I've googled and Googled

I'm a celebrity- what happens to the rats , frogs , snakes , lizards, water dragons , alligators etc AFTER the trials ?

Where do they go and what happens to them ?

There is a distinct lack of information on what happens to these animals after the trials .

I had heard they are culled as they cannot be released into the eco system.

There is absolutely no information available.

These are sentient creatures- I love rats , they are intelligent, affectionate, trainable, loving animals - yet I cannot find any info on what happens after these trials .

Why is that ?

Cheese is a bit too strong for me .

I don't eat eggs either . Or butter . Or mayo .

I drink wine . Hope that's ok .

Shouldn’t be allowed
Ask PETA what happens

stillvicarinatutu · 18/11/2022 01:23

Actually wine probably makes up for most of my diet 😂

I'm probably not a vegan . But the majority of my diet is veggie .

I do eat cottage cheese in a recipe . And ricotta in another. No meat though . Prefer veggie options . I'm not religious about not eating any animal products, but I steer clear of meat as I prefer the veggie recipes .

Not exactly what I was asking though .

So does the fact I eat a tablespoon of cottage cheese mean I shouldn't ask what happens to those animals ?

It just bothers me for some reason.

Look it’s just my opinion and you are welcome to ignore me!

And vegan wine tastes like piss so I’ll let you off on that one 😂

stillvicarinatutu · 18/11/2022 01:28

Almost as bad as alcohol free wine . I'm with you there .

If I had more time to shop and cook I could probably go vegan because I actually do prefer the alternatives taste wise .

I know I sound like a tree hugging lentil weaver but I want to know what happens to them and I cannot be the only one

You are not the only one OP. I detest this show, and second what a PP has said about how much stress these animals must be under during some of the trials, even without how they’re kept before and what happens to them after.

At some point enough people, or possibly ‘the right person’ will come out talking about how cruel it is, and then all the people watching will say ‘oh yes I never liked it either, how awful’ and it will all come to an end and our children will be horrified things like this were allowed in the name of entertaining the bored public. But we’re a way off yet.

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 18/11/2022 01:32

I did Veganuary a couple of years ago and whilst I didn’t miss meat that much I struggled without milk, cheese and chocolate, but I spent so much money that month! On the alternatives milk, chocolates etc. I otherwise enjoyed it but couldn’t commit long term

Storge · 18/11/2022 01:33

I understand your anger and disgust. Of course you're allowed to be repulsed by it. However, if you're not vegan, you're a hypocrite, claiming to care about animals yet contributing to animal cruelty. Just go vegan.

stillvicarinatutu · 18/11/2022 01:34

I can manage without milk , and without chocolate.

I eat a lot of houmous and breadsticks.

My recipes do have cottage cheese in and ricotta. Pasta . But generally I stick to veggie options and I love the plant based stuff in Aldi !

I get it . I am a hypocrite but something about using sentient creatures for this kind of cringe entertainment just gives me the heebie jeebies. I aren't completely vegan - it's an awful lot of effort to bypass all the animal byproducts. I work full time , I live alone , (could you guess !?😂) but I do try . I only usually eat once a day and I cook from scratch for that - so it's the veggie options in the Jamie Oliver book .....

That's great. Just cut out the remaining means that you use dairy in.

I think you're making excuses. I've been vegan for nearly 25 years, and found it easy back then. It's sooooo easy these days, I really don't think there are any valid reasons other than just not wanting to go vegan. Get some vegan cookbooks, join some online vegan groups (e.g. on Facebook), and you'll soon just click with it.

Killing animals for food Vs killing animals for entertainment. Not much difference to the animal. It's all cruel and needless.

What’s with all the name calling? OP has a question they would like answered.

You are doing far better than most OP. We need more people living life more considerately, if imperfectly. Keep doing what you are doing.

AllTheOtherNamesWereTaken · 18/11/2022 02:14

I don't watch the show because I feel so bad for the animals and insects. Surely lots of them get squashed and killed or injured during some if the trials too, with things like rats with somebody in a coffin etc. I wish more people thought or cared about them

tolerable · 18/11/2022 02:50

babe-they IS greencarded actors..you dunno theyre life stories cos they gotta be shrowded from the media...

LovelaceBiggWither · 18/11/2022 02:59

We've got fairly strong animal welfare laws here, especially around native animals. Nobody is going to train a snake for handling and then kill it at the end of the season. Crocodiles, there's no way they are being killed, they probably just go back to the croc farm or handlers who provided them. I'm not sure why a water dragon couldn't be released into the wild--those bastards are never friendly or tamed.

EmmaAgain22 · 18/11/2022 03:16

I imagine they are used for other shows
this trash is replicated across the globe

Carrie Bradshaw said "I stopped watching television when people started putting leeches in their pants".

Suzi888 · 18/11/2022 04:31

I don’t watch it.
As you are probably gathering humans are increasingly becoming more mindless, cruel, selfish, lazy little bastards. We will ultimately destroy our own planet, probably after a few wars over resources. Then thank fuck, either the planet will be absorbed by the sun or we will all be extinct. Until then the suffering will continue.

Allyouneedislunch · 17/11/2022 22:21

The show is absolute trash. Offer your thoughts regarding the animals here:

Thanks for the link- completed.

stillvicarinatutu · 18/11/2022 04:39

Everyone is "imagining " and guessing but there is absolutely no definitive answer to my question. They say what they do with the bugs . But avoid answering what happens to the other animals used .

There is an eco system in the jungle . You can't just pull up a coffin full of rats , and watch them scarper into that eco system. When this program first aired I watched a documentary and they showed that the camp is fumigated- basically killing most of the natural bugs that were there . Then I read that the animals that "escape" into that eco system cannot be allowed to live else it would cause a problem for that balance of nature - I think it mainly applied to the rats as those are the only animals that ran off when the z lister was pulled up .....the crocs and snakes seemed to be contained in tanks etc . I have written to offcom, itv, and googled and there is absolutely nothing to say what happens to these animals . I've
Logged complaints with offcom and rspca. The lack of info makes me very suspicious that what I'd read was true and that any animals that "escape" are swiftly culled .

That I'm not 100% vegan doesn't make me wonder that any less .

I try very hard to recycle, reuse, but second hand , and I do try to eat and shop responsibly. I'm that idiot that goes round the office taking stuff out the bin and putting it in the recycling. I realise this isn't important to everyone. But I've tried to get an answer and have drawn a blank.

If there is nothing unsavoury about the use of these animals - why don't itv just say that ?

If they were - why is there absolutely no information? There's lots about the animal welfare prior to the trials - nothing - absolutely nothing- abkut what happens to them after .

In past series animals were let go into the surrounding jungle . This would upset the natural eco system which they are not allowed to do .
I heard they were gassed . But I can find nothing at all now . If there is absolutely nothing to hide - why not a statement? There is nothing other than they are bred for pet food etc .

But who did you hear this from.
like you’ve continually said you don’t actually no what happens to them.

stillvicarinatutu · 18/11/2022 04:46

I read this somewhere a long while ago

And there is no info confirming or more importantly- denying that claim .

I don't know because there is no openness from itv about what does actually happen . I would imagine if it's all wholesome family fun they'd be quick to refute any animal cruelty or culling and yet they stay very very silent .

They used to say that Britain is a nation of animal lovers, but that is bullshit. I'm thinking of the hideous things that happened during the foot and mouth epidemic, that pet alpaca they killed recently and all the rest of it. While I was visiting the UK some cook with a TV program was about to have his children help or watch him kill ducks and/or chickens and it looked as if they were going to show it on TV. I turned it off.

Now they are slaughtering animals in a way to make them really suffer and people are okay with it.

I live in the US and there are laws about animal cruelty for entertainment.
