cranberry sauce
gravy

Not going to lie, what is the point of this thread?! How on earth can you forget what goes in a Christmas dinner - surely it’s whatever elements your family likes to eat?!

Here, it’s chicken (not enough people to warrant a turkey), roast potatoes, stuffing, Yorkshire pudding, parsnips, Brussels and carrots. And lots of thick gravy.

Cranberry sauce, bread sauce, cauliflower cheese and mashed potatoes would not even be entertained as no-one likes them.

The favourite is lunch the next day - lightly toasted bread, spread with a bit of mayo, with remnants of most of the above sandwiched in between. Heaven!

Furries · 14/12/2022 02:00

I can’t believe I forgot the pigs in blankets.

Forgottenmypasswordagain · 14/12/2022 02:08

We are having a prime rib, potatoes, sprouts, carrots, peas, gravy and rolls. Prefer yorkshires to rolls but I'll decide on the day.

sashh · 14/12/2022 02:39

Basically a Sunday roast and then add some extra veg and pigs in blankets.

And fancy the veg up so don't put turnips on, mash them with cream and crispy bacon.

Roast carrots and parsnips in honey.

Have a trip to your local carvery and see what they are doing.

SomethingOriginal2 · 14/12/2022 04:35

I'm doing
Maple cola gammon
Pigs in blankets
Stuffing
Roast tatties
Mash tatties
Roast parsnips
Roast carrots
Roast Brussels sprouts
Yorkshire puds
Gravy
I ussually do brocoli and cauliflower cheese but I cba. I boil the gammon in cola then put in a huge roasting tin with the maple syrum and put the carrots and sprouts in the bottom so they cook in the juices.

Judelawissohandsome · 13/12/2022 20:10

Is it brocolli, cauliflower, Yorkshire puddings etc or is that more of a Sunday roast…oh and sprouts yes?

It's basically a Sunday roast with pigs in blankets 😅 (and optional sprouts).

I wouldn't have a yorkshire but some people do.

I'd have cauliflower cheese rather than cauliflower (would with a Sunday roast too!)

But really a Christmas dinner is whatever you/ your family fancy and like the most. Ask 100 people what they'd have and you'll get 100 slightly different answers.

Strange thread. What are you trawling for OP?

DilemmaDelilah · 14/12/2022 06:35

Ours is:

roast potatoes
roast parsnips
Brussels sprouts
one or two other veg
chestnut stuffing
cranberry sauce
bread sauce
lots and lots of gravy
extra bacon from the top of the turkey
AND - if my daughters family are coming, a duck because they're not keen on turkey

Have you got room for one more at your place?

Tuilpmouse · 14/12/2022 11:29

ShitMumsClub · 13/12/2022 20:24

How am I only just hearing about bread sauce? How do you eat that with gravy?

It's stodgy, not a liquid, so it doesn't run together with the gravy.

Tuilpmouse · 14/12/2022 11:31

@Neverknowinglysensible

Cauliflower Cheese is an abomination, and peas also have no place on a roast dinner…

You're wrong... steamed cauliflower is an abomination and doesn't have its place anyway, let alone in a Christmas dinner!

Tuilpmouse · 14/12/2022 11:33

UrsulaPandress · 13/12/2022 20:54

Mashed potatoes.

Why on Earth does no one else have mash???

Because they're a bit shit compared to roast potatoes...

Tuilpmouse · 14/12/2022 11:34

Prunes with bacon wrapped round them

Interesting!

Tuilpmouse · 14/12/2022 11:36

Probably a lazy Daily Mail journo wanting a story on what makes a Christmas dinner these days....

Cottagecheeseisnotcheese · 14/12/2022 11:36

What I do
generally no starters
I would do roast turkey with stuffing and pigs in blankets
roast potatoes and parsnips ( maybe carrots too)
brussels sprouts red cabbage
gravy cranberry sauce ( maybe bread sauce)
followed by Christmas pudding with custand and brandy butter

OoooohMatron · 14/12/2022 11:41

Hoolihan · 13/12/2022 20:25

MASH has no place in a Xmas dinner or indeed any roast. But it's not as bad as ratatouille, that's just insane.

We usually have:

Turkey
Stuffing
P-i-B
Roast pots
Roast parsnips
Roast carrots
Sprouts
Red cabbage
Gravy
Bread sauce (best bit)

Followed by:

Xmas pudding & cream
Selection box in front of the telly
Cheese

I don't like mash but DH 10 is a weirdo who doesn't like roast potatoes so I always buy a ready made one for him as I cba making it with all the other stuff on Christmas day!

OoooohMatron · 14/12/2022 11:41

*DS 10, not DH!

Luncheonmeatsandwich · 13/12/2022 20:17

What's with all the Yorkshire puddings?!!!!!

I agree! Just No.
I love a yorkshire but it is Not part of turkey christmas dinner.

Veg can vary but needs spouts, stuffing, pigs on blankets, bread sauce and cranberry sauce.
