happyfishcoco · 16/11/2022 17:49

would you quit Amazon prime because of it?
YABU= you have/will quit Amazon prime because of this
YANBU = you will not quit.

I don't need a much larger music catalogue!!
I only want to hear some favourite song I choose.
I used to use amazon to play nursery song for my 3 years old DC who already like to choose songs.

I already have a google dot, it was a gift, but I can't play songs on demand.
so I bought a kid echo because of it last year.
now I can't do this anymore!!
The kid echo can do nothing now!
really angry.

mostly I like amazon prime for the next-day delivery and the music.
I am not using other things.

I am thinking to quit Amazon prime. saving £9 per month!

I am not very into song listening but would like to know if other companies with a reasonable price for on-demand songs. I use it mainly for nursery songs. lol
and able to download some songs for offline use, ie in underground.
Thanks

@BamBamBilla - is subscription sharing piracy? I personally think the fragmentation of the market is bad for consumers in that it reduces access to what you want to see (and pay for) by creating large barriers (have to sign up to big subscription just to watch 1 show).

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 17/11/2022 10:39

I keep it for deliveries and I don't use the music thing actually so didn't know they had changed it, but reading this thread makes me wonder WHY they did implement these changes?!

Chihuahuapower · 17/11/2022 06:45

Have you thought of a yoto player? I have one for my 2 year old and use it all the time to play her favoutite songs and stories.

Feel free to message me if you have questions about them (I'm a superfan 😂)

I also have a discount link too

I have a yoto mini player but haven't ever played music through it. Just stories on the cards.
How do I play music?!

Gumreduction · 17/11/2022 10:43

I think it’s a complete bargain for what I get from Amazon prime so not in least bit considering jacking it in

AGreatUsername · 16/11/2022 18:06

I’m so annoyed about this too! The telly side of it has gone rubbish too and £99 seems a lot for some free deliveries.

What? Goes off to Google changes

But there will be other shows on the subscription! Fact you only want to watch one of the shows is your specific issue with the subscription

walkinthewoodstoday · 17/11/2022 10:48

I've googled and I can't work out the changes. Have they removed prime video? My child just got an Alexa kids... is this pointless now.

CountZacular · 17/11/2022 10:49

I cancelled Prime. We found that the awful tv shows DS really liked kept being removed as 'prime' and need to be bought, they don't really have much in the way of interesting content, the deliveries are rarely next day, the price increase seems unjustifiable with diminishing services and I also hate the music on-demand problems too. I did pay for Amazon music on top for a little bit but actually in comparison, Spotify always had the better selection.

I'm not even convinced that their 'Black Friday' and 'Prime Day' deals are any better than other offers in major stores.

Namenic · 17/11/2022 11:31

@Gumreduction - sure, I could just not be suited to the subscription model, but don’t you think the direction is pretty worrying?

Tv show A is only on Netflix, tv show B is only on Disney, tv show C is only on Amazon. How do I watch A, B and C? What if they are films and I want to watch them again? Personally I would rather pay for the stuff I watch (and keep it so me and kids can watch it again). It’s kinda going back to the model where you have to subscribe to certain sky channels to watch certain shows… except before you had the alternative of buying the dvd box set. Now you don’t…

in fact there’s been a time when I wanted to watch a film - but it wasn’t on Netflix or Amazon prime (even the ones where you download and pay - though it had been before). Don’t think it was on Disney either. It’s pretty regressive that there was no access. Fortunately it was on dvd - which I am happy to pay for. But what happens when they don’t release on dvd? Maybe I’d have to find a pirate site - despite being happy to pay £10-20 (more for a box set)

Gumreduction · 17/11/2022 11:33

Do I think the direction is worrying? No.

we are talking about TV programmes here. Personal preference for what we like and don’t like to watch. So no - absolutely not “worried” in the slightest about whether the programme is really like to watch as someone recommended it to me as not on the subscription service I pay for.

Chihuahuapower · 17/11/2022 11:40

You can buy music cards for it- there's loads of choice and you can listen to a snippet on the website before you buy.

Quite often we play yoto radio which comes free with it- you just have to set up in the app how you want it to play!

Worth checking out vinted and Facebook marketplace too

Or, you can download music you like from YouTube and link it to a Make Your Own card.

Namenic · 17/11/2022 11:41

Yeah - obvs not actually worried - like it’s small fish compared to cost of living etc. but I do find it intensely annoying and do get ‘worried’ that it’s gonna get harder to get what I want to watch or listen to. I think films and tv series are pretty comparable - in that I would like to re-watch good ones.

will never trust the big companies to keep their level of service or access to what I have bought in their format - will be storing media on my personal hard disk in a standard format.

jay55 · 17/11/2022 11:50

I don't use the music. But it sounds annoying.
Free delivery, tv and books make it worth it for me, for now.

LtJudyHopps · 16/11/2022 20:13

I will cancel my prime after Christmas because of this. I don’t order enough to justify it so it was mainly the music keeping me.
My sister and her friend (8) were also just asked if they wanted to upgrade to Amazon Music Unlimited to listen to the song they requested. They didn’t understand so said yes. Luckily I’ve blocked the payment - it’s criminal that all you have to do is say yes and it takes your money!!

this happened to my family a couple of years ago. I really complained as it is not acceptable to me that someone else (and partic a child) other than the bill payer can enter into this financial contract - help person seemed supportive then I found out they had only refunded 1 month. I have still to go back in and fight for the other months. I have cancelled Prime wef tomorrow as I was not using the Prime delivery very much any more and didnt really need much else.

McQueensMuse · 17/11/2022 12:23

Oh I hate this! My DS2 used to happily listen to the 'in the night garden' album every morning after his bottle.
I'd pop him in his cot and get the laundry put away, make the bed and hoover the floor.

He is not amused with the change and won't listen to the (crap) selection of nursery rhymes they now offer.

I like to listen to the Hamilton soundtrack all the way through when I'm doing my big weekly clean and that's not possible now.

I would cancel but it is the only TV show/movie subscription we have.

Winceybincey · 17/11/2022 12:26

Well with Prime we don’t actually get free next day delivery with the subscription cost. The cost of the item you’re buying is inflated to recoup the delivery cost. I’ve noticed it costs the same to buy the item at the RRP and pay for next day delivery.

Prime is a rip off.

Spectre8 · 17/11/2022 12:27

I have prime for the deliveries and streaming of videos not really for the music. So it doesn't matter too much to me

ABBAsnumberonefan · 17/11/2022 13:59

But loads of companies do things like this? Start cheap to encourage people to use it then increase the price. There’s nothing to be outraged about, just use a different streaming service. They have to compete with Apple Music and Spotify (which is the most popular one). It’s probs not profitable for them as it is.

Grigorisangel · 17/11/2022 14:09

I was absolutely furious when mine updated last week. I spent 6 days stewing over it and deciding what to do. We would always keep prime for the deliveries alone but I was refusing to upgrade to music unlimited as it seems they have only done it knowing people will upgrade. As a student apple and music unlimited are the same price for me and although I really didn’t want to on Monday I upgraded to the unlimited version so I could access my playlists again. The desire to keep my playlists won over swapping to Apple Music and having to sort it all out again
I am still angry about it now though

It’s a streaming service. Constantly being updated. It’s the nature of TV, as new programmes released and bidding between channels for the rights.

Really? I’m genuinely intrigued. How did that absolute fury about this manifest itself?

Grigorisangel · 17/11/2022 14:24

@Gumreduction Do you not have a similar service to understand why people might be furious?
I pay for prime and would say the music is what I personally use the most. I have a running playlist, a workout playlist, a cleaning playlist amongst many others that have taken quite some time to make. What the update has done is render my playlists useless as it will play random songs linked by genre that it believes are similar to the songs I’ve added to my playlist, if I wanted those songs they would have been in my playlist already. As I said I have given in and upgraded to the unlimited version and as a student it’s an extra £5p/m which isn’t a huge amount but still feels annoying when last week I could access those playlists at no extra cost. I find it strange that you can’t understand why people are angry about this

Toomanypressie · 17/11/2022 14:29

Argh I was wondering what’s up with my running playlist! I have a very specific running playlist that motivates me to keep going, of certain songs. Then it started playing random songs, then wouldn’t let me skip past a song if I wanted to hear the next one. I spend ages putting the playlist together as I add to it if I hear a song I like…need to have a proper look at it grrrrr

Luckydip1 · 17/11/2022 14:30

With these streaming services they know that once you have invested time in creating playlists which are not transferable you will be reluctant to leave and then they can hike prices.

QuestionableMouse · 17/11/2022 14:37

I've uninstalled the app and emailed them to say why. Also left a review on the Play store.
