would you quit Amazon prime because of it?
YABU= you have/will quit Amazon prime because of this
YANBU = you will not quit.

I don't need a much larger music catalogue!!
I only want to hear some favourite song I choose.
I used to use amazon to play nursery song for my 3 years old DC who already like to choose songs.

I already have a google dot, it was a gift, but I can't play songs on demand.
so I bought a kid echo because of it last year.
now I can't do this anymore!!
The kid echo can do nothing now!
really angry.

mostly I like amazon prime for the next-day delivery and the music.
I am not using other things.

I am thinking to quit Amazon prime. saving £9 per month!

I am not very into song listening but would like to know if other companies with a reasonable price for on-demand songs. I use it mainly for nursery songs. lol
and able to download some songs for offline use, ie in underground.
Thanks

Has anyone else found that prime tv also now charge extra for a lot of the films and shows they have? Not sure if it's because I now live in Europe but it's driving me mad

taliaG · 17/11/2022 05:59

The issue is that they've changed the service they are offering and made it worse, whilst advertising it as an improvement. So it's not really a surprise that people are pissed off about that.

My daughters' are so cross. They want to be able to skip, shuffle, etc. Is there a reasonable alternative?

Spotify, Alexa will play my Spotify tracks

Yes, this, and all I seem to see free are made for TV really bad movies now

I don't understand the outrage. Maybe it's a mindset thing? I am early 20s so am used to premium subscription services...

Amazon do offer the features you want - it's bundled in their unlimited package so you have to pay extra to upgrade now.

Which isn't that unusual. As far as I'm aware, Spotify do the same thing with their premium subscription where you can select individual songs without shuffle.

It's just a standard subscription model at this point

I agree

ScarlettSunset · 17/11/2022 06:38

I personally wouldn't quite because of it, but that's because that's not why I use prime. If it's a major reason why you have it and now you can't use it, then yes, definitely cancel and tell them why.

Chihuahuapower · 17/11/2022 06:45

Have you thought of a yoto player? I have one for my 2 year old and use it all the time to play her favoutite songs and stories.

Feel free to message me if you have questions about them (I'm a superfan 😂)

I also have a discount link too

mummyh2016 · 17/11/2022 06:53

Same! I used to pay for Amazon music unlimited but cancelled it when I was on maternity leave. I pick up my first back to work wage the end of this month so was going to sign back up. Out of principle I'm going to Spotify instead. It's a pisstake.

QuebecBagnet · 17/11/2022 06:58

I’ve had Prime for ever. Looked at prime music on day 1 and thought it was rubbish and never used it. Always had Spotify. For me it’s a delivery service and tv channel.

Namechangeforthis88 · 17/11/2022 07:14

I cancelled prime a few weeks ago. Hardly ever find something I want to watch on Prime video, on the rare occasion we do it costs extra and I try to have Amazon delivery only as a last resort anyway. I feel a little queasy to think I've been lining Jeff Bezos' pockets for no real benefit to me.

UthredofBattenberg · 17/11/2022 07:29

I didn't use the free amazon music, basically because the song I wanted was never available. That seems to have changed now as they've expanded their catalogue (2 million to 100 million I think?)

So now if I ask it to play a song, it does. It then plays similar songs afterwards of that genre. That doesn't bother me if I don't want to listen, I turn it it.

If people have bought an album and it now won't let you play in order, that must be extremely annoying.

The change works for me. I'm obviously in the minority here, but I didn't use it before as every time I asked for a song it was only available through amazon music at an additional cost. Now I'm more likely to get the song 🤷‍♀️

Unless I'm missing something and Alexa has signed me up to something additional because of an errant yes!

SquirrelSoShiny · 17/11/2022 02:41

I'm not trying to be stupid but what has actually changed? I tend to play the same song on repeat or an amazon playlist so I'm not clear what has changed.

I would ask it play a band I like.

It would play one of their tunes and then think, sod that, I am going to play other music that I think is similar to that band.

And if I ask it to play a song, it may play that song, or now it may not. Just a similar song.

Or if I ask it to play an album, it would play one of those songs from that album and then play other random songs. From other albums.

NippyWoowoo · 17/11/2022 08:20

I just live chatted amazon to ask, and they said that if you request a specific song, it will play that first, but then shuffle similar songs in after that first song.

They are wrong.

L1ttledrummergirl · 17/11/2022 08:23

Yep. Alexa has pissed us off here as well. It's the shuffle and skip functions going thats done it for us. We play board games a couple of times a week and have all put songs we like into a playlist with several hundred songs which we used to shuffle and have in the background. We could skip through some we didn't like if the person that added them was away. Now we get all sorts of random shit or we have to listen to the same tracks each time. It's crap.

So is this just if you ask it to play songs using Alexa/voice control? Can you still play a specific song by pressing the play button against it in the app?

There used to be a 'free' selection of songs, but then the rest of music you had to have a separate subscription for.

Now they've made the free selection like Spotify where it's a shuffle and you can only skip once. Which I get that it makes it like some other subscriptions, but the point is that they did it differently and now that they've made it like Spotify, it's annoyed customers who can cancel their prime and just pay for Spotify instead if they want that.

So not a good move for Amazon. Like any business, not being like every other subscription service is what brings you the customers.

I'm still very old school though, so just download my music like we did back in the 90s 😜

I guess I'll find out when my free trial ends!
As I said in my previous post, I don't use it that much so can't imagine I'll find it that annoying.

(also old school with cassettes and CDs, and CDs ripped to mp3. Only a couple of vinyl albums but nothing to play them on sadly)

BungleandGeorge · 17/11/2022 08:59

I agree the tv has gone down hill. I pay more for my music subscription than for the whole of Amazon prime though so it’s probably not sustainable at that price

BamBamBilla · 17/11/2022 09:31

@NickEccles What you're talking about is piracy so that's why most people in this thread have gone down the subscription service but they're just a bit miffed when the company has now changed their service not realising that is why they subscribed to.

Surely only the Napster part of their post was piracy? Keeping downloads which you've legitimately bought, or digitalising CDs or tapes you've bought surely isn't? Pretty sure it was illegal back when people used to copy tapes, or copy CDs to tape and possibly in the early days or being able to rip CDs but I don't think it is now if its for your own use. Heck when you buy a CD from amazon you often get the mp3 version available to download so you don't have to rip the CD to get a digital version.

Namenic · 17/11/2022 09:56

@BamBamBilla - I dunno. What happens if you record the radio and then play back the recording? I mean - people used to do that for cassette tapes and mini discs. Or recording tv shows or movies on your set top box. I actually buy the dvd/cd then put it on my phone or computer.

itunes was groundbreaking because in the past some songs would only be in albums, so u would have to buy the whole thing for 1 or 2 songs. With iTunes you could buy just what you want and listen to it when you like. I believe Napster helped this model being created (it pushed the big companies to come up with a better model). Personally I think iTunes was better than subscription - because once you buy it, you are in charge of when you listen to it. But beware of proprietary formats - if you downloaded a movie or song in a format where only the Amazon player can play - what happens if they just stop supporting that format? That could be hundreds/thousands of pounds down the drain. That is why I can’t understand the subscription/streaming generation…

etulosba · 17/11/2022 09:58

The outrage is caused by being forced to pay extra to access what was originally included in the price.

hugznotdrugz · 17/11/2022 09:59

Google plays songs on demand when linked to a YouTube account I believe- we only use Google and they all play music
