To say don't vote Tory

Horsesandzebras · 07/12/2022 10:53

Little poll really to see how Mumsnetters feel towards the Tory Party

YANBU = I dislike how the Torys have managed the country
YABU = I like how the Tories have managed the country

I know it's unreasonable to tell you how to vote. I just think it will be interesting to guage their popularity on here.

Answer @Hooverphobe 's question then 'do you support paedophiles and male rapists in female prisons?''

I don't, that's one of the reasons the Tories have to go.

YANBU @Horsesandzebras, the Conservative Party have wrecked the UK.

Telling a tory not to vote tory is like telling a labrador not to eat that chocolate cake.

It doesnt matter how bad it will end up for them (or everyone else), they can't think beyond their own immediate gratification so will do it anyway.

All this comment has done is make me want to pet a Labrador and eat some delicious chocolate cake. Sounds like an ideal afternoon

I am supremely comfortable with the stats and salaries I posted on here thanks.

They are lies - you are comfortable with lies, that's fine.

It's been fluctuating somewhere between 30% and 40% of voters think the Conservatives have done a good job of running the country

I am quite surprised by this figure - given everything that has been in the news.

I thought their chances would be dead, but clearly not.

If the PM starts throwing out vote clinching offers at the GE then we could easily see them staying in power.

I know my little poll is flawed, but still. It must be remotely reflective of the feelings out there.

I haven't voted as I'm using the app.

SherbetDips · 07/12/2022 13:00

I’ll vote how a bloody well choose thank you. I didn’t vote in your silly poll as some things I am not happy about but I wouldn’t want a Labour government so I’ll continue to vote conservative.

Thebestwaytoscareatory · 07/12/2022 13:01

MarshaBradyo · 07/12/2022 12:52

Why do you as a Labour voter need to tell people how to vote?

They don’t owe anything to you, why would they. You’re not entitled to two votes including theirs

I'm not a labour voter, there's more than two options you know.

Thebestwaytoscareatory · 07/12/2022 13:01

Of course not. Same idea that you can tell others how to vote.

PurpleButterflyWings · 07/12/2022 13:03

It's actually terrifying to think that some people think calling people 'woke lefties' is as bad as people calling other people thick, uneducated, bigoted racists. You really think that's the same? Shock As I say, it's terrifying that people with these views actually are allowed to vote. And also people don't realise that voting for the green makes you left wing. There's so much bizarre shit on this thread, I'm out.

TooBigForMyBoots · 07/12/2022 13:05

The OP isn't telling people how to vote, shes asking them not to vote Tory. It's hardly a radical suggestion, of the country doesn't vote for them anyway.🤷‍♀️

No. People are voting YABU, because they think that you are being unreasonable to tell people how to vote. And now I really am out of this thread. It is pathetic. Grow up.

Then she IS telling people how to vote! Confused

Fuck me I give up. God help this country!

Loics · 07/12/2022 13:08

I haven't insulted anyone, however I wouldn't say the woke lefties trope is insulting, more makes the person saying it sound silly. The others could be insults, could be true, I suppose.
I couldn't find myself defending right wing voters, in any case.

StanleyPaul12 · 07/12/2022 13:08

I vote tory. Happy enough to admit it so YABU.

No gov is ever perfect and I could potentially be swayed to vote Labour if they stood up against all of the gender reform crap.

TooBigForMyBoots · 07/12/2022 13:09

If someone has called you a thick, uneducated, bigoted racist report them @PurpleButterflyWings. I see more complaints that it happened, than it actually happening.

TodayInahurry · 07/12/2022 13:09

What makes people think Labour would be better?

TreadLight · 07/12/2022 13:11

It doesn't matter who is in power, they will follow the same centrist agenda whether they are blue or red. Labour steadily increase tax and spend. Conservatives don't lower it. We just need a change every now and then to freshen things up a bit, but in the big picture, it doesn't make a blind but of difference who sits on the Speaker's left, and who sits on his right.

Because is the majority of MN is very, very middle class who overwhelmingly vote with their purses, regardless of pretending to care about the issue of the day. Some are aware enough to pretend they're doing it for women's rights or because they don't like the terms of your question, but really they don't like poor people and don't want to share their privilege.

GloomyDarkness · 07/12/2022 13:13

So yes we are going to have to choose between the right which are in a pitch battle internally and the hard left. Great.

It does look depressing if you look at just Labour and Conservative - though many other parties have problems as well.

The Labour party look to me like a washed up bunch of wasters that couldn't come up with a single policy between them, and had to borrow Gordon Brown's ideas. It is honestly, painfully pitiful.

They aren't impressing me - but I did like most though not all of Gordon Brown's ideas on constitutional reform - so I will be looking hard at their manifesto when the time comes to see what is and isn't there.

I've seen many posts saying Labour will do this and that based on nothing more than some poster wishing for it or fearing it - even when they've said no such thing or ruled it out.

That doesn't mean the Tory's are doing well at minute either they look tried and fairly talentless.

When the time to vote actually comes there will be local considerations as well - and between then and now there nearly 2 years and frankly last few have been mad with events and the world might look very different again.

Thebestwaytoscareatory · 07/12/2022 13:14

Whammyyammy · 07/12/2022 12:53

And this is your opinion, which you are entitled to have.
But it's not everyone else's opinion and insulting people just shows who you are as a person and won't sway them to vote for the sane party you vote for.

To be quite honest I don't really care anymore.

The last few years have shown that no amount of logic or reasoning will sway people anyway so there's no real point engaging or debating now.

Why listen to the opinions of experts and people who have dedicated their lives to a subject when there's a meme or YouTube video that says what you want to hear instead?

Democracy is failing (I'd argue it had failed) and we are on a path of decline. Government transparency, honesty, and integrity is non-existent and everyone is done for the benefit of the few and the detriment of the many.

The economy is failing, education failing, public services failing, NHS failing, people can't afford to heat or fed themselves or their children properly and living standards are plummeting. Yet over 30% of people on this thread are going to vote those responsible for it all back into power again.

I'm definitely not right wing and loath what the Tories are doing to the country, I voted YABU because telling someone who to vote for is utterly wrong.

Encouraging people to look at manifestos, voting patterns of existing candidates to see if they match manifestos and finding a candidate you feel most aligned to - fair enough, more should be done to encourage a responsible approach to voting.

Vilifying people for how they voted achieves nothing tangible except a stubborn digging in and probable repeating of their vote out of bloody mindedness.

WhoHasMovedMyBrain · 07/12/2022 13:16

stickydoughnuts · 07/12/2022 10:59

MN is left leaning. Everyone shouts down people who admit to voting Tory. It will be a totally skewed poll, like most polls have been for the last decade. Few people are going to admit to voting Tory.

I will, but tbh it’s much of a muchness and I won’t mind that much if Keir gets in - it’s not like with JC where it would have been a clusterfuck.

Really? So you don't think we are having a clusterfuck right now?

You don’t know this, it’s your bias. Labour voters sense of what others find a priority and why is woeful.

The sense of ownership over other women’s views - they’re pretending etc - and votes is increasingly common on the left. It’s a shame.

I realised the error as soon as I posted, but I did try to make it clear it is a vote on how people feel about how the country has been run by the Tory party.

I know telling people how to or not to vote is unreasonable.

Some people are saying the poll is silly, but I find it interesting. I think it is interesting to see how people feel about the way the country is run. It impacts all of us.
