To think this isn’t working class?

Came across a video of someone talking about an influencer (very rich, lavish lifestyle, acts like old money, has a Birkin) and they said her content was aimed at working class.

I stated that it definitely isn’t.

Their response - As in those who work in higher incomes- working Class is a very broad spectrum now as I’m sure you’re aware 🥰

Am I wrong?

So doing ads for The Savoy would be largely aimed at working class people?

Surely it's aspirational, and if the Savoy are paying her to be there (do the Savoy need to market this way these days?), it's the 'afternoon teas' and maybe an annual 'weekend away with a show as a treat' market that they would be aiming at through her.

People who stay there frequently don't need influencers to influence them to do so. Except maybe some very new money people - even then I doubt it?

I don't say this in a snobbish way, I'm just analysing what the situation might be. Never heard of her and don't follow influencers personally.

"Class" in the UK 2022 is utter bollocks. Many degree/msc/PhD educated people earn less than some plumbers / plasterers / HR staff. The amount you earn has nothing to do with your social status or your value to society. It's just luck. The whole "class" thing needs to go in the bin.

Wealth is silent

Is she the one who did the “my hot water is broken I’m off to the Savoy” ad? Yeah there’s nothing “old money” about her. Does anyone old money do social media influencing?

Have you not heard of Made In Chelsea? Most of the old casts entire income is flogging stuff on social media.

stuntbubbles · 27/11/2022 00:46

I’ve heard of Made In Chelsea but they’re not old money either. Old money doesn’t need to flog stuff for income on social – perhaps flog an antique wardrobe at auction.

GarlandsinGreece · 27/11/2022 00:47

There are posh influencers out there. The Manners Sisters and Mrs Alice come to mind.

Lydia Millen is an absolute prat.

Imagine someone who never apologises, ever, for lying, acting badly and treating people badly, but instead always makes the storyline about her. Poor Me. Look at Me. Fake from her tits to her toes.

Her desperate PR team are now trying to get views/followers wherever they can following her most recent blunder.

I hope she gets cancelled.

What was her recent blunder ?

stuntbubbles · 27/11/2022 00:51

@Livinginanotherworld A video where she claimed her hot water was on the blink so she was checking into the Savoy. V relatable! And also she failed to mark it as an ad.

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 27/11/2022 01:14

I really loathe this British obsession with class.

Whenever someone asks if something is relevant to middle/working classes I always wonder how on Earth it matters.

You admit you don’t watch the show yet know their social backgrounds? One of them is the heir to McVitties fortune, another is a Quality Street heiress. Not everyone with rich parent will just give them money. If I was rich I wouldn’t give my adult child pocket money.

Also why is it a good thing to be “old money”? That just means you’re useless and only have wealth because Great Grandaddy did well? How is that something to be proud of?

stuntbubbles · 27/11/2022 01:22

Where have I said being “old money” is good?

Miss03852 · 27/11/2022 01:25

Your saying old money wouldn’t behave that way as if they’re so “above” it

stuntbubbles · 27/11/2022 01:26

Nope, zero value judgements were made: that’s entirely your projection.

Liorae · 27/11/2022 01:32

How sweet...

Joyfuljolly · 27/11/2022 01:34

You don’t need to be working class to aim your content there. Look at mrs hinch, she aims at bith working and middle class, but is now elite class. Her, her husband and her kids never need to work a day in their lives. Her and her husband manage her as a brand , it’s set up as a company and a very successful one at that.

i think some folks get confused, what your parents were is not what you are, social mobility is a thing. Just working doesn’t make you working class. And you can aim your content at anyone you choose

Catflapping · 27/11/2022 02:11

Working class has always meant someone that depends on work to earn. If you lost your job, your lifestyle would be changed. You don’t own businesses that are run by other people or get money from your investments/ property. I say this as someone who is often referred to as middle class and wouldn’t argue the point as it seems tactless and insensitive.

Squirrelvillage · 27/11/2022 02:15

Never heard of this person, I've just looked her up and can't see the middle classes going for it TBH Grin

Ericaequites · 27/11/2022 02:39

Old Northeast American money wears its clothes out and carries classic Coach with no labels for years. Most of them are coated with pet hair and are polite to everyone. They buy meat, veg, fruit, and dairy at nice stores, but bulk shop for staples at Costco or Walmart. Their children wear hand me downs from older sibs or relatives, but not secondhand bought from strangers. They stay rich by watching each penny, never lending money, and not showing off.
Women wear the same dress to a half dozen occasions in one year. It’s rude to notice this. Pearls go with everything from a flannel nightgown to a wedding dress. Waste is a form of sin.

Kindnessfirst · 27/11/2022 03:20

Hi all
There is an absolutely repulsive online forum that’s only aim is to spread hate, and they are obsessed with Lydia Millen.
They have noticed that this thread has started, and posted ‘There’s a thread started about her on Mumsnet AIBU now….the dark side have awoken’.
These are really horrible people.
Im pretty sure a few of them have already posted on this thread, you can see the toxicity in their posts.
This seems like such a lovely community, I’m sure you will see them for what they are and what they are trying to do xxx

I wonder if this thread has been started by her agent. She's getting a bit of media traction now so I guess it's best to ride that wave!

Beezknees · 26/11/2022 17:00

I'm working class and I've stayed at the Shard.

So you represent all working class then? My point is when an influencer is selling something they are aiming it at a specific group, demographic, class. If you’re selling ads to stay at The Savoy then in my opinion the target audience would not be working class.

You’re definitely the “be kind” brigade. Seems like you’re obsessed with them if you’re over there reading.

And why add kisses to the end of your post? Utterly bizarre.

And how is this related to selling ads for the Savoy being aimed at a certain group of people?
