I've googled and Googled

I'm a celebrity- what happens to the rats , frogs , snakes , lizards, water dragons , alligators etc AFTER the trials ?

Where do they go and what happens to them ?

There is a distinct lack of information on what happens to these animals after the trials .

I had heard they are culled as they cannot be released into the eco system.

There is absolutely no information available.

These are sentient creatures- I love rats , they are intelligent, affectionate, trainable, loving animals - yet I cannot find any info on what happens after these trials .

Why is that ?

The rats and snakes etc surely must be pets/ show animals and used again and again?

I won’t watch it because of the awful way they treat animals and the utter disregard for animal or insect life.

I am vegan and had pet rats for many years so I’m really hoping the rats aren’t just killed after?!

If they were - why is there absolutely no information? There's lots about the animal welfare prior to the trials - nothing - absolutely nothing- abkut what happens to them after .

In past series animals were let go into the surrounding jungle . This would upset the natural eco system which they are not allowed to do .
I heard they were gassed . But I can find nothing at all now . If there is absolutely nothing to hide - why not a statement? There is nothing other than they are bred for pet food etc .

If you care so much, why haven’t you actually done anything re finding out, though? Freedom of Information request, write to the RSPCA, write to DEFRA…why have you just ‘Googled and Googled’?

No .
I complained to ofcom .
I've
Signed the rspca page on this subject.

Did one of the contestants years ago not skin and cook one and everyone was in uproar about it.

Violashift · 17/11/2022 23:32

I agree OP

FeelWellEnoughToTellYou · 17/11/2022 23:36

OP i think your point is completely valid. Vegetarians have just as much right to protest against cruelty as vegans.

Yep . The rat got cooked .

Runnerduck34 · 17/11/2022 23:38

The information should be made available.
My DD said she'd read somewhere that the snakes were trained and are used to being handled so if that's true they are unlikely to cull them afterwards.

HeddaGarbled · 17/11/2022 23:44

It bothers me more that people watch other people being subjected to physical and psychological abuse for entertainment.

MarieKlepto · 17/11/2022 23:45

I can't stand I'm A Celeb because of this. Insects squished, rodents and reptiles traumatised, meat eaters baulking at eating things because it's not the acceptable part of a killed animal. All good fun though because someone from the telly is on it.

Luredbyapomegranate · 17/11/2022 23:53

Just write to the channel or production company and ask them.

They will have a policy based on their editorial guidelines

FeelWellEnoughToTellYou · 17/11/2022 23:10

Great Post. Shame you are not vegan though, we could do with more like you on our side!

No, I’m too selfish, but I do very much own that I contribute to a barbaric industry.

Just ask the production company. Don’t be such a drama Queen

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 17/11/2022 23:56

stillvicarinatutu · 17/11/2022 23:16

So my point isn't valid because I'm vegetarian but not vegan ?

I’d say the dairy industry is just as cruel, if not crueller than the meat industry so personally I do still think you can’t reap the benefits of that industry and simultaneously complain that other don’t care about bugs being squashed.

Yes they went to court iver it, I’m sure!

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 17/11/2022 23:59

A quick Google tells us that in Oz they work with the RSPCA and specialist licensed companies who can handle animals. No idea what happens to them afterwards but presumably the company just take them back where they came from? Obviously not the mealworms etc

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 18/11/2022 00:00

Can you even do an FOI to ITV? It’s not a public company is it? (Happy to be proven wrong)

stillvicarinatutu · 18/11/2022 00:02

Lydia

Did you miss my post where i said I do not use milk but I do use oat milk or almond milk?

I've asked itv.

Got nothing . You think the production company will reply ? Or shall I just ask any and dec eh ?

So I googled it…

What happens to the animals in Bushtucker trials?

The animals who take part in the Bushtuker trial episodes are reportedly kept in special enclosures which are approved by the local authorities.

Reported by Sky News in 2021, they are kept in “temperature controlled” enclosures which meet the animal’s needs, and are monitored by a specialist animal team, who remain on set at all times. Whilst the insects used in trials are released using “grate systems”.

After taking part in the trials, ITV said the insects are: “donated to local wildlife sanctuaries, trusts and zoos for their exotic animal and bird feed after filming.”

I remember the news covering it when RSPCA raised concerns a few years ago.

But there is no info on the animals . The rats . The snakes . The alligators. The sea dragons . Nothing . All the info is about BEFORE they are used and absolutely nothing after .

No but why would they just kill them?

Also that info is only from when they did the TV in Wales and animal restrictions are different to Australia, so it may already be outdated info!
