chestnut if you can get it, sage & onion)
Sausagemeat (cocktail sausages if you prefer)
Bacon
Gravy
Bread sauce
Cranberry sauce/redcurrant jelly

It's acceptable to use chicken in place of turkey. You're allowed to add other meats in addition to the turkey, some people like ham or beef as well. Yorkshire pudding? I don't but it's great so why not.

You must have roast potatoes. You're allowed other forms of potato too, eg mashed, but these must be served alongside roast potatoes.

The critical things are the turkey (or at a push chicken), roast potatoes and gravy. Without these it cannot be considered a Christmas dinner, it's just a dinner that you happen to be eating at Christmas.
