That they've been gone over an hour

My DH took the DC out for a walk over an hour ago, said they would be half an hour DC are 7 and 10. We are in a rural location . DH hasn't taken his phone, helpfully, it's almost dark and no sign of them. I am a bit prone to anxiety but I'm so worried - why would they be so long? Why would he not have returned when it's getting dark?

Some horrendously cruel bitches in here today.

pinheadlarry · 21/11/2022 02:39

I think your "anxiety" is actually your mothers instinct, like a sixth sense,
you knew something happened but didnt know what
It shows youre very intune with everything

Sarah Everard was "just" walking.

So fuck off.

A comparison between this situation and Sarah Everard is not justified.

clockapp · 21/11/2022 05:27

@LikeAStar1994 that's a disgusting comparison. No comparison at all

Aside from the fact that there's no comparison at all she had her phone with her. What point are you making?

Her point was really clear - anything can happen when you're 'just walking'.

That does not make going for a walk doing something risky!

Gumreduction · 21/11/2022 07:07

What for me…. Was that as soon as they walked in… the Op updated mumsnet and then continued to post in the minutes after 😂

People that don't carry phones, that they own to fulfill the role of "mobile" phone are infuriating. If you don't want to be disturbed on your walk then stick it on silent and don't look at it. All arguments of "oh what did people do before phones" are stupid because phones exist now. Previously all manner of standard essentials didn't exist, but not existing 30 years ago doesn't preclude the item being an essential now.

My OH dad does this regularly, doesn't carry his phone with him, has some kind of minor emergency (he's 85) and then can't contact anyone, and can't be contacted. Which wigs his wife out no end.

Fact: mobile phones save lives every day. They are the most useful survival tool that has ever been available to the public

Christ.

some people really would have everyone locked up inside their house at all times so as to avoid all life and all risk.

(let's gloss over the fact that lots of murder victims are murdered in their own home. by their own partner)

Using this to point score, particulately in the context of the fact that it's not even a comparable scenario (she had her phone with her), is utterly despicable.

Geez OP - chill OUT

Probably having fun. Please please try to talk to your fears kindly so when they come back you can greet them with a cheery, "how was it?".

"Please try to talk to your fears kindly"

I miss Planet Earth.

If they were on their own I’d be worried. But they’re with your husband who is presumably a fully functioning adult who can make sensible decisions. So just have a cup of tea and enjoy a little more unexpected peace and quiet.

Exactly this!!

Like I said, 'have words' wasn't the best phrase. It was a conversation - that is it. English isn't my first language.

And whoever asked - yes it was a 20-30 minute walk that was planned. I think whatever I say I'm going to get called controlling so I'll probably leave this thread there but thanks for your thoughts and advice, it's always good to get a different perspective on a situation.

Not controlling just anxious & concerned.
DH should have taken his phone but he didn’t & I am sure he didn’t leave it at home on purpose.
Everyone got back safely & mostly in one piece so all is good on that side.
In future you’ll remind husband to take his phone when going on walks.
