would you quit Amazon prime because of it?
YABU= you have/will quit Amazon prime because of this
YANBU = you will not quit.

I don't need a much larger music catalogue!!
I only want to hear some favourite song I choose.
I used to use amazon to play nursery song for my 3 years old DC who already like to choose songs.

I already have a google dot, it was a gift, but I can't play songs on demand.
so I bought a kid echo because of it last year.
now I can't do this anymore!!
The kid echo can do nothing now!
really angry.

mostly I like amazon prime for the next-day delivery and the music.
I am not using other things.

I am thinking to quit Amazon prime. saving £9 per month!

I am not very into song listening but would like to know if other companies with a reasonable price for on-demand songs. I use it mainly for nursery songs. lol
and able to download some songs for offline use, ie in underground.
Thanks

No, that's my point. I was getting it for free with my prime, and it did exactly what I wanted, but now it doesn't, and I'm certainly not paying a monthly cost to get it back.

Ah ok
When it comes to anything free, I’m never complacent!

True, but there is a difference between "free" and included in the cost of something else.

etulosba · 19/11/2022 17:45

If it helps, I have just discovered that an old iPad I have with the Amazon Music app on still works in the pre update way.

For how long, who knows?

True, but there is a difference between "free" and included in the cost of something else.

Not if it is explicitly stated in the contract that a particular feature is offered in adjunct to the core service you are purchasing as a benefit that can be amended or indeed even pulled at any time.

which it was

Gumreduction · 19/11/2022 19:00

You honestly think Amazon legal department didn’t give this the once over before making public? 😂

I am sure they did, and I am sure they are well within their legal rights. But sure I am also well within my legal rights to moan about it on mumsnet 😄

Notanotherwindow · 19/11/2022 19:26

Oh I'm sure I won't get it, I just want to to waste their time and piss them off. Turn about is fair play after all.

DdraigGoch · 19/11/2022 21:27

Gumreduction · 19/11/2022 08:37

But this would have been explicitly stated in the terms and conditions - that the service is subject to change in terms of what is offered on the platform!!!!

Yes, I'm sure that they've covered their arses in the small print.

There's a reason that it's called "small print" though, it's because it usually gets printed as small as possible to hide things that they don't want you to know. Using that to completely mess up your offering overnight makes them twats as far as I'm concerned. No problem though, £89 is better in my pocket than in theirs.

DdraigGoch · 19/11/2022 21:31

Gumreduction · 19/11/2022 10:58

The music catalogue available has increased from 2 million to the entire back catalogue. More than 100 million

I don't want 100 million songs. I was quite happy with the few hundred I did listen to, played in the order I wanted.

DdraigGoch · 19/11/2022 21:32

CaptaNoctem · 19/11/2022 11:40

That is what they are counting on!

Most people will just seethe quietly but continue to pay the £8.99 a month for the "free delivery" and TV.

Prime is rarely next day for me, and if it is it's always early evening. I am happy to wait 3 days for non-Prime free delivery.

Not to mention those who really cave into the blackmail and find themselves forking out for Unlimited.

DdraigGoch · 19/11/2022 21:36

It's annoying that you can't have a playlist of your child’s favourite songs, that they can ask to play through Alexa. I wouldn't have ordered an echo if I'd known.

Likewise, if I'd known that they'd do this I'd have gone for one of the competing smart speakers. Presumably they don't all start wittering "by the way, I can also..." when asked to perform a simple task.

NippyWoowoo · 19/11/2022 21:52

Gumreduction · 19/11/2022 15:33

And then 5 yourself

so you were paying a monthly premium just for 7 songs?

Why are you so annoying? Are you sleeping with Jeff? Are you Jeff?

People can complain about a service, you are looking for a fight.

Go fuck Jeff.

inappropriateraspberry · 19/11/2022 22:56

@Gumreduction We all know they are within their rights to change how it works, and we are within our rights to complain.
Individually, of course our dislike of the changes are nothing, but it appears that many people aren't happy with the so called 'improvements,' and Amazon may well end up losing Prime customers because of it.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it comes to mind. I can't download playlists to listen offline, I can't play a straightforward album or just one track. It has now become a glorified radio station, with little customisation or usefulness.

Doingtheboxerbeat · 19/11/2022 23:31

Literally just cancelled YouTube music for this. I carefully downloaded my music into categories - took ages and they have dicked around with them 🤬 .

I'll keep my £9.99 a month and suffer the ads.

AllLopsided · 19/11/2022 23:59

I agree it's rubbish. It's particularly rubbish for classical music. Who wants to listen to a symphony, oratorio or opera with the tracks out of order, or interspersed with tracks from another work?

We have Amazon prime and use it enough for deliveries to justify it so won't cancel. DH had a separate subscription to Amazon music which I used to piggyback on. We actually cancelled that due to a problem with the bank card (DH has a bank account that's not in his country of residence because he's a cross-border worker). He had a lot of frustrating 'chats' with Amazon about it with no solution. When we cancelled it I bought the two albums and 5 tracks that I listen to most for a total of less than £15 on iTunes. I still have plenty of stuff on there anyway. So for the cost of two months' subscription I've got the things I really want forever. Music streaming is a rip off, I've decided, though I guess it depends how you listen. Sounds like you too might be better spending on a few chosen albums to own, OP.

I don't think iTunes is infallible though - some albums I downloaded or copied from CD ages ago have disappeared from my library during various changes of computer/back up drive over the years.

DuchessDandelion · 20/11/2022 01:18

The point is that Amazon Prime music was a great alternative to Spotify. Now, I'm paying for the privilege of the (virtually*) same service I get with a free Spotify account.

*I don't think amazon have introduced ads at twice the volume...yet.

taliaG · 20/11/2022 02:47

It's not bloody "free" if you have to pay money to access it is it? It's part of the package that you're paying for and you don't get a discount if you don't use it.

I'm sure they're legally within their rights to do what they have done. but like I say, if they piss off enough of their customers then it's a stupid business decision.

I wouldn't pay for prime for deliveries alone. It's not worth it.

I paid for the package of delivery, prime reading, TV and music. I rarely read the books or watch the included TV. I have other TV subs that are better.

Like others, I don't need access to millions of songs and couldn't justify paying for a separate music sub.

I was happy with the small selection that I could play and repeat at will through Alexa.

Because of having free delivery, I buy more things on a whim from Amazon. So they'll be losing out even more.

I have never responded to any poster saying they don’t like it. And leaving it at that. Of course you can like or dislike what the hell you like.

My point has been to respond to those saying they have complained to Amazon to say that it contravenes what they signed up to (it doesn’t), or to post that Amazon have reneged on terms and conditions (they haven’t).

Is it disappointing? Yes
Did you Amazon do anything wrong? No

Fenneloup · 20/11/2022 07:58

Mine says previously downloaded songs are no longer available. But where are all the mp3s I bought from amazon in the past?

inappropriateraspberry · 20/11/2022 09:07

@Gumreduction I don't think anyone has claimed it contravenes what they signed for, but it's quite misleading to change it in such a way that it is now unusable for many, and people have bought Amazon devices (recently) for specific reasons that now don't work. They are perfectly within their rights to complain that they do not now serve the purpose they were intended for.

I didnt say prime music was free

taliaG · 20/11/2022 11:40

No it was to gunreduction, sorry.

Gumreduction · 20/11/2022 15:58

I never ever said it was “free”.

i said it was listed as a benefit rather than the core service. And the benefit can be withdrawn or amended at any time, and the consumer can cancel their subscription if they so wish.

GelatoQueen · 20/11/2022 16:28

For me the prime music offering was a bit of an extra that made my Amazon prime membership better value. I actually think Prime is a bit shit really - there's nothing really I watch (I have Disney+), the music service has gone down the pan (am considering paying for apple music instead), the Morrisons grocery service was good 2 years ago but it now awful and I don't use it and frankly most of the stuff available via prime is same price / cheaper elsewhere and there is less and less I need the next day.
