would you quit Amazon prime because of it?
YABU= you have/will quit Amazon prime because of this
YANBU = you will not quit.

I don't need a much larger music catalogue!!
I only want to hear some favourite song I choose.
I used to use amazon to play nursery song for my 3 years old DC who already like to choose songs.

I already have a google dot, it was a gift, but I can't play songs on demand.
so I bought a kid echo because of it last year.
now I can't do this anymore!!
The kid echo can do nothing now!
really angry.

mostly I like amazon prime for the next-day delivery and the music.
I am not using other things.

I am thinking to quit Amazon prime. saving £9 per month!

I am not very into song listening but would like to know if other companies with a reasonable price for on-demand songs. I use it mainly for nursery songs. lol
and able to download some songs for offline use, ie in underground.
Thanks

Amazon music has been a shitstow for ages for me. I'd make a playlist and then the following week half the tracks would be greyed out as they are suddenly unavailable. Spotify is much better and works better with Alexa.

OhmygodDont · 17/11/2022 14:49

We have the unlimited music plan and have found lately when asking it to play recommended for me it’s all random bollocks rather than actual music/playlists that reflect what we would listen to.

ABBAsnumberonefan · 17/11/2022 13:59

But loads of companies do things like this? Start cheap to encourage people to use it then increase the price. There’s nothing to be outraged about, just use a different streaming service. They have to compete with Apple Music and Spotify (which is the most popular one). It’s probs not profitable for them as it is.

Amazon is worth $928billion.

It's ok for people to complain about a change in service 🧘🏽‍♀️

GelatoQueen · 17/11/2022 16:45

Funnily enough I had this conversation with DH last night. I couldn't work out what had happened to my music, and the last straw was that you can only skip a certain number of randomly generated tracks ... I spent time compiling my playlists, I wanna play them.

I took out an annual subscription in July so stuck with Amazon for now but really think the offer now is poor: can't access my music; haven't watched prime video for ages, don't buy as much as I did so will take stock again next year (and have uninstalled the app meantime). Get so much better value from Disney+ and am considering Apple Music as an alternative.

GelatoQueen · 17/11/2022 17:02

And I have just complained!

skyeisthelimit · 17/11/2022 17:51

It's not a mindset or age thing, its the fact that something was working perfectly well and everyone was happy with it and then they changed it to something worse with far less features and called it an improvement/upgrade.

That’s exactly the logic that someone who doesn’t understand streaming would say!

it is very much an evolving constant moving service. Good one day of a new TV show joins or a new album is added, and then may be pulled and replaced with something else that doesn’t float your boat but…. Is exactly what another subscriber wants.

DdraigGoch · 17/11/2022 18:51

I cancelled my annual renewal. I'll pay for a month when the next series of Clarkson's Farm is released, but otherwise they won't be getting my money.

CottonSock · 17/11/2022 19:06

I found it way too annoying and upgraded to unlimited years ago. I love it so won't be changing. I can listen to any song in the world practically. I think its good value and can be shared.

I also use the photo app and pay extra for video storage. I have just noticed changes to that app today so I hope nothing annoying.

That's not the problem though - fair enough, if I made a playlist, and suddenly some of the songs weren't available.

But the songs ARE still available, including some that I paid to purchase, rather than stream. But it just won't play them for me, because it thinks it knows better!

That is just infuriating.

AloysiusBear · 17/11/2022 20:39

I've gone back to trying to buy music i like in a format where i own a disc or at least a file that isnt restricted to a particular platform.

Subscriber services are just a way to make us all spend more to own less.

It's one thing to increase the price (you've got the option to cancel your renewal), but quite another to drastically reduce your service partway through the contract.

And they had the nerve to try and claim that it's an upgrade.

Again, loads of places do it. I would imagine most people have Amazon music as a byproduct of Prime rather than as the main reason they have Prime so I’m not sure it’s quite as dramatic as you’re trying to make it sound.

where did I say they couldn’t? I’m just saying there’s no need for the hyperbole. Amazon music has never been their main selling point nor focus so it’s almost expected that they’d phase it out at some point. If them features are so important then perhaps consumers should do some light market scanning and select a service specifically centred around just music if they want a good user experience - coz that’s all they’ve got to make money. Amazon has its marketplace. 🧘‍♀️

taliaG · 17/11/2022 23:30

Prime is not like any other streaming service - perhaps those who don't have it or don't use it don't understand what has changed.

The change is not like Netflix where the the content available changes. It would be similar to Netflix changing so that you could only watch the first episode of a series and then instead of showing you episode 2, it would show you episode 2 of a different series , that it thinks is "similar". And asking you to pay more to watch the rest of the first series.

taliaG · 17/11/2022 23:52

And if enough people quit/complain after the change and go to other services it will be very bad business decision, and they might change it back.

if enough, yeah. but seen won't be enough.
only 1/3 of people quit, I think they don't care.
and seem some people will pay an extra £10 for the upgrade.
or happy with other Prime services.

Name a company that (without triggering a major backlash) drastically changed its service (to the extent of deliberately making it unusable, rather than just reducing the service) AFTER it had taken the money. It's one thing to change things at renewal, quite another to do it overnight when people have already paid for it.

Gumreduction · 18/11/2022 16:16

Aside from this thread - I have heard absolutely nothing about this in RL in any sense at all!

Hadjab · 18/11/2022 16:25

Namenic · 16/11/2022 18:43

This is why I am highly suspicious of subscription services. I would rather own a track or movie so I can watch it when I want. Sometimes I fancy watching something - but it’s not on prime or Netflix…. So unless I get the dvd I can’t watch it.

I am also suspicious of downloading a proprietary format - I had some shows on iTunes. And now the iTunes Store has kinda gone (to be fair I haven’t tried playing those old shows I bought). I am old skool and prefer to have the solid dvd/cd. I load the file onto my computer and devices. Is anyone old enough to remember Napster? Does it need a renaissance?

If you download the Apple TV app - you don't need a subscription - every show/film you've bought will be there.

exactly, it's not a question of evolving, it is a question of stopping you from doing things you could do before which is listen to your playlist . I want to listen to my music choices not Amazon's. I don't want to explore new music, I have no interest in that.

I want to be able to shuffle and skip as I don't want to listen to the same order every single time. I don't want Amazon to insert crap into my playlist.

That is not the same as adding or removing albums.

OhmygodDont · 18/11/2022 17:24

I’ve actually just cancelled my
family plan because whatever fuckery they have done has buggered up play lists and reconvened for me on there too.

Gumreduction · 19/11/2022 08:37

But this would have been explicitly stated in the terms and conditions - that the service is subject to change in terms of what is offered on the platform!!!!

Companies can change their services.
People can choose to stay or leave if they aren't happy.
I am not happy, I have decided that it's not worth it.

But I am sure Amazon will cope
