The weird stuff about Mcd’s

Crimboisonitsway · 17/11/2022 13:00

Anyone else think it’s just odd food at McDonald’s?
It tastes so bloody good…like magic good…what is in the mayo type sauce etc 🤷🏻‍♀️
But…why does it fill you up, then an hour later you’re hungry again etc?
For example, Burger King is good also, but it proper fills me up and feels like proper food, Mcds doesn’t but it tastes so good 😫

Some of us like meat and the taste

@Dixiechickonhols shame you haven't taught her not to be so judgemental though

Fwiw I eat McDonald’s. It’s only same as when I worked in a sausage factory and didn’t eat sausages for ages. She sees kitchen/how food is prepared and doesn’t want it.

Strugglingtodomybest · 17/11/2022 18:40

I'm always stuffed after a McDonald's. Maybe it's the drink? I never normally have so much to drink with a meal.

I absolutely love a quarter pounder with cheese meal. And yet before kids, I hated McDonald's and wouldn't eat from there. How things change!

cakewench · 17/11/2022 18:44

I will admit to being the sort who has a massive Mumsnet salad most evenings (with a range of veg and some kind of lean meat) and I don't have meals at McD's because I am never full from them. I'd be roaming the kitchen for a top-up an hour later if I had it for dinner. I need a lot of fibre from veg and protein to keep me going.

I didn’t say they couldn’t?

onlythreenow · 17/11/2022 18:55

If you eat whole foods, like porridge oats/ nuts/ seeds for example, the sugar isn't as readily available - your body has to break them down to get to the nutrients, so it takes longer, and sits in your stomach/ digestive system for longer.

I eat porridge for breakfast every day - doesn't stop me feeling hungry by mid-morning, whereas a McDs breakfast fills me up for the whole morning.

Laneyy · 17/11/2022 18:58

McDonald's is the remedy for the shits nothing clogs me up quite so bad 🤣

Sillybanana · 17/11/2022 19:23

Agree I’m always ravenous an hour later! It’s tasty but doesn’t fill me up atall like a proper meal

mydogisthebest · 17/11/2022 19:33

Doesn't taste good to me. Disgusting chips which are often soggy and almost always far too salty.

Their milkshakes used to be nice but they are not now.

FelixDoublyDelicious · 17/11/2022 19:45

McDs completely ruins my digestion. Cannot eat it anymore as it totally fucks me up. Bloat, constipation - bleurgh
If I had a choice it would be Burger King - although we now have a Wendy's in our town.
But, I have not eaten Wendy's since I was about 19 (very long time ago) so I can't comment now, but it was ace then.
Most takeaways so disappointing, so don't waste our money

aintnothinbutagstring · 17/11/2022 20:06

Can't believe some people or their DHs eat more than one meal or multiple burgers in one sitting at McDonald's - that's pretty greedy.

It’s all down to MSG. The same additive that’s in Indian/Chinese food.

McDonalds doesn't have MSG in it
MSG is just a flavour enhancer, I use it in home cooking sometimes

wherearebeefandonioncrisps · 17/11/2022 21:07

It does make you wonder why so many food restrictive children ( and young adults) will only eat this type of food.

Fairislefandango · 17/11/2022 21:25

I'm sure I read something that said it's not just the temporary sugar spike from junk food that makes you get hungry again more quickly, it's that it doesn't contain enough of the nutrients your body needs, so your hunger is triggered because you're still seeking those nutrients. That might be bollocks though Grin

Fairislefandango · 17/11/2022 21:28

How on earth can it all be down to MSG? Not all junk food has MSG. And according to their website none of McDonald's food in the UK contains it.

FancyFanny · 17/11/2022 22:08

There's nothing special in MacDonald's food that is any different to other food of that sort. Burger King and similar restaurants will have a similar nutrient and ingredient profile. Fries are just potatoes fried in oil wherever you buy them- high in carbs and fat. The bread is highly processed white bread and the beef is just beef - but fairly high in saturated fat. Add to that some processed cheese- high in salt and fat, some mayonnaise- again salty and oily, ketchup and a token bit of onion, pickles lettuce and tomato. Anyone saying MacDonalds gives them whatever effects but Burger King doesn't ????

MugginsOverEre · 17/11/2022 23:00

You know what? I don't actually give a shit what's in it to make me want more, or that makes me hungry not long after. I like it. It's not part of a healthy balanced diet by any stretch if the imagination. It's cheap, tasty (to me) food that is on the same level as a bag of Haribos or a slice of cream cake. I eat it for a treat (omg that sweet curry sauce and nuggets!) but it's not a decent meal.

The problem is, foods like that can be a bit... not exactly addictive, but can encourage kids to become fussy wee shites who won't eat anything other than battered chicken meals. You gotta watch for that and nip it in the bud.

If you want it, have it but do it in moderation. I love to cook healthy meals from scratch most of the time but if the family and I are in the town (hour away from rural village) then Maccy's or KFC are a given.

Changemaname1 · 17/11/2022 23:03

Full of sugar maybe ?

I bloody love a McDonald's but am starving again fairly soon !

catsonahottinroof · 17/11/2022 23:10

It's definitely different to other burger places like Burger King with the not leaving you feeling full feeling - I still think it's down to the weird bread, strange texture of meat (all mushed up) even though their website says it's all just 100% meat, and the chips being really lightweight too.

ALongHardWinter · 05/04/2023 23:26

Yes,I swear they put crack cocaine in the sauces!

Foxy55 · 10/12/2023 17:52

Ultraprocessed rubbish and bad for your body. The processing (adding lots of chemicals) is what makes it get digested too quickly and that's why you are hungry after an hour.
it's basically not good for your body for your

ANightingale · 10/12/2023 18:14

BK bacon double cheeseburger is lovely but seems to lie in my stomach for about 12 hours after eating. I don't eat McDonalds because I hate the way they throw up Drive Thru restaurants on every random bit of land near a main road.

Dutch1e · 10/12/2023 18:20

It's funny isn't it. I'm simultaneously starving and bloated-full an hour after eating McD.

I reckon it's an evil combo of too many calories while also feeling undernourished (so craving 'proper food').

Still love a bit of junk food every so often though.

ButterCupPie · 10/12/2023 18:26

Since I gave up smoking I can't eat MacDonalds Big Macs as I don't like the taste any more. But I still like KFC or even better the spicy wings they sell in the small fried chicken shops.
