What Christmas decor do you hate?

Following on from a thread about interior design hates, I thought I'd do a festive version.
I'll start

I do not like:

Pop up trees

Blue lights - flashing or not

Inflatables

Rope light figures

Fibre optics

Projectors on houses.

What are yours?

Agree with all of your list @MistyGreenAndBlue especially flashing blue lights which make me look for a emergency vehicles. Also not a fan of massive bows all over the trees or garlands, feels really naff and dated to me but not in a good way ( I feel the same about scrunchies)

Nutcracker for me and they are now everywhere 😩. When did this become a thing ???

Narrow really artificial looking trees.
Tinsel
Trees where all the baubles are the same size and matching, looks so corporate
Bows on trees 🤮
Bows on doors 🤮🤮
Coloured LED lights. The only nice coloured lights are the old fashioned fairy lights that came in more colours.
Cold white lights
Blue lights
Flashing lights
Inflatables and projectors outside
Tree skirts

Coloured lights, warm white only for us or i feel like I'm going mad.

I have very definite ideas about what I like for my own house, but I don't hate things that don't fit my aesthetic. I quite like seeing all the different styles of tree and decoration. I do hate flashing lights, they hurt my head and much prefer warm white over any other colour, but if they are not flashing, I can tolerate them.

Nutcracker, the teeth! They look like they've had their lips cut off!
None festive tree decorations, just because it's shiny or has glitter, stuff like watermelon slices, lobsters.

That said I put all kinds of random crap on my tree. If I don't want to or can't throw it out and it's not too big it'll go on the tree and spend the rest of the year in the loft.

Snowmen ornaments with legs.

Ornaments that are just heads, who beheads Santa and puts it on the tree.

Butterflies and dragonflies, they're not christmassy. They should be dead or hibernating.

Figurines that have long, thin, out of proportion legs or bits of chain for knees, ick!

I'll stop now.

Flashing migraine inducing lights- flashing blue strings of fairy lights and those light projections on houses are the main causes
Big bows on houses
Nutcracker soldiers
Unnatural looking trees I.e any colour other than green

I love tinsel and those pop up foil decorations. Not sure if the foil decs still exist or were they a proper fire hazard

Door bows
Coloured lights
Inflatable rudolph etc
Projectors
Flashing lights

No. You can still get them.

So many things here I’ve never seen- light projectors, door bows, reindeer made of logs?

Feathers or weird-ass banana leaved sprigs of strange just sticking out of the tree. Wtf is that about?! 😳

yes! Has to be mismatched different shaped and sized baubles ranging from precious heirloom to pompom made by children, or what is the point

Re nutcrackers, last year I bought a paint your own nutcracker and I turned it into Freddie Mercury in his yellow jacket outfit. I can't wait to get him out again this year 😂

Decorations with penguins and polar bears together.

Every time I see them I curse Chevy Chase! Did we have so many exterior decorations before his National Lampoon Christmas Vacation? mI don't recall them in the 70s or early 80s .

No one is going to bed and sleeping easy knowing there are nutcrackers hiding in attics just waiting to get out and hatch their evil plans 😳

I don’t like dangling, icicle lights on houses. Pretty much anything is ok by me.

I used to do matchy matchy Christmas. My artificial tree decorations would match whatever colour my decor was. It was all very simple, with warm lights on windows/tree/outside. Not really a colour in sight I’m ashamed to say.

Until last year when I was talking about how Christmas used to be as a kid. All the colours, the tinsel and mis matched decorations. That, for me was my Christmas memories. So we went to the Christmas tree farm to choose a tree as a family. I bought multi coloured fairy lights, we went and got whatever decorations for the tree we all wanted. Tinsel, foil ceiling decorations. We decorated together rather than me being anal about the tree and making sure everything ‘had its place’
The kids even made paper chains for the ceiling. A proper late 80’s/early 90’s Christmas.
I even went out and bought Santa and snowman inflatables for the front garden.
The feeling of warmth that came over me was amazing and the kids absolutely adored it.

my dislikes Are definitely blue lights and this over the top tree decoration with silk ribbon and huge decorations coming out so you can’t even see the tree. They do look pretty but just not Christmassy enough for me.
also, the whole candy cane/gingerbread man decorations on the tree. It’s all I see on social media.
