to think that my carer has stolen a knife and a fork?

FFS. Yes, yes, yes, yes. I realise how insane I sound.

Please tell me that I don't have a thief? I've been assigned a carer for a couple of weeks while I'm undergoing tests. I've noticed a knife and a fork is now missing (they come from an expensive set).

Am I going utterly insane or would somebody actually steel a knife and fork?

I didn't say they weren't missing - you are absolutely paranoid if you can't find a fork and assume a carer would steal it.
Cutlery is cutlery - who on earth would think you paid £160 for it? I don't think I know anyone who would look at a fork and think "Corr that's expensive", unless it was encrusted with diamonds. It's very likely been misplaced. If it was jewellery, cash, a phone, I can see why you might be concerned, but not for a bloody fork.

Well the goblins sure as hell didn't!

I think it can really cause anxiety having to open your house to people - you feel in a vulnerable place.

However, if your carer was going to steal from you, I doubt they’d steal cutlery. Most people wouldn’t even know what type of cutlery was valuable. I think what’s far more likely is that one of the carers, not knowing the house very well, has tidied them away to somewhere they don’t belong. That, or they’ve accidentally been thrown away. I once threw a fork away with a pot noodle, DH noticed and told me!

ladydimitrescu · 11/11/2022 23:44

Well of course the goblins didn't - they only steal babies to take back to goblin city for the goblin king. I thought that was common knowledge.

Itisbetter · 11/11/2022 23:45

what is she supposed to do when she’s there?

She didn't do any washing-up though, so she wouldn't have accidentally put them anywhere. When she arrived this morning, I had to take a shower so she was entirely alone here for 20 minutes.

Is this because you already made a post about needing tests done and noone asked how sick you are and what's wrong with you?

wtf?

Yeah. You nailed it.

You could have just said it was the cleaner, and no-one would have questioned it.

Why?

ladydimitrescu · 11/11/2022 23:51

Right let's look logically-
Did you clear up yourself after eating, or did she?
Had you used the cutlery today, or was it sat in the drawer?
Have you checked the bin Incase you threw them away?
Have you checked the dishwasher, other drawers, cupboards, etc?

Zwellers · 11/11/2022 23:52

What's the point of this thread. You have made up your mind it's the carer and are not listening to anything anyone else has to say because they are not agreeing with you.

Trumpetpants · 11/11/2022 23:52

Where will it end? Clutches pearls dramatically! Knife and fork today, spoon tomorrow, sleep with one eye open...

Itisbetter · 11/11/2022 23:52

@ticktocktickboom yes what are her actual duties? Who manages what she does with the time?

NippyWoowoo · 11/11/2022 23:53

I sound insane. Fucking hell. Who the fuck steals a knife and fork?

No one. Get a grip.

Neither of us ate.
I noticed them missing this evening when I was washing the dishes.
I don't throw cutlery away
There is nowhere else to put them

Oh - has someone mentioned an alternative thief?

It’s a bit random. I wouldn’t have thought they would’ve gone for a knife and fork to be honest

When did you last use them? Is there a dirty tray somewhere?

ladydimitrescu · 11/11/2022 23:56

Ok, but you haven't answered if you've actually looked elsewhere for them? Or if you've used them today?

ticktocktickboom · 11/11/2022 23:56

No. I have searched high and low. No forks or knives in unusual places.
