I feel terrible, I’m coughing so hard that I’m weeing, I feel like my head is going to explode and it’s making me retch! Is there anything that works to calm it down?! I’m at my wits end

Me! I feel like when I take a breath in all the moisture leaves my mouth and I cough like a maniac. Driving myself absolutely potty

Ontobetterthings · 08/12/2022 00:35

Yeah same here. Been ill for over a week with it 😫

TheChosenTwo · 08/12/2022 00:40

Me! It’s grim and, apologies from my absolute oversharing in a disgusting way but I’m now coughing up solid chunks of phlegm, not even soft, but pretty firm and congealed 🤮
It’s vile. Would say it’s worse when lying down and going to sleep but it’s just rough permanently. And someone near the beginning of this thread mentioned a ragged feeling throat, that’s exactly what this feels like 😭

notangelinajolie · 08/12/2022 00:50

DD has it. She said it’s like something is vibrating inside her chest. I suspect it’s now a chest infection. She rang GP this morning but the earliest appointment was 10am tomorrow morning. She has taken it. Her cough is relentless and she looked dreadful when I called round with Cocodamol.

Usernamesarenoteasy · 08/12/2022 03:46

I've had it since Sunday. Was very shocked when I coughed and wet myself yesterday!

My face/ears/throat/chest are so sore.

I'm hot, then cold and can't sleep.
I really hope this doesn't last for a month!

Wheresmybiscuit3 · 08/12/2022 03:58

What gets me is that it feels like the cough settles… then it comes back full force like
its mocking me.

I feel slightly heartened though that after the nebuliser last night and two doses of antibiotics my peak flows gone from 200
to just below 350… so something is obviously working because I can tell you I’ve never suffered breathing like this in my life.

my antibiotics look like horse tranquillisers though. They are massive and bright radioactive yellow.

Wheresmybiscuit3 · 08/12/2022 03:59

^^ but yes I am also over wetting myself whenever I cough.

Wombatbum · 08/12/2022 08:46

Woke up feeling worse. Touch wood, haven’t had a massive coughing fit yet but feel very warm, eyeballs are aching, very shaky when I stand up. Rang in sick. Feel guilty for that! I’m meant to be going to see Six the musical with my daughter next Friday and I’m worried I’ll not be able to go - it was her birthday present! 😢

Big hugs to everyone suffering. I’ve been taking cocodamol, not sure whether it’s helping to be honest.

vix3rd · 08/12/2022 09:07

Yup - I'm on week 3

Am currently using Tena lady & feeling like I'm 72.

I find that when it's really bad a Halls soother in the side of my cheek when in bed really helps. I know it's dangerous but I also know that I sleep with my teeth shut & the sweetie hardly ever moves. It really does help me get some sleep.

MrsK89 · 08/12/2022 09:37

I've had this for around 4 weeks so I feel your pain.
Chop some garlic and swallow with spoon of honey just before bed.
Yeh it stinks but got rid of the tickly chest and has helped my cough around 80%
Ginger and lemon tea eased my symptoms when i was at my worst aswel

Confrontayshunme · 08/12/2022 09:42

I haven't RTFT, but pholcodine linctus has really helped my cough the last few days.

colouringindoors · 08/12/2022 09:47

Sympathies all I have similar. It's horrible and exhausting.

What's helped me - loads of fluids

Every hour very dilute hot orange squash (ideally with sugar in not sweeteners) with a large spoon honey disolved in it - calms throat.

At night I take a cocodamol - codeine is a cough suppressant- so i get some sleep

1g vitamin c with zinc
www.hollandandbarrett.com/shop/product/holland-barrett-high-strength-effervescent-vit-c-zinc-orange-flavour-tablets-6100156142 these are good

No alcohol 😔

Galvanised by other stories I went to the doctor yesterday and got 6 days of antibiotics and the improvement is already immense. Thank you.

makingmiracles · 10/12/2022 10:33

Get some day nurse, it really helps stop the constant coughing! Don’t suffer!

makingmiracles · 10/12/2022 10:35

I’ve also had it, coming on 4 weeks now, also coughing up huge congealed chunks of phlegm. The night and day nurse are game changers imo.

PAFMO · 10/12/2022 10:36

My DD at uni has the same. Been going on for over a month. GP says "coughs after cold/flu/Covid are perfectly normal and can last up to 6-8 weeks".
Sympathies to all!

That's good. My usually brilliant GP practice is currently utterly overwhelmed and it's almost impossible to get an appt. I think I might resort to a private GP soon, seriously fed up.

Gingernaut · 10/12/2022 10:44

I wear a mask in shops, buses and my place of work and I've acquired this stupid coughing cold

Inhaling air tickles my throat and makes me cough - a weird, wheezy and chesty cough. Blocked nose too.

So far, I've done three Covid LFTs and no, it doesn't appear to be Covid.

Really fed up.

Kobrakid · 10/12/2022 11:03

I had covid six weeks ago and rang the doctors this week. Been given an inhaler which is helping the night time wheeziness a bit and had to have a chest X-ray done too. She suspects long covid so looks like it’s just waiting it out which is rubbish.

colouringindoors · 10/12/2022 12:15

Spent the cash on bupa gp. Very thorough and helpful. Suspects Strep A sinus infection based on all my symptoms and prescribed week Amoxicillin. Now just have to find some....

Wombatbum · 10/12/2022 12:28

Anyone got dizziness with all this? Every time I stand up, or even move my head about actually I go dizzy. 😩 I was hoping to go back to work on Monday (I work in a school and it’s my last week there next week 😢)

I hope this is true.

Entire household since mid-October (not COVID-19). It's miserable.

StickyCricket · 10/12/2022 12:49

I started with a bit of a sore throat on Thursday morning, coughing by Thursday night, and for the first time in my life - yesterday I had to buy some Tena Lady.

This is my busiest time of year at work and I'm dreading having to cancel jobs and lose so much income.

Yesterday it was an annoying tickly cough but today I'm starting to get phlegmy and can feel my chest rattling if I take a deep breath in.

Oh joy!

thecatsmum12346 · 10/12/2022 13:10

i Have had this cold/flu thing for 2 weeks. The coughing is awful. I have been v sick and nauseous. The vomiting has helped get rid of some of the phlegm (horrible I know) but the coughing has left me sore around the ribs and exhausted.
My father used to tie a sock around his neck at night to stop the tickle. It works but no too tight!!!!!
