To say don't vote Tory

Horsesandzebras · 07/12/2022 10:53

Little poll really to see how Mumsnetters feel towards the Tory Party

YANBU = I dislike how the Torys have managed the country
YABU = I like how the Tories have managed the country

I know it's unreasonable to tell you how to vote. I just think it will be interesting to guage their popularity on here.

I am very torn. As things stand I can’t vote for Labour. I will look into the Lib Dems, but I am not sure they have a realistic chance of getting into government and so a vote not for Labour is perhaps a vote for Tory.

girlmom21 · 07/12/2022 12:41

@Venetiaparties you can have a certain political leaning without blindly following them in every sense.

Whammyyammy · 07/12/2022 12:41

heloiseandabe · 07/12/2022 12:31

You're joking of course?

Not in the slightest? Why would MY CHOICE of vote be considered as a joke by you? Because we are voting for different parties?
Should I just let you have my vote?

Jansobieski · 07/12/2022 12:42

@MarshaBradyo not telling anyone how to vote.
I expect the UK will continue to decline. EU is preparing for a future trade war so things will only get worse. I'm financially well insulated so have no skin in the game really. I just happen to live somewhere that has declined massively yet voted to cut it's nose off by electing MPs who literally are useless and have reneged on all their manifesto promises. Once austerity mark 2 hits us harder again than Tunbridge Wells things may change.

Horsesandzebras · 07/12/2022 11:20

I never told you to vote labour. Other parties do exist.

The post is about finding out if mumsnetters are rightleaning and the current result shows a significant number are.

As it happens, I’m not voting Tory because I find they’re too left leaning, so in answer to your question, have voted YANBU. But that will probably affect your stats/conclusions.

heloiseandabe · 07/12/2022 12:44

Why would this be a joke? Do people really not see how annoying it is to be constantly told/hectored/instructed to do something? And usually be called a thick idiot at the same time? It pushes people the other way; that applies for anything in life.

Let's think. How do we vote?

Party policy, manifesto and so on - quite possibly plays a part...

Behaviour of a handful of Mumsnetters who say their allegiance is to a particular party. Not really a factor in my voting decisions, I must say. Hence a joke surely!

MakeMineALarge1 · 07/12/2022 12:44

@Venetiaparties nurses don't earn anything near that.
Please do your research.

Glad to hear it. Because we’re mostly women here and having votes controlled by you cannot vote for x party isn’t going to go down well.

You are welcome of course to vote according to your priorities as is anyone else posting on here.

Blimey 😳

Are we voting for different parties? I think you need to read the thread again for clarification and context

DillyDillyLavender · 07/12/2022 12:47

I don’t like how some of the conservative party have acted in the past year or so, but I will never in a million years vote for Labour. For many many reason. Which means that I will be voting conservative again at the next GE.

Venetiaparties · 07/12/2022 12:48

MarshaBradyo · 07/12/2022 12:37

I’m with you. Labour voters like pp getting angry that people won’t vote in the way they want and / or calling people bots. Same old.

Yes exactly!

I would consider voting for a Labour government if I could imagine a lisping and vapid Starmer offering outstanding, inspirational leadership supported by a flock of competent and professional ministers that can offer the country a prosperous future - but we are not going to get that are we! We have the mean girl hard left bruiser waiting in the wings to take over, Starmer is going to mince meat - he won't last, the hard left are biding their time trust me, and he will be strong armed out in no time, he is so weak he will stand no chance, and they know it. We will end up with a militant hard left cabal running the country. I can not think of anything more dangerous at this point.

The Labour party look to me like a washed up bunch of wasters that couldn't come up with a single policy between them, and had to borrow Gordon Brown's ideas. It is honestly, painfully pitiful.

So yes we are going to have to choose between the right which are in a pitch battle internally and the hard left. Great.

Thebestwaytoscareatory · 07/12/2022 12:49

Telling a tory not to vote tory is like telling a labrador not to eat that chocolate cake.

It doesnt matter how bad it will end up for them (or everyone else), they can't think beyond their own immediate gratification so will do it anyway.

Tiredallofthetime · 07/12/2022 12:50

The reason women fought for decades to get the vote is so their interests could be served in parliament. That is literally why the vote exists.

Loics · 07/12/2022 12:50

Oh if it comes to it, I will absolutely not vote for a right wing party. Never, ever. I still don't have a party of choice, but I would only consider vote centre/centre-left. Hard left I'm not sure, should the situation arise I'd need to look into it.
Right is always a hard no, no, no way, no, never!

Why do you as a Labour voter need to tell people how to vote?

They don’t owe anything to you, why would they. You’re not entitled to two votes including theirs

Venetiaparties · 07/12/2022 12:52

As a woman and the mother of girls, I will probably vote for the conservative party, because at least they seem to recognise what we are, and the importance of our rights even if in my view they are late to the party.
I hate to think what will happen if the LP get in when it comes to new policies around gender and sex.

SkylightSkylight · 07/12/2022 12:53

bozzabollix · 07/12/2022 11:43

Oh god I pressed the wrong option. What a mistake!

I fucking detest and loathe them.

My husband works in a hospital, it was jammed yesterday, full of people who could be discharged had the Tories not decimated social care budgets. People will be dying through being stuck in those corridors waiting for a bed to become available.

If you’re in the NHS or someone married to a person who is then unless you’re a massive aberration you’re not going to be happy with the Tories. Frankly we can’t get rid fast enough, but then the rebuilding effort will be huge.

@bozzabollix all you need to do is tap the other option & it'll switch your vote.

that's my total contribution to this stupid thread

And this is your opinion, which you are entitled to have.
But it's not everyone else's opinion and insulting people just shows who you are as a person and won't sway them to vote for the sane party you vote for.

I haven't run away 😂Some of us actually work for a living y'know!

Anyone that calls another a 'bot' should be banned. Remember the rules.

I will wait for Labour to recognise my vagina, ovaries and ability to create life, and to take a few history lessons about the suffragettes before I would even consider them as a 'serious' contender. My rights are not for sale.

Nothing to say on the lies you posted about salaries I see.

Hooverphobe · 07/12/2022 12:30

Schroedinger’s Tory - both thick and uneducated AND a public-school toff.

Spending money on education doesn’t automatically make you super bright.

There are of course plenty of public school alumni that do have brains and ability. But plenty who don’t.

HalfasleepChrisintheMorning · 07/12/2022 12:55

Dislike what the Conservatives have done to the country.
Dislike Labour policy even more.
Will vote for my current (Tory) constituency MP as he’s great. Very engaged with the local community and always replies to my email rants.

I am supremely comfortable with the stats and salaries I posted on here thanks.

Horsesandzebras · 07/12/2022 12:58

Results update
It's been fluctuating somewhere between 30% and 40% of voters think the Conservatives have done a good job of running the country

I am quite surprised by this figure - given everything that has been in the news.

I thought their chances would be dead, but clearly not.

If the PM starts throwing out vote clinching offers at the GE then we could easily see them staying in power.

I know my little poll is flawed, but still. It must be remotely reflective of the feelings out there.
