To think this isn’t working class?

Came across a video of someone talking about an influencer (very rich, lavish lifestyle, acts like old money, has a Birkin) and they said her content was aimed at working class.

I stated that it definitely isn’t.

Their response - As in those who work in higher incomes- working Class is a very broad spectrum now as I’m sure you’re aware 🥰

Am I wrong?

I’ve heard of Made In Chelsea but they’re not old money either. Old money doesn’t need to flog stuff for income on social – perhaps flog an antique wardrobe at auction.

Some come from money, Millie Macintosh for one. Likely Spencer Matthew’s and Jamie Lang too.

I’m not from uk so i really confused here. I thought classes in the uk not mainly about money?. But about how posh their upbringing and they look like.

in terms of money i’m very fortunate. But i consider myself as working class because i loud, i’m not graceful at all.

everytime i drop my kids at their private school i can see parents who are middle class are very graceful and sound very posh with RP accent. While my accent its my homecountry accent.

one of my friend i consider middle class because she is very classy and very posh looking, but in terms of money she is not consider rich.

am i wrong? Or is class about money?

Class is a thing that in real life matters much less than you would imagine on a personal scale and much more than you would imagine due to opportunities open to people with connections and money - looking straight at you Eton boys in government.

Most people are just getting on with the same things - going to work, going food shopping, looking after kids, occasional party.

You don’t need to be working class to aim your content there. Look at mrs hinch, she aims at bith working and middle class, but is now elite class. Her, her husband and her kids never need to work a day in their lives. Her and her husband manage her as a brand , it’s set up as a company and a very successful one at that.

i think some folks get confused, what your parents were is not what you are, social mobility is a thing. Just working doesn’t make you working class. And you can aim your content at anyone you choose

😂😂😂😂 Elite! No they really aren’t. You may wish what you are posting is true and maybe it should be in 2022 but you are so so wrong.

What was her recent blunder ?

She said that her heating at home was broken, so she was going to check in at The Savoy instead. It sounds fairly innocent, but it was so tone deaf and thoughtless in the current climate.

I should think it was a gifted PR trip anyway.

BetterDrownedThanDuffer · 27/11/2022 08:29

Oh sorry - I see a few people had answered you already.

And that her PR team have joined the thread 😂

The British are obsessed with class still. It’s very hard to define but certainly doesn’t depend on how much money you have. I enjoyed Grayson Perrys program where he tried to define class, very interesting. I think people take umbrage with LM because they think she pretends to be middle/ upper middle class when it’s clear from her blog her tastes used to be much more WC. Brits hate anyone perceived as putting on airs and graces. They don’t mind people becoming rich but try to become middle class when you’re not and you’re in for trouble Grin. I’ve always vaguely followed her as she was a friend of a friend at uni. She was always super ambitious and hard working according to them. I don’t know why she gets more hate than other influencers. They are all vapid, self obsessed twits really. Although the Savoy was a major blunder. Why does somewhere like the savoy need to advertise with an influencer? Trying to get a younger clientele maybe? I hope the COL crisis ends influencing tbh.

Class hasn't really got anything to do with money. Being an influencer isn't an educated profession, so yes she's working class.

Class is to do with money very much so but not solely there's other factors. Ultimately class is built from generation wealth/education passed down the line.

Depends on the influencer Patrica Bright is an influencer but she is highly educated.

DanglingMod · 27/11/2022 08:54

I've no idea who this person is or whether she is mc, wc or anything else, but I'm not sure that following or even having heard of any "influencers" is a very mc pursuit.

containsnuts · 27/11/2022 08:56

No amount of influencing in going to make anyone 'old money' or upper class because it's not something that can be bought - it's something you're born into. Those with spare money can buy a little taste of what they think the lifestyle involves, for example, by having afternoon tea at the Savoy but it's ultimately a form of rollplaying at being upper class and the people who enjoy that are the intended audience imo.

This is so cringe. She really doesn't have any self awareness does she.

Ah yes a birkin filled with apples...an absolute essential for country folk off down the yard 🤣

readingismycardio · 27/11/2022 09:24

She's definitely new money pretending to be old money. Just look at her style from years ago. Obviously, people and style evolve, but she doesn't seem capable to read the (very cold) room 😉

byvirtue · 27/11/2022 09:28

That video is hilarious 😂 I watched one of her videos pre kids and I thought she was pretty Towie. For someone rollicking round the countryside she must live in a mud free/wind free area with her shiny boots and unruffled hair.

I've see lots of media from people who are 'old money' who's money is running out. And they are broke. Having to turn their houses into something that can spin them an income. Would not be surprised at all if their children turned into influencers.

You’re confused, it’s not about how “classy” they are. She is elite clas, they own and run a very successful business, and are multi millionaires. Working class is paid by the hour getting a wage.

bravelittletiger · 27/11/2022 10:06

@Joyfuljolly culturally some would argue you can't change or move classes. So you might have lots of cash and be "elite" as you say but still have working class values and aspirations and you may be posh or upper class but have no money or have to earn a wage.

Nah, to be truly old money you’d stick with an ancient 90s Nokia in the pocket of your tattered coat slung in the back of a dog-hair-covered muddy Land Rover.

I'm not remotely confused. We are talking about class here, not money. To be in the elite class someone has lots of money, but they also have very high social and cultural capital. Being a multi-millionaire does not in itself confer upper- or elite-class status.
