Shamima Begum's mother

AddingUp · 24/11/2022 14:48

I read an article about Shamima Begum's mother in the Daily Mail. I am very much in the camp that Shamima Begum should come back to the UK and be trialed here as her crimes.

Anyway, the mother says how close she was with Shamima and how she misses her etc.

If I were Shamima Begum's mum and my daughter was not allowed into the UK, I would travel to the refugee camp to be with her. Or, I would take my daughter to Bangladesh just to be with her and not leave her on her own.

I don't understand why Shamima Begum's mum takes no action to support her daughter!

Youre being saucy, but you can feel empathy for how people end up in a situation or even feel none and still recognises that britain should be deal with their own criminals.

And yes, so many young boys in gangs and embroiled in knife crime are groomed into the life from very young ages, victims of sexual violence they'll never admit and thus continue the cycle over and over and over.

regardless she should be friends and prosecuted here. The creation of two tiered citizenship system which will disproportionately be used as a cudgel against ethnic minority britons is foul and should be condemned at every instance.

If I trusted the judges to give appropriate sentences (life in prison), no reductions for good behaviour, then yes, I'd see no problem having her back. Well, beyond the cost of imprisoning her, I wouldn't want to pay for her.

But her sentence will not reflect her actions or her future risk to others.

Therefore, in my view, I don't want to take the risk.

Actually, I would. Her being in prison poses a real risk of radicalising others.

How do you propose we would prevent that? Are you hoping she would be in solitary confinement? Or are you happy to risk others being radicalised and the risk being passed on to innocent people?

What sentence do you think is appropriate for her?

If she was a blue eyed blonde from a middle class family, with educated parents who knew how to deal with the press - the whole situation would have been viewed differently from day one. She would have been seen as a victim who needed to be rescued.

Fair point.
Off topic but...if the McCanns weren't white doctors, their daughter's disappearance would have gone unreported.

Livelovebehappy · 24/11/2022 23:48

Absolutely don’t want her back here. Ever. People should watch her first interviews with the media after she was tracked down, before she was ‘coached’ on what to say. She showed no remorse. It was only after she learnt from her lawyers what she should say, that she back tracked. I can’t believe she is still being given any publicity. Leave her to rot in a bed of her own making.

That's not what happened to Oxford born Jack Letts. He went to join ISIS and was stripped of his citizenship and his parents were charged with offences related to sending him money.

The people who don't lose their citizenship are those who manage to leave and sneak back into the country without being noticed. By the time they appear on our security services radar it's too late to do anything about them returning but they remain on watch lists and under surveillance.

caringcarer · 25/11/2022 00:08

She has Bangladeshi citizenship. Let her go back there and they decide what to do to her. Whatever it is she brought it upon herself. 1 single person who ran off knowingly to join ISIS is not more important than the safety of a nation. We don't put people to death in UK no matter what they do.

MassiveSaladWithChristmasTrimmings · 25/11/2022 00:10

Very very patronising to suggest that because she is a woman of colour she must be a victim of racism and didn't know what she was doing.

She went off, killing people of any colur, her own included. She was a fucking hairy child. She was almost 16 when she fucked off having first had her blood lust aroused by watching beheadings and planning her move.

She couldn't wait to marry, joined the morality women's police and wasn't "fazed" when she saw her first head, the implication being there were many others.

She said she had no regrets and now that she is stuck in no mind's land, has suddenly had a change of heart-even a five year old wouldn't believe it.

Bangladesh-also full of people of colour-won't take her-how racist of them!
Syria -also full of people of colour-won't take her-how racist of them!
England-full of many people of colour-don't want her-how racist of them.
She must be thanking her lucky stars she is a person of colour, as the racism card can be played by daft twats.

I hope she rots where she is. I wouldn't want her living on my road and I wouldn't want her children in my children's class. That is because she is an evil bitch and will always be an evil bitch who knows how to manipulate a certain type of gobshite.

She showed no mercy. She is merciless and a cringing coward now the pigeons have come home to roost.

Trafficked child, my arse. What the fuck next-she was kidnapped by aliens up on Todmorden Moror.

If her mother feels that strongly, she can go and join her. Ma should be hanging her head in shame, not hoping we will all feel a tear pricking when she tells us her blazer is where she left it-next to her collection of teddies and Enid Blyton, I suppose!

Her victims' coats are also hanging in rooms, never to be worn again.

Blinky21 · 25/11/2022 00:15

Her treatment is shaming for Britain, her baby died in a camp because Sajid Javed did nothing, I don't know how he lives with himself

Two others died whilst she was still enjoying herself as an ISIS enforcer, who should be shamed for the loss of those lives?

Wankytramphands · 25/11/2022 01:18

If its not her fault as she was "groomed" then all the other (mostly male) terrorists are not at fault either as they were all radicalised at some point too so actually let's let them all off poor loves they couldn't help it never mind that they blow up countless buildings killing and maiming 1000s never mind the public beheadings, child rape and kidnap never mind they stab shoot run over and murder innocent people never mind about all those children in schools and concerts they killed with no concern remorse or regret whatsoever not their fault of course because they were groomed fuck off shamima supporters you are almost as bad as them.

Jesst87 · 25/11/2022 01:24

I don't think she should come back. I have watched the government bring back people who were over there and another person that had lived over there while they were younger and got citizenship here said people like that don't change. They call them silent sleepers for a good reason.

This

Her father brought Shamima’s mother to the UK and only stayed a few years before going back to Bangladesh and taking a second wife. He has only visited the UK since then for a few months at a time.

Still doesn’t answer the question of why the poster wants Shamima’s mum to go Bangladesh. Especially given Bangladesh have said they would execute Shamima.

This and

She supported her husband whilst men were put in metal cages for days on public display, tortured had petrol chucked on them and set fire to. We are talking medieval barbaric treatment for human life at the highest level of depravity all in the name of religion and control.

I have no time for this, no sympathy whatsoever for her.

I consider her actions to leave the UK to support the Taliban equivalent to someone leaving the UK to support Hitler during WW2. She is a traitor and should NEVER be allowed to return here period.

I am disgusted at the press still reporting on this. They should look for more worthy causes to give publicity to. She is certainly not one of them.

Jack Letts actually did have dual nationality. Therefore Britain can LEGALLY strip citizenship, because it doesn't leave him stateless.

Jack Letts was 18 when he joined ISIS, not a child. travelled on his own passport, unaided

Aine Davis, Jihadi Paul was deported to Britain after being released from prison in Turkey. He was arrested when he got here

Yes!

The authorities know things about Shamima Begum that have not been reported publicly. That's why she is not allowed home. She can't be tried for her crimes in the UK as she didn't commit them here and without the evidence she wouldn't be charged accordingly. Bringing her home to trial would ultimately just lead to her being repatriated, leaving her free to restart her her terrorist activities within the UK.

@Quveas I'll save my sympathy for the innocent 15 years old and younger victims of the heinous Manchester Arena terrorist attacks. This hand wringing sympathy for her makes me sick.

Journalists and lawyers are travelling there.

Surely, nobody can be this naive!!!

I don't understand why Shamima Begum's mum takes no action to support her daughter!

How would anyone know what action her mother is taking. She is probably giving her a lot more support by being here. I can't see what help she can give by staying in the refugee camp with her - even if she were allowed to. It is easy to say what we would do in a terrible situation when we are as faraway from those circumstances as can be.

lollipoprainbow · 25/11/2022 08:00

I'd assume it's because she's not white that there is so much hatred for her. Of course she was trafficked. Any interviews that she gave showed her to be gullible. She was married off to someone who impregnated her several times. At least one of the girls who went with her was killed in one of the military actions. I can't imagine how what those girls thought and the reality of what they'd got themselves into must have felt. But over here we have the right wing press full of bile and hatred and of course brexity bollocks that whipped up hatred and was the complete reason for some people's leave vote.

What utter bollocks

'Begum fans' is just ridiculous. if that's the level of understanding and nuance, then the conversation is pointless

Brefugee · 25/11/2022 08:43

She deserves nothing

and the like. There is a thread in AIBU about a woman who murdered her sons' abuser and it's full of "sure I'd do anything for my kids"

But a trafficked, groomed non-white girl? Fuck her, right? she knew what she was doing she's a dirty terrorist and deserves to rot in hell. Right?

The lack of compassion and understanding here is astounding. And something else I've noticed in my travels around the web. The self-same people saying that a 15 year old Sharmina Begum knew exactly what she was doing, 15 year olds are old enough to know what's going on etc etc are the same people who bang on about how 15 year old Greta Thunberg knows nothing, how could she, she's a child, and she's being completely manipulated by the adults around her to set her up as a figurehead but she's not capable of thinking these things for herself.

And unlike a lot of these comparisons about hypocricy on the internet (and MN) that we often see, there is actual crossover here. It is, in this case, the exact same people spouting both lots of bullshit.
