Does anyone know what these are?! Feeling uneasy

Not an AIBU but posting here for traffic as feeling a bit uneasy.

I am staying in a hotel and I have just come upstairs (back to my room) from the co working space downstairs where I have been for several hours.

Anyway, I have arrived back in my room to find these on my bed??!! I am sure that it's nothing and possibly something housekeeping left here by mistake when they last came a day or so ago and they've found their way to my bed (although I slept in this bed last night and pretty sure they weren't here).

I cannot help but think it's something more sinister and they have been deliberately placed here. Sent my friend a voice note 'joking' that it was a death threat but not entirely a joke! And friend is asleep of course so hasn't yet replied.

I haven't ever seen anything like this before.

Does anyone know what they are or what they could be?

Thanks

I'm guessing they were just dropped by housekeeping staff or something. Hope reception get back to you though!

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 01/12/2022 09:46

What kind of hotel communicates via WhatsApp? You can't just phone the desk?

I wouldn't like this at all.
If you didn't notice them before you went down then and they have only appeared since, I would ask to move room.
It could be something or nothing but you want to feel safe in your room and you could absolutely ask to have different room

Why would you imagine anything so sinister? Other PP have come up with several mundane possibilities. So over dramatic - move room ffs.

I would presume they have been left by a previous occupant, not spotted by cleaning staff until today - possibly slightly under the bed or something. Cleaners have found them today and put them somewhere obvious for you to find - thinking that they are yours?

This is likely. I once returned to my room to find a pair of men’s boxer shorts on the bed. The cleaners had belatedly found them under the bed and assumed they were mine 😐

Thought this strange as well. Plus any hotel I have stayed in Housekeeping comes to my room each day. If we don't want them then we communicate that to them.

unfortunateevents · 01/12/2022 10:26

Given the time of your initial post I assume your hotel is not in the UK? Where are you that the reception communicates via WhatsApp, is the desk not manned? Do they refuse to speak to you if you just turn up there? Also what kind of hotel does not make up your room for several days?

ThreeblackCats · 01/12/2022 10:27

So do we think @minimalistthoughts is ever going to return to this to let us know what reception said? Or has she gone off in a sulk because the thread didn’t quite go her way?

determinedtomakethiswork · 01/12/2022 10:32

I think housekeeping have been in to make sure you have enough loo roll.

No, she Just Went.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 01/12/2022 10:55

A previous guest dropped them on the floor.

Housekeeping picked them up and either thought they were yours, or put them on the bed meaning to do something with them and forgot.

OoooohMatron · 01/12/2022 10:55

Light box letters. Maybe the cleaner found them under the bed and left them in case they were yours.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 01/12/2022 10:57

Fairly obviously, the OP is in a different time zone - if she is returning to her room for the night after working at 5am, then she is probably now in bed......

oakleaffy · 01/12/2022 11:34

@minimalistthoughts That’s a W, not an M- , I’d not have given something like this a second thought- Did the cleaner maybe bring a child to work with them?

Were they “Placed” or just casually dropped?

It it was me, I’d put them to one side, or in the bin.

Definitely wouldn’t have thought of “ Death threat”!

Very true- I only ever stay in cheap hotels if needed and even these have the room cleaned and bedding changed daily.

Cwcwbird · 01/12/2022 11:39

Those lightbox letters get everywhere. We got rid of the kids lightboxes ages ago but the letters still turn up from time to time.

CarefreeMe · 01/12/2022 11:59

I would assume housekeeping has been in and found them on the floor so put them on the bed do you can see them.

Wallstick · 01/12/2022 12:26

Have you been hit with the lead pipe in the library yet, OP?

Sunnidaze · 01/12/2022 12:34

@Tirrrrred do you realise OP didn't know what they were???

magicscares · 01/12/2022 12:35

My immediate thought is that someone fancies you - they’ve left your initial next to theirs as a clue?!
i agree it’s creepy & someone must’ve let them into your room to do so.
Could that be it?

wickerhearth · 01/12/2022 12:36

Yeah so sinister...🥱🙄

What sort of hotel only communicates through WhatsApp? Or am I just that out of touch? 😂

Stay Wilde in Manchester...you also have to download an app for the temp control settings. Plus they only do housekeeping if you are staying longer tha 3 nights. Nice place though.
