would you quit Amazon prime because of it?
YABU= you have/will quit Amazon prime because of this
YANBU = you will not quit.

I don't need a much larger music catalogue!!
I only want to hear some favourite song I choose.
I used to use amazon to play nursery song for my 3 years old DC who already like to choose songs.

I already have a google dot, it was a gift, but I can't play songs on demand.
so I bought a kid echo because of it last year.
now I can't do this anymore!!
The kid echo can do nothing now!
really angry.

mostly I like amazon prime for the next-day delivery and the music.
I am not using other things.

I am thinking to quit Amazon prime. saving £9 per month!

I am not very into song listening but would like to know if other companies with a reasonable price for on-demand songs. I use it mainly for nursery songs. lol
and able to download some songs for offline use, ie in underground.
Thanks

I'm another one who doesn't get all the angst. Amazon Prime is an absolute bargain for deliveries alone. Where I live most deliveries are same day or next day. The music and tv are a bonus. Worth it for great series such as This is Us. If you want a full music subscription service you have to pay for it. Fair enough.

Someone mentioned Prime items being more expensive. In all my years of using Prime I've only seen this twice and on both occasions Amazon rectified it immediately and gave me a gift voucher as well. Other companies could learn from Amazon's customer service. It's excellent.

balalake · 19/11/2022 08:50

Anger about Amazon? I'll save it for the fact that they don't pay what I consider to be an acceptable amount of tax, though they are not the only large company failing to do so.

AnyRandomName · 19/11/2022 09:06

I've just cancelled my Amazon Prime as a result.

The TV is crap

Free delivery meant I was buying things I probably didn't need and was paying over the odds for them.

The music change made me furious.

I no longer wish to line the pockets of Mr Bezos

I now have a free trial of Apple Music

inappropriateraspberry · 19/11/2022 09:17

I hate that I can't download pre-made playlists anymore. I have to faff around making my own or rely on their shuffle.
I loved having something on my phone that I could play without any Wi-Fi or phone signal. Great for kids parties where the hall is in a dead spot with no signal!

Aside from this thread - I have heard absolutely nothing about this in RL in any sense at all!

If you look at the latest reviews of the Amazon Music app on the App Store you will see there are a lot of cross people. Same on Twitter. Just because you haven’t seen the anger doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.

The shuffle feature and refusal to skip more than 6 times is terrible. And as other posters have said the fact it’s badged as an improvement is galling

onlyjustme · 19/11/2022 09:42

Yes - only just realised that it wasn't "me" getting it wrong and that things have actually changed. It wouldn't let me skip a song last weekend which I thought was odd and then if I ask for a particular song it starts a whole "playlist" of x song and similar titles. Sometimes this works out OK though. Even my playlists get shuffled "and similar tracks".
I have had Prime for years... and I've had an amazon account since the 90's when it was just an on-line bookshop.
It seems that the Prime TV is trying to get me to buy more stuff now, telling me that a title is "rent or buy" at the last minute where before it was really obvious that it wasn't included in Prime.

Companies can change their services.
People can choose to stay or leave if they aren't happy.
I am not happy, I have decided that it's not worth it.

But I am sure Amazon will cope

Exactly

so Amazon hasn’t done anything wrong
you haven’t done anything wrong

Amazon haven't done anything wrong - but they have angered users (who knows how many) .

If you anger users, is that good business sense?

Unless you make some other users happy with the change ?

What would Lord Sugar say if this was an Apprentice task?

The music catalogue available has increased from 2 million to the entire back catalogue. More than 100 million

Gumreduction · 19/11/2022 10:59

And ads have been removed from loads of the podcasts

I asked it to play a song last night.
It used to play it before.

Now it just played a different one. Because it thought it was similar.

It would then, that this service is no longer for you

It is annoying, I don’t have a radio in my car so set my phone to play and then don’t touch it till I’ve reached my destination. I’m now listening to random crap. I do like the quick delivery thing and prime tv so won’t cancel but will seethe quietly instead.

That is what they are counting on!

Most people will just seethe quietly but continue to pay the £8.99 a month for the "free delivery" and TV.

Prime is rarely next day for me, and if it is it's always early evening. I am happy to wait 3 days for non-Prime free delivery.

Azerothi · 19/11/2022 12:08

I use Amazon frequently for shopping and TV but the music change has inexplicably angered me beyond reason. I just want to listen to my very carefully thought out play lists in the order I listed them with no extra music that Amazon thinks I like.

I am old and don't mind paying for a new music subscription, is Spotify the way to go? Any other recommendations?

And yes, by not subscribing to a paid version of Amazon Music along with Prime and my Kindle Unlimted, I am cutting off my nose to spite my face.

Lolreally · 19/11/2022 12:23

Everyone changing to spotify their free version has ads which I hate. I understand the annoyance that its changed but to expect unlimited music for free seems unrealistic.
They also need to pay for the god awful Rings of Power somehow 😂😂😂

I only want 2 songs though, played on repeat through alexa, by an obsessive 5yo. And 5 songs in my running playlist.

For anyone who was interested, I have set up and tested out my new echo dot, using both amazon music and free spotify.

In both cases, if I ask for a song (tested with ghostbusters theme and George ezra ) it will play that song, followed by "similar" songs. If I ask for a playlist, it will play one song from that playlist, then similar.

With free spotify, I seem to be able to play a created playlist if I select it through my phone, rather than Alexa though, so that's a bit better, and what I will use for running.

It's annoying that you can't have a playlist of your child’s favourite songs, that they can ask to play through Alexa. I wouldn't have ordered an echo if I'd known.

But, on balance, I probably won't return it, since it will be used for audible and the lights too, and was only ~£35 for 2 with a light bulb.

Notanotherwindow · 19/11/2022 12:31

I've requested a full refund of all Echo devices as they do not work as advertised and said they we're mis sold. Doubt I'll get it but I'll make a nuisance of myself regardless.

It will be interesting to see what they say.

If they provided a way to play mp3s you have paid for through Alexa in a playlist (maybe there is a way I don't know?) then that would be fine. I'd happily pay for the tracks I want to listen to, just not monthly for millions of tracks I don't want to listen to.

You were paying a subscription service purely for 2 songs?

Gumreduction · 19/11/2022 15:33

And then 5 yourself

so you were paying a monthly premium just for 7 songs?

Not a chance I’m afraid.

any chances will have been examined re-examined, reviewed, and then again and again and again by the legal team for any change that could conceivably be perceived in law as contravening Ts&Cs

Did you identify the specific “advertising” and contract terms that means that now what is offered contravenes the contract?

No, that's my point. I was getting it for free with my prime, and it did exactly what I wanted, but now it doesn't, and I'm certainly not paying a monthly cost to get it back.
