to think that my carer has stolen a knife and a fork?

FFS. Yes, yes, yes, yes. I realise how insane I sound.

Please tell me that I don't have a thief? I've been assigned a carer for a couple of weeks while I'm undergoing tests. I've noticed a knife and a fork is now missing (they come from an expensive set).

Am I going utterly insane or would somebody actually steel a knife and fork?

What are her actual duties? Your
care for me line was purposely vague.
retrace you steps. When exactly did you last have them?

Woolandwonder · 12/11/2022 03:54

I'm a bit confused, you have a carer who doesn't do anything? So you shower without support, wash up yourself etc so do you need her and what is she meant to be helping you with? And have you asked her if she knows where the cutlery is?

purplethings · 12/11/2022 04:07

Ask her. She maybe brought food from home for her lunch that day but forgot cutlery. Count your blessings she didn't have a pudding !

PinkButtercups · 12/11/2022 04:10

Probably fell down the back of the draw.

Can't see someone stealing a knife and fork tbh.

Redead · 12/11/2022 04:19

I once "stole" a knife and fork on accident because I used them and in a hurry shut the container I was eating out of and took them home. Of course I washed and returned them though. It was an honest mistake. I'm just running by possibilities that aren't worst case scenarios. Maybe they did get taken but it's not the situation you think it is? Either way good luck!

BlueKaftan · 12/11/2022 04:58

Are you feeling a bit lonely, OP?

Conkersareback · 12/11/2022 05:11

If she's bay caring for you, why do you have her come?

Sorry should say if she's not caring for you!

I wouldn't fork out on something like that if she's not doing it!

Do not be misled by the reading of a holy book. When I worked in retail there was a very religious colleague who read the bible every break time, wore an ostentatious cross and had crossed dangling in her car. When money went missing we were all searched on the way out. Dear readers, that woman had money up her sleeves, down her socks, in her pockets, probably up her doodah for all I know.

Prettybutdumb · 12/11/2022 06:30

Check your bin if not too late… I scooped out plenty of cutlery from the top of the rubbish after dinner parties where helpful guests insisted on helping clear up and halving our cutlery sets in the process.

Furore · 12/11/2022 06:37

Actually, my mother came out of hospital and my sibling had 10 days of family carer support entitlement. One carer cane for about 6 days. My mother is convinced the carer stole about 6 teaspoons. She had lots of yoghurts to eat while she was at my mother's house. It was a bit of a dilemma as to what to do. And because it was only teaspoons we did nothing. On balance I think it is most likely the carer did steal them. They were quite nice. Obv my mum had several carers and there was this issue with just one of them. It does make you think what would go missing if the person had dementia.

I wonder if she borrowed it to scarf down a meal and it ended up up in the Tupperware box back home.
I've that with work cutlery a few times.

My dh has done this twice recently. i was really confused by the random fork.

ask her to remember to bring them back as they go with a set.

YANBU. Many manufacturers make knives and forks from steel.

Have a word with the carer but don’t be too sharp

Mummyoflittledragon · 12/11/2022 07:26

Just ask her. Not in an accusing way. Just you can’t find a knife and fork, has she seen them. She may have simply borrowed them as she forgot hers, meant to let you know and didn’t.

Yes, don't stick the knife in!

PoseyFlump · 12/11/2022 07:29

The solution is simple. You have two carers. You suspect carer A so mention the knife and fork are missing to carer B. She won't want her boss thinking she's stealing and will sort it out with carer A.

The old letterbox trick.

sashh · 12/11/2022 07:31

I think it is probably a case of the carer eating and putting the knife and fork in her lunch box.

I know you said you were in the shower OP but carers rarely get to take their breaks so it might be that was the only time she got to eat.

you’re posting earnestly about a knife and fork

It needed a bit of livening up

Thank me later.

And don’t take too prong about it

I do! Because they cost £160! (the whole set, not one knife and fork)

She starts with the cutlery......... what's next?

I sound insane. Fucking hell. Who the fuck steals a knife and fork?

More like who the fork pays £160 for a few pieces of cutlery!

WhyOY · 12/11/2022 07:44

I don't know why you're getting a hard time OP. It must be difficult having someone you don't know in your own home. Could you tell her you've lost a knife and fork and could she help you look for it?
