Oh please. Yorkshire puddings go with EVERYTHING.

Especially when they are stuffed with all the stuff from xmas dinner. I spoon in mash or chopped roasties, chopped sprouts, slice of ham, stuffing slice of turkey and then gravy smothering it.

Fusciainertia · 13/12/2022 20:20

Spaghetti Bolognese and garlic bread

Thatsshallot1967 · 13/12/2022 20:20

Luncheonmeatsandwich · 13/12/2022 20:17

What's with all the Yorkshire puddings?!!!!!

And cauliflower cheese?!! Never heard of that in a Christmas lunch.

Autumnnewname · 13/12/2022 20:21

Turkey
Stuffing
Pigs in blankets
Parsnip
Sprouts (loads)
Roast potatoes
Mashed potatoes
Gravy

I've never seen a Christmas dinner with cauliflower cheese. - is that the vegetarian option?

Fufumcgoo · 13/12/2022 20:21

Beef, chicken, sprouts, carrots, peas, cauliflower cheese, Yorkshire puds, roast potatoes and mashed potatoes, pigs in blankets, stuffing and lots and lots of delicious gravy.

pinkceilingchoice · 13/12/2022 20:23

Is bread sauce a "south of England" thing? Never heard of it up here (but not British either)

ShitMumsClub · 13/12/2022 20:24

How am I only just hearing about bread sauce? How do you eat that with gravy?

OceanbreezeSun · 13/12/2022 20:24

Turkey & cranberry sauce, stuffing, honey roasted parsnip & carrots, brussel sprouts, pigs in blankets, roast potatoes & Yorkshire puds, gravy …they are the core things for me in a Christmas dinner.

Then everything else, the ‘extras’ like mash potato, broccoli & cauliflower, other veg of choice.
I mean anything goes really - I know a family who have Mac ‘n’ cheese with their Christmas dinner😆

Spenn · 13/12/2022 20:25

Meat - turkey and gammon
Stuffing
Sausage meat stuffing
Pigs in blankets
Sprouts with bacon and chestnuts
Carrots and swede
Yorkshire pudding
Roast pots
Parsnips
Cranberry
Bread sauce
Gravy

Crackers

Christmas pudding brandy butter and cream

Hoolihan · 13/12/2022 20:25

MASH has no place in a Xmas dinner or indeed any roast. But it's not as bad as ratatouille, that's just insane.

We usually have:

Turkey
Stuffing
P-i-B
Roast pots
Roast parsnips
Roast carrots
Sprouts
Red cabbage
Gravy
Bread sauce (best bit)

Followed by:

Xmas pudding & cream
Selection box in front of the telly
Cheese

SeemsSoUnfair · 13/12/2022 20:26

Expected minimum would be

Turkey
Gravy
Pigs in blankets
Stuffing
Roast potatoes
Sprouts (the best bit! - but if noone likes then broccoli instead)
Carrots
Cranberry Sauce

Very nice but unnecessary addons

Mash
Roast Parsnips 😋
Sausage meat

Never had/or been served occasionally, but I either dont like or are not expected

Bread sauce 🤮
Yorkshire pudding 👍🏼 - love in a roast and never say no, but not Christmassy
Red cabbage 🤔
Leeks 🤔
Peas - imo dont go with Cranberry sauce
Ham - deserves its own top spot on boxing day
Cauliflower cheese - save it for ham

gaggiagirl · 13/12/2022 20:27

Turkey
Beef
Stuffing
Pigs in blankets
Sprouts
Gravy
Carrots
Roast potatoes
Red cabbage because I like it
Cauliflower cheese because DS likes it
Mashed potato for DS2
Mashed swede
Yorkshire puddings

Might also add stuffing wrapped in bacon 🥓

mothertrucking · 13/12/2022 20:28

Turkey
Sausage meat stuffing with chestnuts
Pigs in blankets
Roast potatoes
Honey Roast parsnips & carrots
Sprouts with pancetta
Dauphinois potatoes
Cranberry sauce
Gravy

Yorkshire puddings have no place on a Christmas dinner

Hoolihan · 13/12/2022 20:29

pinkceilingchoice · 13/12/2022 20:23

Whaaaaaat? Bread sauce is basically the whole point of Christmas for me 😂 I make loads extra especially so I can dunk cold roast potatoes in it for tea. YUM. I don't think it's just a southern thing?? But then again I'm southern so maybe not best placed to comment.

berrycakeandcustard · 13/12/2022 20:30

Turkey, ham, cranberry sauce, stuffing, roast potatoes, carrots, parsnips, green veg (green beans, peas or broccoli), gravy. No sprouts or Yorkshire puds in this house.

closingscore · 13/12/2022 20:33

I think it's just a case of doing whatever you fancy.

Mine will be roast turkey, stuffing, pigs in blankets, roast potatoes, honey roasted parsnips/carrots, braised red cabbage, shredded sprouts with bacon and creamed leeks. Plus gravy and cranberry sauce.

Hoolihan · 13/12/2022 20:33

ShitMumsClub · 13/12/2022 20:24

How am I only just hearing about bread sauce? How do you eat that with gravy?

Same way you eat cranberry sauce! On the side or create a sprout barrier between the two.

DappledThings · 13/12/2022 20:34

Judelawissohandsome · 13/12/2022 20:10

Is it brocolli, cauliflower, Yorkshire puddings etc or is that more of a Sunday roast…oh and sprouts yes?

Do you and your guests like those things? If yes than that's what's in there. If they don't then no, maybe find some alternative veg. There aren't rules.

Some people insist on bread sauce (I have got to 43 without ever being offered this and don't really know what it is)
Some include Yorkshire puddings (I'm in the only with beef school so wouldn't personally)
Some expect different types of potatoes. I'm roast only.

It's all just preference.
