I feel terrible, I’m coughing so hard that I’m weeing, I feel like my head is going to explode and it’s making me retch! Is there anything that works to calm it down?! I’m at my wits end

Mine started around a week and a half ago, I’ve peed myself four times, it’s been intense to say the least!

Liana89 · 07/12/2022 20:24

if you can go and see a doctor, antibiotics and inhalers in my case do work and I was so poorly before that. It just doesn't go away on its own and had the whole lot - crackling in chest, breathlessness, then fever and I coughed so much I had bad headaches and my ribs feel bruised. Insist to get help!

Sauvignonblanket · 07/12/2022 20:24

Me too - week 3

Try to annihilate it as quickly as possible, I was too slow off the mark but am now doing:

  • Lemsip cold and flu esp at night
  • Lots of honey and lemon or other warm drinks - often with a wee nip
  • Hot showers and baths
  • scarves and blankets over chest and keeping warm
  • Getting the phlegm out at every chance
  • which means standing or sitting up properly to cough
  • Actually resting and not talking
  • oddly, not cough medicine

Wishing everybody well!

Boooooot · 07/12/2022 20:28

The chest pains actually woke me up last night I’ve never experienced anything like this and I’ve had Covid 3 times!

Lazybones12 · 07/12/2022 20:30

I'm relatively lucky. 2 weeks in. Felt awful. Could hardly talk. Got GP appointment (ireland cost 50)
He took one look at me, took temp and said i should have been there long before. Gave me antibiotics and 2 days later feel so much better. Had bad chest infection with all the bells and whistles including peeing myself!

WobblyLondoner · 07/12/2022 20:33

Oh I'm so sorry to hear this. My DP has the dreaded cough and is just wretched - he's sleeping in a different room as a result but it's so loud I can hear him coughing all night. He's also got a terrible stomach problem - I won't go into the details for tmi but I feel as though that plus the endless coughing is making him shrink in from of my eyes. It's been 10 days now ...

Rinoachicken · 07/12/2022 18:34

Me too - mortifying pissing myself when coughing - quite relieved and it’s not just me!

Me too. I've had it for 3 weeks now and there's barely any improvement. I've taken to buying pack of 40 maxi tena pants on Amazon prime because I don't feel well enough to leave the house

Wheresmybiscuit3 · 07/12/2022 20:33

You probably need medical attention. I’ve had exactly the same. Coughing and the horrible pain from the pulled muscles. Wetting myself every time I coughed. Sometimes just not being able to catch my breath. Takes me hours to do anything! Puffed out all the time. Horrible cracks and wheezes in my chest.

Out of hours Doctor prescribed me steroids and an inhaler… he said I was asthmatic and should get a review. Nothing changed after I’d completed most of the course of steroids. They’ve now given me a few more days of steroids, had a nebuliser there and now also have antibiotics.

111 wanted to send an ambulance but I declined and asked to see the out of hours doctor instead.

Wheresmybiscuit3 · 07/12/2022 20:34

^^ to add I did a Covid test. Not Covid some god awful other virus

Nat6999 · 07/12/2022 20:35

Have you tested for covid?

Seaweasel · 07/12/2022 20:40

Yep - horrendous. Testing negative for COVID.

Tiredmummy2014 · 07/12/2022 20:48

Yep, DH and I have it, him worse than me. What we have found to work really well so far is Day/ Night Nurse liquid. I've hardly coughed since taking it

dementedma · 07/12/2022 20:49

Covid tests negative but I suspect this is a Covid variant of some sort. I have inhalers and take an asthma tablet every night. I find an anti histamine during the day helps.

In herbal terms, am taking mallow leaf tea and tincture, and steaming with rosemary and sage. Hyssop tea also being taken.

aquapink · 07/12/2022 20:52

On week 6. No doctor will see me.

Got horrible chest pains now too

I've just been taking mucus max and putting on incontinence pads.

I think it got to a new low when I was at my daughters nativity and had to leave because a cough attack wet right through to the chair.

PeachCottonTree · 07/12/2022 20:52

I never ever get a cough, even when I was really ill with Covid, but have had a bad cough for 4 weeks now. DH and all our family are the same. Everyone testing negative for Covid so no idea what we’ve all got. It really hurts though 😞

TheGoogleMum · 07/12/2022 21:15

Yep we've all got it in our house. DD actually isn't too bad with it she seems well except coughing mostly at night. DH and I are struggling

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 07/12/2022 21:24

Six weeks in here - went to the GP on Monday and now have antibiotics, and a chest x-ray referral. Have been so miserable with this, just battling on and on, trying to keep going with work, etc.

Hadn’t realised it was such a ‘thing’ - but sorry that so many of you are suffering because it’s awful! I recovered from Covid more quickly!

Wombatbum · 07/12/2022 21:31

Sorry to hear so many people have got the cough 😢

I’m literally weeing at every cough now. I dragged myself to the supermarket got some heavy incontinence pads, led down in bed and coughed and it missed the pad 🙄 double padded now, plus have folded a big fluffy blanket and am lying on that. I’ve been at work today but I really don’t feel like I could go tomorrow like this - I feel like I would need the actual Tena knickers to be able to leave the house! 😩

AuntieEntity · 07/12/2022 21:45

Same here. Cough, crackling in lungs. Early doors I was wetting myself, vomiting, heart palpitations because I couldn't draw breath. It was miserable, I ended up off work for two weeks. Still have the cough and a pain in my right breast (I think I've pulled something coughing). Finally have antibiotics after 6 weeks.

familyissues12345 · 07/12/2022 21:46

Yep, I retched so much this morning I was sick Sad

poppinpink · 07/12/2022 21:57

Oh no I've got this too!! Can't imagine it going on for weeks! I've a night out on Friday which is looking doubtful for me and Xmas was ruined last year with us all having Covid!

MargorieJean · 07/12/2022 22:00

I’ve had it for weeks. Horrible barking cough, so embarrassing in public and yes it’s made me realise too I need to work on my pelvic floor! I’ve just finished a course of antibiotics the GP prescribed but so far no change. Nothing helps!

earsup · 07/12/2022 22:06

Friend had it for weeks....luckily I had some Frenadol....buy in spain....its a vile tasting lemsip type stuff with cold water, not hot,....but it suppresses coughs and makes you sleepy....it worked well for her...Vicks on feet and socks help with the coughing.

OtterInABox · 08/12/2022 00:24

Yep had it for a couple of weeks now

Saw doctor today and was prescribed codeine linctus. I've had chest pains and weird horrid stabby needle pains in my upper back.

Miserable with pissing myself all the time. I never do, only when I have a cough so this reminder of my weak pelvic floor is not the one!

Got some tena pants. No. Like wearing a nappy so got some pads and they're better but Christ I can't stand it much longer. I'm in some cycle of coughing painfully, pissing myself, having a wash as o just can't bear feeling not fresh and then we repeat the cycle

angelpoise · 08/12/2022 00:27

Yup, very familiar. Several negative tests, but felt worse than my second bout of covid. Just about nearly better now after about six weeks
