Does anyone know what these are?! Feeling uneasy

Not an AIBU but posting here for traffic as feeling a bit uneasy.

I am staying in a hotel and I have just come upstairs (back to my room) from the co working space downstairs where I have been for several hours.

Anyway, I have arrived back in my room to find these on my bed??!! I am sure that it's nothing and possibly something housekeeping left here by mistake when they last came a day or so ago and they've found their way to my bed (although I slept in this bed last night and pretty sure they weren't here).

I cannot help but think it's something more sinister and they have been deliberately placed here. Sent my friend a voice note 'joking' that it was a death threat but not entirely a joke! And friend is asleep of course so hasn't yet replied.

I haven't ever seen anything like this before.

Does anyone know what they are or what they could be?

Thanks

Can you contact the reception and ask if it's anything to do with them?

Passthecheeseboard · 01/12/2022 05:07

Ooh that’s creepy 😱… what could it mean??

following, love a good mystery

ApolloandDaphne · 01/12/2022 05:07

Are they maybe something from the work space which have stuck to your bag which you have then placed on the bed?

Sunnidaze · 01/12/2022 05:08

Where I live we have light boxes that we can put plastic letters in to spell out a message. These are plastic letters from a light box.

Yes good idea and not too sure why I didn't think of this to be honest!

They communicate mostly through whatsapp so I have just dropped them a message and see what they have to say...

No, not that. I haven't put my bag on or near the bed, it always stayed by the door.

Do the letters mean anything? Your initials?

minimalistthoughts · 01/12/2022 05:14

Yes! thank you!

They're definitely these.

So the questions that I have now are

  1. what are they doing on my bed?
  2. who put them there?

I know you can't answer these, just thinking aloud

Is coded message:

Expect to be awarded a Tiffany bracelet on departure, for being their most pleasant guest.

No not my initials. Although my first name does begin with J, but my surname is not a W / M name (can't tell whether its meant to be a W or M!)

Something has been dropped in your room. Why are you looking for anything more sinister, it doesn’t mean anything.

Sunnidaze · 01/12/2022 05:25

I just looked at my light box letters and it's a W. Maybe they have them to set up rooms nicely for honeymoon couples and they were dropped by a one of the housekeeping staff when they made up your room?

fruktsoda · 01/12/2022 05:27

The Jehovah's Witnesses left them as a not quite subliminal message?

bridgetreilly · 01/12/2022 05:32

I am so glad this thread wasn’t about bed bugs!

misssunshine4040 · 01/12/2022 05:37

I wouldn't like this at all.
If you didn't notice them before you went down then and they have only appeared since, I would ask to move room.
It could be something or nothing but you want to feel safe in your room and you could absolutely ask to have different room

LadyWithLapdog · 01/12/2022 05:43

Strange. Let us know what Reception have to say.

I like it!

One-upmanship over the Gideons and their bible-in-bedside-drawer strategy...

GaspingGekko · 01/12/2022 05:49

I would presume they have been left by a previous occupant, not spotted by cleaning staff until today - possibly slightly under the bed or something. Cleaners have found them today and put them somewhere obvious for you to find - thinking that they are yours?

Yes, it’s nothing. Move on and enjoy your stay.

hellycat · 01/12/2022 06:26

Much as I have always adored Agatha Christie and stories of mysterious codes appearing out of the blue (there's a Christie novel where an entire Soviet spy plot is uncovered when a detective finds a scrap of paper with a few scribbles on in a suburban street), I think that it's much more likely that the housekeeper dropped them from a cleaning trolley. They look like something that would be used to organise a cupboard, filing space, whatever. Maybe ask at reception if they belong to the desk clerk?

This was my first thought and seems to be the most likely scenario, so probably the right one.

pictish · 01/12/2022 06:42

They have fallen out of a staff member’s pocket, or they have put them down and forgotten about them…OR they have found it on the floor and think they’re yours.
There is nothing untoward in this. Don’t worry.
