After seeing the second trailer I think its going to be a glorious car crash and I cannot wait to watch it all.

H&M are the gift that just keeps giving.

AutumnCrow · 05/12/2022 20:15

Harry came in and contradicted M during the Oprah Winfrey interview about the timing of that conversation. She just looked at him. I can imagine him repeatedly passing her duff information and misremembered or misunderstood versions of conversations.

Yes, it was immediately obvious one of them was either wrong or lying. It was a big discrepancy, huge. Becayde there is a big difference between asking stupidly and jokingly as the very start of a relationship and asking seriously when Meghan is pregnant. Both shit, but very very different. Intent is a key differentiator

which makes me think they were stupid enough not to have final sign off in that interview before it aired,. Oprah left that in on purpose, so everyone could see it. Oprah is many things, but you’d never accuse her of being an idiot.

when it came to the account of that racist question, Oprah herself let the public see the discrepancy. That’s major. Oprah could easily have removed it. Manipulated that content so it was not questioned.

Oprah chose not to.

I see where you’re coming from but real people are involved. You can be filthy rich but still have feelings. My brother is an arse and as my df gets older, I see how his ‘antics’ make my df sad and anxious. I do feel for KC.

Gilmorehill · 05/12/2022 21:22

@Sparklypant very interesting insight about Oprah. Harry’s body language when M spoke about the ‘real’ wedding was odd too. He just looked at the ground IIRC.

He also had an awkward little sing song. MM says at the end “Yeah just the three of us” and Harry sings “Just the three of us” in the style of style of Bill Withers 😂 which I always thought was odd

Interestingly there’s a journalist on Twitter pointing out that pictures being shared alongside the documentary releases tagged as “invasive” and paparazzi shots are actually officially taken pool shots 🙄

I think a lot of these professional, accredited photographers are going to (a) be getting a bit pissed off being lumped in with 'paparazzi', and (b) want in on the credits and royalties.

adriftabroad · 06/12/2022 10:08

Good observation about Oprah @Sparklypant had not clocked that.

Wow @CaveMum so basically they've taken other people's paparazzi photos and said this was us?! How can they have any credibility?!!
Awaiting the 'ohh we never said this was us someone else has....

limitedperiodonly · 06/12/2022 14:12

As a journalist may I say I really appreciate this new-found appreciation for our trade. It's not often we get praise for our efforts to bring truth or pity for our traducement in doing so, particularly on Mumsnet, so I am touched.

I wonder what has inspired this appreciation? I don't expect it will last but I'll enjoy it while it does.

BTW most us like Harry and Meghan because they are very good copy.

I wonder if Netflix did this on purpose..? As a dig to M&H, they greedily took NF’s money but then didn’t let them film inside their home as much as agreed..so maybe the photos are there for a reason. That would actually be well played by Netflix if that’s the case.

@Trollsintheforest that's an interesting and complex conspiracy theory; My dull but more credible explanation would be that the documentary picture editor couldn't find any shots of real stalkerazzi because they don't exist, so used shots of accredited photographers in an official pool because it fitted the story.

It was a problem they needed to fix and though it is misleading, as someone who has been presented with similar problems I can't find in my heart to blame them.

As I previously said, it's touching that some Mumsnetters are at last expressing appreciation for the work of journalists. There will of course be some morally superior diehards. I expect they will make their presence felt.

I don't expect a Thursday Night Clap or even that it will last into next week but I want everyone who normally loathes journalists and can't wait to say what morally bankrupt people with no principles we are to know that it means a lot to me that so many of you have changed your positions. For now. Because it suits you. Even if you'll change them back next week.

Who knew Harry and Meghan could inspire such unity? Do you want me to budge up in the gutter for you or won't you be staying long?

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 06/12/2022 15:01

I have changed my opinion of journalists. They're bloody awesome. Putting their lives on the line reporting from the frontline in Ukraine, risking the wrath of Putin reporting the truth in Russia, tirelessly unearthing corruption in our own government and risking being banned from press conferences for doing it.

There are however many who claim to be journalists these days who are not journalists. They are just opinionated knobbers with access to a media outlet.

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 06/12/2022 15:02

That should say I haven't changed my opinion.

OMG12 · 06/12/2022 15:04

poefaced · 04/12/2022 00:27

A threat to their lives is pretty high stakes for them.

As abhorrent as this is, I doubt doing a high profile Netflix documentary slagging off the royals/husbands family/British life is really going to help matters. H&M saying how upset they are is not really going to make some would-be assassin go “ oh no she crying, won’t shoot her after all”

I would have thought going b low profile would be best. They aren’t going to get protection, they aren’t living in the UK and they aren’t members of the working royal family

diddl · 06/12/2022 15:06

So in the trailer there are shots of both Diana & Kate being "stalked".

So if that's just the trailer the actual content must have Meghan being even more stalked iyswim.

limitedperiodonly · 06/12/2022 15:07

@Trollsintheforest why should Meghan and Harry be obliged to allow people into their home just because they are working with them or deserve vengeance for not doing so? That's a bit strong.

Would you do that? I wouldn't. I work on the premise that no one comes in unless it's my mum, the plumber or the police with a warrant.

I hate to bang on about being a journalist but despite fevered fantasies that's not how we operate.

LadyEloise1 · 06/12/2022 15:11

@limitedperiodonly
I have great respect for journalists like Orla Guerin, Kate Adie, Fergal Keane etc who report from the front line, at great cost to themselves ( I watched the Fergal Keane documentary on his PTSD ), so people like me know what's going in the world.
I have great respect too for investigative journalists who call out dodgy practices.

I'm surprised there hasn't been more fall out re Jeffrey Epstein. Some very big names appear to have flown on his plane.
Perhaps right now some great journalist is following up leads and getting a story together.

TopSec · 06/12/2022 15:12

What I don't understand is that they have all these pictures of Meghan crying into her hands and Harry obviously stressed, yet they managed to have a private photographer around them at that exact time. Not only that, Harry allowed them to photograph Meghan when she was, apparently, distressed. Given her mental health problems, for which (they say) she received no help from despite Harry being a big part of the Mental Health Charity "Heads Together" what husband would allow that, and at the same time stating that he "had to do everything he could to protect his family". This just does not make sense. I think they may have scored a huge big own goal with this.

I haven’t changed my opinion. Real journalists are great.

But don’t you think Netflix knew that every second in the series would be analyzed? That is what made me wonder. But yeah, a friend of mine works with photo shoots for a world wide company. She always says more than you’d think is improvised the very last minute no matter how well put together you think it looks..and before that she worked for a big make up company, she said the names they came up with for lipsticks etc were just the first random name they could think off and that would have to do..

No, I would not do that for any money.

Don't know if you noticed Oprah twice pressed MM when she said, (linking them all as if they occured at the time of the pregnancy), Archies skin colour was questioned, he wouldn't be a prince, and he wouldnt get security, tried to infer it was said to her directly? Eventually when pressed she admitted it was said to Harry. Harry comes in and says it happened before She was even pregnant. He actually looked uncomfortable at the lie.

It's the nature of what they're working on that's key. And for this kind of insight programme, showing (some of) the home would be pretty normal

NetFlix aren't exactly newcomers to this, and know what's reasonable
