The weird stuff about Mcd’s

Crimboisonitsway · 17/11/2022 13:00

Anyone else think it’s just odd food at McDonald’s?
It tastes so bloody good…like magic good…what is in the mayo type sauce etc 🤷🏻‍♀️
But…why does it fill you up, then an hour later you’re hungry again etc?
For example, Burger King is good also, but it proper fills me up and feels like proper food, Mcds doesn’t but it tastes so good 😫

The 'weird' stuff about macdonalds to me js that they market 'happy meals' to children with little toys inside and it's all part of this giant propaganda we've been, well, fed since a young age to make us think that these cows lived a happy life and died happily or 'humanely'.

And as adults we still go into these places and buy this shit and never truly connect with what (no, tbf, with WHO) we are eating because we've been lied to our whole lives. Trained not to look and not to ask questions.

It doesn't fill us up for long because it's not supposed to. It doesn't fill us up for long fir the same reason there companies enslave, torture and kill billions of animals every year. And for the same reason they tell lies to us about it - profit.

They aren't called 'happy ingredients'. Happy meals come with a toy to keep the child happy during the meal.

I am quite jealous of people who enjoy a maccys. I love junk food but thier stuff tastes really horrible to me.

FormerCarer · 17/11/2022 16:28

The difference is Burger King is actually real meat whereas Maccy D's burgers are 100% recycled wet cardboard.

McDonalds use real meat too, though I'm now craving a Whopper.

It's all the McChemicals and McCrap, isn't it? Satisfies the brain for a while by tasting nice, but doesn't have much nutritional content. I try not to eat McD if I can help it, for that reason. BK fills me up more for some reason.

I had one of the McBreakfast McMuffin things once, and it was absolutely vile.

polio999 · 17/11/2022 16:37

It's partly why fast food causes so many people to gain weight - they then crave another high sugar snack to raise blood sugar, it crashes again an hour later, etc etc
Certain foods release energy slowly, so won't make you feel hungry after eating them and will keep you full up all day

That is true but the big myth is that eating healthy will stop cravings. Simply because food and cravings are much more complex than experts can grasp. It is often psychological too.

polio999 · 17/11/2022 16:40

One day he came back with about 200 burger buns. MacDonalds burger buns.
We froze them and mum intended on using them for meals, packed lunches and BBQs etc. Nope. They were rank. So unbelievably sweet that they only worked with MacDonalds patties. Trying to make a Dairylea sandwich or a ham roll was disgusting. That's when I learned that MacDonalds bread isn't edible unless it's served there

I recall reading that their burger buns were so sweet at a time they legally had to be classed as cakes so mcds had to make a few tweeks to stop this.

Doris86 · 17/11/2022 16:43

Mcdonalds burgers are very small in comparison to Burger King ones. That’s why they don’t tend to leave you feeling so full.

'It's not even food!! Nuts and seeds are far more nutritious!'

It's all very well you saying that but I had a cashew and two sunflower seeds and I was stuffed for a fortnight.

Like a PP, I cook from scratch most of the time but I bloody love a McDonalds. And yes, I do know where it comes from, not everyone who eats there is somehow completely ignorant about the origins of food. In fact, I'd argue that their ethical standards (UPF aside, but if you're going to McDs then you know you're eating UPFs) are higher than many places: their beef is British/Irish so subject to the welfare standards of those countries, their bacon, sausage and burger meat is RSPCA assured, their eggs are free-range, their milk organic. That's a hell of a lot better than most places. Of course, that assumes you eat meat, which I'm happy to when it's ethically produced.

Greeneyegirl · 17/11/2022 16:50

Im actually the opposite and it fills me up loads. I had one for lunch Saturday and didnt have dinner. It might be because im proper piggy and have a large chicken nugget meal and a bacon cheeseburger

bringincrazyback · 17/11/2022 16:56

Watch 'Supersize Me', if you haven't already. It's quite an eye-opener.

kateandme · 17/11/2022 16:57

Don't worry about it.weve already had the earshot replies.heaben forbid we just accept McDonald's are fucking fabulous.and it's perfectly ok to crave food within a millisecond.and not hate ourselves because it's OBVIOUSLY made by evil and of of of of of 10 billion tortured cows!
It's food.its good.they are genious as they make food that allows you to have more glorious food later. Not devil's because how dare we want more food.horror of horrors our bodies dare feel hunger.and not be able to restrict ourselves for as long as possible on a rice cake.bastards.

HunBabesSweetieVom · 17/11/2022 17:01

It fills me up. I eat hardly any meat through choice and cook from scratch but offer me a maccy d and I'm right in there ,

Snoozer11 · 17/11/2022 17:01

You won't get a lot of honest answers on mumsnet, where the posters are stuffed after eating an ice cube with a couple of slices of cucumber. That kind of performative dainty-ness is rife here.

The only times I have a McDonald's are when I'm away for work and need something quick and cheap before bed. I don't think I would ever choose to have one as a proper meal.

I read the carrots in the veggie burgers are wripped from the ground without permission then kept in crates stacked on top of each other!for days.amd sprayed violently with water.and made to run along a conveyer belt for sorting.and if they don't look good enough they are cut up for the fruit bags.😫

polio999 · 17/11/2022 17:03

Watch 'Supersize Me', if you haven't already. It's quite an eye-opener

it's not really though, it's misleading. If you ate nothing except fruit or vegetables for a month your body would not perform well either.

FancyFanny · 17/11/2022 17:23

thelobsterquadrille · 17/11/2022 13:28

I'm always stuffed for ages after a McDonald's. If I have one for lunch I don't tend to need any tea.

Same here! And probably just as well because the amount of calories in the food- especially if you have a decent sized burger like a big Mac etc and regular fries, is much more than most people require at a main meal. I can't eat another big meal after eating MacDs- tea would just be a light snack!

As a dairy free vegetarian I can confirm my body does very well on just fruit and veg.

The ingredients in the m plant (ignoring the meat) are way more UPF

What do you mean “ignoring the meat”?

The ingredients in a McPlant if you ignore the meat are identical to the ingredients in any other burger. Bun, lettuce, onion, mustard, ketchup, “cheese”.

McPlant patties are made by Beyond Burger, and the ingredients are pretty transparent.
Water, pea protein* (16%), canola oil, coconut oil,
rice protein, flavouring, stabilizer (methylcellulose),
potato starch, apple extract, colour (beetroot red),
maltodextrin, pomegranate extract, salt,
potassium salt, concentrated lemon juice, maize
vinegar, carrot powder, emulsifier (sunflower
lecithin).
There’s nothing particularly objectionable there.

DWMoosmum · 17/11/2022 17:32

Full of MSG, salt, fat and sugar. Your tastebuds literally crave more once you've tasted it, same as all fast food and takeaways.

Dixiechickonhols · 17/11/2022 17:36

Teen dc has started working there pt, she entertains us with stories from drive thru. She’s been shocked by how much many people order - lots of men order a burger meal and 20 nuggets. Numerous complaints the 20 nuggets doesn’t come as a meal. She won’t eat it declines the free meal on shift.

guidedbythelightt · 17/11/2022 17:36

There is a magic ingredient. It's called shitloads of salt.

As a dairy free vegetarian I can confirm my body does very well on just fruit and veg.

Presumably you eat things like pulses, grains, and nuts too though? I would think that just fruit and veg wouldn't contain enough protein? My DS would prefer not to eat meat but is allergic to most vegetarian and vegan protein sources and his dietician (a vegetarian herself, so not pro meat) advised that it would be unwise for him to rely on a meatless diet for this reason.

wherearebeefandonioncrisps · 17/11/2022 17:50

There was a programme not long ago, I d like to name a name but daren't in case I'm wrong, where they looked at fatty foods like this , including fish fingers, shocked nuggets/dippers and other coated foods, and the conclusion was that high fat foods have a dopamine effect.

This has translated into so many 'food sensory ' issues eg child won't eat plain chicken , only if coated in batter or breadcrumbs.

healthadvice123 · 17/11/2022 18:20

@Dixiechickonhols shame you haven't taught her not to be so judgemental though

I’m not a huge fan of nuts, so rarely eat them, I don’t mind the odd walnut. Legumes, grains etc are classed as vegetables, pulses are high in fibre but only count as one portion (no matter the variety) due to their limited nutrient content. I was a fulltime professional sportsman for over ten years, being a vegetarian was just fine.

healthadvice123 · 17/11/2022 18:23

@Sarahcoggles KFC here id awful.
