Did anyone buy into the Popsy dress hype during covid.

There was a new dress release every Friday at 12:00. Fans of the dress would eagerly wait for noon and then there would be loads of whinging by people who didnt get lucky because the dresses had sold out instantly. Many people complained that the dress was in their checkout basket but got taken out/

The facebook page was fierce. Anyone that dared critise the quality of the fabric was instantly shut down.
Every week it was virtually the same two dress styles but in different fabrics.
I'd forgotten about it until my friend called around last night seeing if I wanted one of her old dresses.

@LlynTegid (in England we did not have a lockdown except for those clinically extremely vulnerable), and am glad I did not.

England didn’t have a lockdown except those who were extremely vulnerable? Why are you rewriting history?
Must have just imagined the lockdown then!

I have a fair few Popsy dresses now obviously, because I am a primary school teacher, it's pretty much uniform at this point. and I love them. Not because of the drpop/hype thing, I find that a bit OTT, but because the pockets are useful, the length is right for me (and it can altered for free if it isn't) and they are comfortable and fit nicely. I only buy one specific style though as I know it suits my shape, and I buy almost exclusively florals/plains because I've realised the 'quirky' prints just aren't me and I don't reach for them.

They are very 'inclusive' and I'm not a fan of the performative fawning over men in dresses, but it's very, very easy to just 'hide all posts' from those individuals... then I never have to see them. I'm very, very GC, but I have to say the concept of boycotting a company just because they don't ban men who wear dresses from shopping with them is beyond GC and straying into 'ignorant prejudice' territory...

Redebs · 27/01/2023 19:24

Some of the prints are neat, but just the idea of a dress made of polyester makes me feel ill

Picklypickles · 27/01/2023 19:41

I like the look of a lot of their dresses but not keen on polyester at all and they also don't do anything in petite lengths so it would all be too long for me.

A big selling point is that they do free alterations. I'm 5'2 and get the midi ones shortened by a few inches.

Yes, they look good. If only they were viscose or cotton

They are not long. I am 5ft 8 and I feel they are well above my knee, which is too short for me, I wear them over leggings only.

ArtVandalay · 28/01/2023 16:00

Just googled. Wow, they are frumpsville.

They look like they would be worn by a Lefty Geography teacher.

I'm curious, what do Geography teachers who vote Tory wear?

Waitwhat23 · 28/01/2023 16:27

I missed the whole hype period - I only became aware of the brand when I admired a dress a colleague was wearing. I like the dresses - they suit me and are good for work. I do avoid the more twee prints though.

TheWelshTart · 28/01/2023 19:33

They look like a cheap version of Seasalt but I can see why primary teachers might like them.

Red corduroys. 🤣

I didn't hear of it during the pandemic restrictions (in England we did not have a lockdown except for those clinically extremely vulnerable), and am glad I did not.

I don't give Mark Zuckerberg my custom or data so perhaps a blessing if this was how bad it got for some.

Er....what planet were you living on? The rest of us were definitely in lockdown !

crapplepay · 01/02/2023 18:52

I've never heard of them, but polyester isn't my thing, so I don't suppose I'm their target market.

crapplepay · 01/02/2023 18:54

I've just Googled them, and there are matching clothes for mummies and daughters. If that weren't <boak> enough, there are patterned dungarees.

youshouldnthaveasked · 01/02/2023 18:57

No, I worked and got to stick to my routine throughout covid.

Must have just imagined the lockdown then!

We had (some) restrictions, not a 'lockdown'.

It's a stupid tabloid expression which somehow became common usage despite us being able to go out when we wanted, buy what we liked assuming the shop was open and generally go about our business in a way that the people in countries with police in their streets checking papers and who weren't permitted to go more than 50m from their door unless it was to the (provably) nearest food shop or pharmacy could only dream of. Or those who were shut in their buildings and not allowed out at all.

Like the idea that only an hour a day was legally allowed for exercise or that you were only allowed to buy staple/basic food at the shops, it's a myth peddled by the gutter press and taken up by twats like Johnson to scare the mouth breathers who buy their papers.

AragornsGirl · 01/02/2023 19:11

I love them, own more than I probably should. But I couldn’t care less what anyone else thinks, life’s too short and opinions are like ar*eholes…
The group can be a bit weird. Some people get really obsessive and angry if they don’t like the style a dress comes in, and there’s a lot of oversharing of non dress related things!

QuicheQuoche · 01/02/2023 19:25

The men who post loads of photos in different tights and everyone else falls over themselves gushing about how fab their ladylike legs are make me 🙄
I think the men get off on women telling them how beautiful they look whilst completely ignoring the 5 o’clock shadow.

WTAF?

There are some weird people around.

I always think this! There are a lot of transgender posters, fine but the one who just posts pictures of mostly legs makes me feel it's a bit dodgy

Late to the thread I know but someone at work has just discovered Popsy and was talking about the FB groups, so I had a nosy.

What I can’t fathom is how so many people have them to sell, either new or worn once. Is this due to the Friday buying frenzy? They are charging almost the same as new from the shop.

OlleOskiFelle · 03/05/2023 14:09

The FB group is incredibly weird, I only joined because told me is was horrifyingly fascinating
One word, Underpops, just no.

Curseofthenation · 03/05/2023 14:39

They look like a poor quality version of Joanie dresses...

EuphemiaLives · 03/05/2023 14:44

It's all very bizarre. Folk buying dresses they know are the wrong size because they're caught up in the Friday frenzy and then selling them a couple of days later. Endless 'Look at me, I'm so quirky and original' posts and seemingly a complete failure to see that they've all adopted an instantly recognisable uniform. Sharing their child's private medical details, presumably without their consent. Trigger warnings about wobbly teeth...
