would you quit Amazon prime because of it?
YABU= you have/will quit Amazon prime because of this
YANBU = you will not quit.

I don't need a much larger music catalogue!!
I only want to hear some favourite song I choose.
I used to use amazon to play nursery song for my 3 years old DC who already like to choose songs.

I already have a google dot, it was a gift, but I can't play songs on demand.
so I bought a kid echo because of it last year.
now I can't do this anymore!!
The kid echo can do nothing now!
really angry.

mostly I like amazon prime for the next-day delivery and the music.
I am not using other things.

I am thinking to quit Amazon prime. saving £9 per month!

I am not very into song listening but would like to know if other companies with a reasonable price for on-demand songs. I use it mainly for nursery songs. lol
and able to download some songs for offline use, ie in underground.
Thanks

Looks like the deal has changed to 3months free now but we got 6 on 1st November.

It really is an annoying change

user16480478 · 16/11/2022 20:50

They may have a deal with the music on Black Friday

Wine4whine · 16/11/2022 20:52

@megletthesecond all of your playlists will have been carried over to the new app (YouTube music) it's all but the old Google music app. I was also a subscriber and transferred over when the branding switched.

user16480478 · 16/11/2022 20:53

My deliveries are all next day, some are by 10pm same day, or 1pm next day, I think it depends where you live as DS didn't get same day delivery where he lived

Sparklfairy · 16/11/2022 21:21

It stops after an hour or so too due to "inactivity". What activity do you need from me to be playing music?!

I was just about getting used to it playing x artist and similar. Just. But now it stops after x no of songs and if you want it to carry on it starts the same list of songs, in the same order, from the beginning Angry

CCSS15 · 16/11/2022 21:31

I hate it - its also driving the kids crazy as they just want to listen to tractor Ted not something like it, they dont understand at 2 and 4.
in addition they have been moving kids programmes off standard amazon prime so there's not much left free of charge. We will cancel once it comes up for renewal

IntrovertedPenguin · 16/11/2022 21:33

I use Spotify it's linked to my Alexa account.

EcoCustard · 16/11/2022 21:46

I thought I was alone in being miffed about this. I have considered cancelling prime altogether as order very little now and when I do it’s never next day. I couldn’t play playlists of songs I have had on there for years, purchased ones too it just kept playing similar songs it was infuriating. I found a 6 month free subscription with £8.99 afterwards. I may keep that, and cancel my prime though or both.

CaptainMerica · 16/11/2022 21:57

I don't understand what the change is. I have a couple of playlists on my phone for running/workouts. Am I not going to be able to listen to them anymore?

I also just bought an Echo Dot for DS for xmas, so he can alternate asking Alexa to play Shotgun, and the ghostbusters song. Will he not be able to do that? I might send it back, if not.

Luckydip1 · 16/11/2022 21:58

It will only plays songs that are similar to the ones you want.

I haven’t listened to Amazon music just recently but that’s crazy. Who would want that??

AutisticLegoLover · 16/11/2022 22:09

I've not noticed any issues. I listen all the time at home or out walking.

I just live chatted amazon to ask, and they said that if you request a specific song, it will play that first, but then shuffle similar songs in after that first song.

I think I'll need to set up my echo and test how well it works, and see whether to send it back.

LuckyPaisley · 16/11/2022 23:07

@CaptainMerica I'd be interested to know if you do test out your echo dot, as to whether its useful. I'm about to buy one for DD's birthday but if this is how it is, I need to quickly find alternatives.

Does anyone know if Spotify will work normally on the kids Echo Dot instead?

I can’t get it play the song I want either. Amazon Music is completely useless now, as far as I am concerned. They recently increased the price for Prime too. The problem is that I actually use Amazon quite frequently, so cancelling Prime would be akin to cutting off my nose to spite my face.

Until I saw this thread, I thought it was some kind of setting that I had inadvertently turned on.

Glitteratitar · 17/11/2022 01:22

Yep, we cancelled. I found the changes annoying as if I want to listen to an artist, I want that artist, not other similar ones. We already had Spotify so just linked that to the Alexa instead.

NickEccles · 17/11/2022 01:53

I am curious..........

Someone mentioned Napster from the 'Good old days' of file sharing!

Now I began downloading & filesharing from around 1999 & still have my original d/loaded files from that time right up to the present day!

Same folder on my separate media hard drive kept that way so all my home devices, phone & car media player will always continue to play newly added songs etc....

All my old records cd's & audio cassettes I converted to digital years ago so all music resides in the same place - SO convenient & very easy to compile playlists which I do all the time as well as modifying existing pl's anytime I want!

So the question here is: Why on earth did you all not save/keep all your downloaded tracks over the years instead of junking them & switching to just streaming services instead?? My digital media has been collected over the years & all other media formats converted to one playable format! You lost all your previous d/loaded music paid for or otherwise for the thread topic thereby losing all you had previously acquired!

If you're a serious music lover then why let the greedy corps dictate the way you enjoy your music? I have never subscribed to ANY streaming service or Apple based music platform - Why would I want to after collecting & collating my 1000's of songs?? I abhor all of them esp Apple/Amazon etc! They are in it for YOUR MONEY, no other reason!

I backup all my media very often & also host all my music online for others to share & me to be able to d/load wherever I am on the planet! Now many of you can u/stand why I do this while many of you are now fucked off with streaming services which will never replace having the actual file in your possession! The same applies to DVD & video files too! Keep what you acquire over the years then this will not be able to happen to any of you! 😊

I'm not trying to be stupid but what has actually changed? I tend to play the same song on repeat or an amazon playlist so I'm not clear what has changed.

taliaG · 17/11/2022 03:11

Yep it's really annoying and shit. I was thinking of quitting prime anyway but this has pushed me over the edge.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 17/11/2022 04:28

SquirrelSoShiny · 17/11/2022 02:41

I'm not trying to be stupid but what has actually changed? I tend to play the same song on repeat or an amazon playlist so I'm not clear what has changed.

I'm also a bit confused about what has changed. I've read this thread and done some googling, am I right in understanding that the issue is that if you go into Amazon music, search for an artist or album or song, then press play on a specific song, then it won't actually play that song, it will play something different? But I've just searched for an artist, pressed on them, chosen a song and pressed play and it played. Then I searched for a song title, pressed play on the song and it played. So I don't seem to have the issue?

I don't actually use Prime music much. The vast majority of the time I listen to music on my digital audio player, where I have digital versions of all the CDs I own, plus some albums more recently bought in mp3 format. When I do listen to Prime music it's either a playlist someone else compiled which I use to run to, or an album I'm thinking of buying. The playlists seemed to work fine at the weekend, will listening to an album not work in future?

RichardMarxisinnocent · 17/11/2022 04:44

I've just realised I have a free trial of Amazon music unlimited so perhaps that's why it's playing individual songs. Once the trial is over will it really refuse to play a song I've pressed play on? Or will individual songs just not have a play button?

Dalooah · 17/11/2022 04:46

Ugh I HATE the new prime music. Like someone upthread has said, I'd rather have fewer songs and listen to what we actually want to! I use it almost exclusively for the kids and we are all HATING the new model. It's certainly no upgrade as their tried to sell it.

If you've not updated your app you may still be lucky enough to not have been affected by the changes- my advice would be don't update it!

I'm cancelling but have already paid for the year so can't even get a refund. Have complained to customer service x3 to be told 'we'll look into it". So much for being the most customer centric company!!

I really did think I was the only one being ever so frustrated with the changes. The fact that the changes took place with no warning really angered me! And then a pathetic email 'announcing' said 'upgrade'. 🙄🙄🙄

Initially I was under the impression that you could create playlists but they'd play in shuffle mode not that you literally couldn't listen to the music in the playlist. What is the point?!

mashh · 17/11/2022 05:03

I don't understand the outrage. Maybe it's a mindset thing? I am early 20s so am used to premium subscription services...

Amazon do offer the features you want - it's bundled in their unlimited package so you have to pay extra to upgrade now.

Which isn't that unusual. As far as I'm aware, Spotify do the same thing with their premium subscription where you can select individual songs without shuffle.

It's just a standard subscription model at this point

I'm in my 60s and must say I agree, I think people are expecting a subscription service like Spotify or Apple Music for a free add on, bundled in with delivery and prime video, I pay £99 a year to play what I want on Apple Music, I have Prime for delivery and TV and think that it is good value as I order a lot and watch some of the TV series.

There are so many different subscriptions around now that people need to sort out what is best for them, obviously if people only order half a dozen things from Amazon and don't watch much of the TV then it isn't really worth buying Prime, then they would be better paying the Prime subscription money to a decent music streamer instead if the music is the important thing to them.
