To rehome cat because of pressure on marriage

I’ve posted about this before but I didn’t get many serious replies.

I have been married for nearly a year, and just after our wedding I adopted a cat from a charity. I did talk about this with DH first, there was some eye rolling and ‘if you must’ but it was good humoured.

Nearly a year on and it’s really difficult. The cat had fleas which bit DH, he was pretty annoyed about this. He really doesn’t like the cat, I mean, I knew he wasn’t really into animals but I misread dislike as actual neutrality.

The complaining about the cat is really getting to me, I feel like he’d be happier without the cat and me, tbh.

I am not sure what to do now.

@DumbleDorey - I mean the shit isn't the sole thing I hate. But being in someone's house and seeing an animal shitting is vile. Cats shitting in my garden is vile. But I actively avoid coming into to contact with cats as much as I can.

Then don’t go to a house with a cat if you loathe them that much. Seeing anyone shitting isn’t nice but I don’t tend to watch anyone shit and it’s a normal bodily function, no specie has any control over.

@DumbleDorey - I don't, trust me. Cats are the only animals where it seems an acceptable spectator sport. But I don't like them for many other reasons.

Well you don’t have to like them but to say they smell is not true! I’m not sure what you are getting at regarding the ‘spectator sport’ , I can only say I’ve encountered my cats poo a few times in the tray and neither times have I watched them or been remotely interested in watching them.

Cats do smell. All animals do.

Oh do shut up! So I’ve been nose-blind to cats for many years then? As we’ve only had our two for a few years and I’ve been to many houses previous to that who had cats and their cats never smelt. Even on house viewings where the occupants had a cat, it’s not something we could smell or notice until we saw the cat asleep in the house and this was BEFORE we adopted cats, so I’m pretty sure based on that I’m not nose-blind and cats don’t smell.

Not every smell is bad.

But no I really don't get this all cats smell rubbish, smell a cat when it's been out in the cold winter air, they smell devine.

One of my cats was super special and always smelt of baby powder on her forehead. Although that particular girl was hard to get close to as she was a very special pychotic naughty tortie. You diced with death going in for a kiss.
