What Christmas decor do you hate?

Following on from a thread about interior design hates, I thought I'd do a festive version.
I'll start

I do not like:

Pop up trees

Blue lights - flashing or not

Inflatables

Rope light figures

Fibre optics

Projectors on houses.

What are yours?

Ooh I love almost all of the festive stuff except:

Tinsel - hate the stuff! Our Christmas tree when I was a kid was silver tinsel, covered in tinsel and all the presents around it had thin tinsel for the ribbon/bows... yuck!

Flashing lights- they just give me a headache thinking about them! My DBrothers tree flashes and it pisses me right off! I'm delightful usually

Gonks - I used to like them when they were the cute unusual decorations but now they're absolutely everywhere and remind me of garden gnomes 🤢

I quite like the scandi stuff but go more for the mismatched nostalgic decorations that we've gathered over the years. We buy a new bauble or some such for the tree every year and have done since DD was a baby so we have quite the collection over the years ❤️

I would love one of those under my Christmas tree.

We have always had a fake one but I thought about having a real one a couple of years ago until we found out my DD is allergic to them. That put paid to that idea 😀. She now decorates the tree and won't let me put all the tat they made at preschool on so I just wait till she's at work and sneak it on round the back.

Although I'm a bit glad the Elf on the Shelf wasn't a thing when DS was young, it sounds exhausting!

Perfectly colour coordinated trees.. I have collected baubles and hanging ornaments for mine for years from all over the world, each one has a story and is special to me. My tree is total chaos but I love it 😅

So…. If I get a door bow, flashing blue lights and a projector of nutcrackers climbing out of my windows to eat the gonks with their big white teeth… I will be ostracised at Christmas???? I’m off to B&M tomorrow

What a Miserable bunch of people you all are criticising peoples attempts to celebrate and be jolly, all Christmas decor makes me smile tacky or not.

Hopefully theses won’t make a reappearance… my mum had a full set and I hated them. They are the most sullen , sad, depressed decorations I’ve ever come across. I used to go out and buy happy fat jolly versions to sneak into her house to counter the terror. Tell me this isn’t a Rasputin look alike.

Really… how jolly is my example…c’mon I dare you to find joy in that soulless vacant state 🤣

Thin strands of foil that you put over the branches,usually gold or silver but I got some red one year. Wilkos usually have it . The tree lights make it glisten. I love the stuff.

All of it.

But especially things that play ‘music’ or flash lights, or creepy elves on the stupid shelves.

Knew some oh so trendy types who had a black upside down Xmas tree. Horrendous. Flashing lights of any colour . And any Xmas themed toilet accessories

Definitely blue lights! Warm white or traditional multi coloured all the way 🎄

Also dislike these trees with oversized candy canes / feathers sticking out of them 🙈

Love this thread. I hate tinsel - it never looks right when I try to do it.

Having read “blue lights” and “flashing lights” so many times on this thread, I’m now going to bed with Jorja Smith’s song going round and round in my head!

I genuinely thought, on reading the first sentence of your second paragraph, that you were planning on sticking a real angel on your tree before you realised your DD was allergic to them.

I had serious questions about that. All of that 😳

I hate Christmas colours red or red and green together.

I actually hate almost all Christmas decorations. I find the whole aesthetic cluttered and ugly.

Oh yeah, Christmas pyjamas, jumpers, sheets, throws, cushions etc

Gammy.

Blue lights, blue white lights, cool white lights.
Elf on the shelf.
Christmas decorations before the 1st of December - I exclude major street decorations from this loathing. Because I have to.

Should be legally banned.

In fact make that all flashing, as opposed to gently twinkling, lights.

Tinsel.

Anything with glitter on.

Elf on the shelf.

Twigs.

Not really a fan of Christmas trees to be honest 😲some are worse than others.

Coordinated Christmas tree decs - perfectly placed!! We have all different ornaments and the kids help decorate AND..we leave the baubles where they put them!
the creepy elf on the shelf - don't mind other elves but I find the original shelf ones above freaky!
