Following on from a thread about interior design hates, I thought I'd do a festive version.
I'll start

I do not like:

Pop up trees

Blue lights - flashing or not

Inflatables

Rope light figures

Fibre optics

Projectors on houses.

What are yours?

I can’t stand anything that’s been bought brand new because the owner has to have a different theme or colour scheme every year, such a waste!

TroysMammy · 16/11/2022 06:26

All of it except my white owl.

Is she called Hedwig?

wellstopdoingitthen · 16/11/2022 09:15

I Have no idea what the nutcrackers are that people are talking about.
Could someone put up a picture please?

KimberleyClark · 16/11/2022 09:25

I remember a neighbour having an inflatable Santa that had a slow puncture. By the end of the day he looked like he’d been kneed in the groin.

My mother used to put swathes of lametta on the tree. Never see the stuff now. Same for blue tinsel. I feel a deep nostalgia for how crap everything looked in the 80s and 90s when I see the 'prepped for the gram' shots.

You can still buy it, seen it in Asda and some of the cheapy shops too. I inherited the christmas decorations when my mum passed and they came with tons of lametta. I have kept it for nostalgia but don't use it. One of our cats seems to think it is a tasty snack plus it gets everywhere.

It's a wooden doll in the image of a soldier or king whose mouth opens and you can crack nuts between their teeth. Nowadays most of them can't crack nuts they just ornaments that either stand alone or hang from the tree.
The nutcracker come from a story written in the 1800's by German author E.T.A. Hoffman called The Nutcracker and the King of Mice.

This utter abomination 🤮.

Love it!!!!

jays · 19/11/2022 07:18

Led tree lights. I like warm lifts and there is no warmth in those lifts at all”, they’re horrible!

advent calendars that have nothing to do with Christmas - looking at you Peppa Pig

coloured Christmas trees - black, hot pink etc

those Let It Snow word ornament thingies.

What a Miserable bunch of people you all are criticising peoples attempts to celebrate and be jolly, all Christmas decor makes me smile tacky or not.

Oh ffs, we’re just having a laugh, you sound I like the misery guts here to be honest , no one is serious, I think it’s fairly bloody obvious it’s light hearted!

Yep. I hate "ooh what colour shall we have this year? Silver and purple or red and gold?" themes. With everything evenly spaced on the tree, and rows of decorations in perfectly parallel lines.

My tree looks like someone has been walking towards it with a box of decorations and then tripped. And I love it.

lollipoprainbow · 19/11/2022 08:21

Same !! We have every kind of decoration going the more kitsch the better, adore our tree (real obvs!)

mangomelba · 19/11/2022 08:42

@TheYearOfSmallThings @I love those lights! They remind me of christmases when I was younger. The softer colours are nicer than today's sharp LEDs.

Have to admit, I'm guilty of this. I like a nice neat co-ordinated tree

But not TOO much.

Do you not have a soft spot for this though? It's teal! And rotates! It is so hideous it has become beautiful.

jays · 19/11/2022 10:32

Oh yes, yes I have a massive soft spot for that and would love it and keep it for life! I’m all mouth, give me a wee broken decoration or a single unloved tacky tree who’s left behind on the shelf and I’ll take it home and love it forever, I’m a complete sap. I’ve had a mini singing Christmas tree for 25 years that a sales rep brought in to my office ‘on approval’. Everyone hated it and I felt so bad for it that when he came to collect it I ended up running down the stairs after him to buy it. Don’t listen to a word I say I’m a pushover! 😂

Floydthebarber · 19/11/2022 16:56

I totally understand! The number of inanimate objects I 'feel sorry for' is amazing!

slowquickstep · 19/11/2022 17:35

The Santa stop here signs, i can cope with the ones that say please. If i was Santa i wouldn't unless the sign said please.

HeraldicBlazoning · 19/11/2022 17:39

All of it really, but in particular:

anything matchy matchy which is used for one year and thrown in the bin.

excessive plastic

those awful projector things

lights which shine in my windows when I am trying to sleep

pretty much any tat sold in the likes of Home Bargains.

sueelleker · 19/11/2022 17:44

Reminds me of the rotating Christmas trees in David Tennant's first outing as Dr Who- "The Christmas Invasion".

Puzzledandpissedoff · 19/11/2022 17:44

This: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/401730194746

It makes an appearance on here every Christmas and here it is again - because for reasons I can't begin to fathom, nobody wants to spend £700 on it Halloween Grin

HeraldicBlazoning · 19/11/2022 17:57

This is the box of baubles I bought in a charity shop last year. Nothing matchy matchy on my tree.

What Christmas decor do you hate?
Pliudev · 19/11/2022 19:34

It's not decor exactly but I hate it when trees and decorations are taken down on Boxing day or the day after. I guess it's the result of putting it all up very early but it always makes me sad. Supermarkets are the worst, I can remember doing some last minute shopping and they were coming down on Christmas eve. On the other hand, if you've had a disaster I can understand it and it's really none of my business.
