to think that my carer has stolen a knife and a fork?

FFS. Yes, yes, yes, yes. I realise how insane I sound.

Please tell me that I don't have a thief? I've been assigned a carer for a couple of weeks while I'm undergoing tests. I've noticed a knife and a fork is now missing (they come from an expensive set).

Am I going utterly insane or would somebody actually steel a knife and fork?

Surely a more logical conclusion is they’ve been put away in the wrong place? Also, are they diamond-encrusted? How valuable can a knife and fork possibly be?

Ramble0n · 11/11/2022 23:16

Forked off to the far side of fork.

autienotnaughty · 11/11/2022 23:18

Literally giving zero forks

marvellousmaple · 11/11/2022 23:19

After, sadly, having carers in my house for years , a lot of them do steal stuff. I trusted these people so much but I'd do something like go to use my Chanel no. 5 and it was just an empty box. So disappointing as you are living with these people. The knife and fork could easily be an accident though OP

AlwaysLatte · 11/11/2022 23:21

It's far more common for a knife and fork to have been thrown away by mistake, than spirited away in some sort of elaborate cutlery heist.

Gazelda · 11/11/2022 23:06

Could they not have simply been misplaced? Or she used them to watcher lunch and accidentally put them in her Tupperware instead of your dishwasher? Why on earth would she steal one knife and one fork?

How does one misplace a knife and fork!

Ramble0n · 11/11/2022 23:08

Would you give a fork though?

I do! Because they cost £160! (the whole set, not one knife and fork)

She starts with the cutlery......... what's next?

I sound insane. Fucking hell. Who the fuck steals a knife and fork?

OP posts:
MakeItRain · 11/11/2022 23:25

Yes. A relative has carers and one was caught stealing from an elderly lady in her care. :(

ticktocktickboom · 11/11/2022 23:26

Feysriana · 11/11/2022 23:10

OP they didn’t steal it, but they probably did throw it away when clearing the kitchen, I’ve accidentally binned cutlery a fee times it’s surprisingly easy to do if careless.

That said, most carers I’ve had contact with have also stolen money/jewellery, so keep an eye on your valuables.

That's my concern. It's not about the fucking fork. It's that I have a lot of valuable items here and if someone will steal a fucking knife and fork, an ipad is going to be more lucrative!

Gazelda · 11/11/2022 23:26

Put in the wrong drawer? Accidentally tucked under the tea towels? Dropped underneath the washing up bowl in the sink? Slipped in the bin while scraping the plate? Paired up with a napkin and then put in the napkin drawer? Absent mindedly Taken upstairs with the laundry? Dropped on the floor and the cat knocked it under the veg rack?

Ramble0n · 11/11/2022 23:27

Those carers, eh? Just out to nick your stuff.

Any of these are so easily done. As is taking it (accidentally) home with her own Tupperware

Appreciate it's an expensive cutlery set as a set but doubt there would be much value in a single knife or fork for her to gain from

PoseyFlump · 11/11/2022 23:14

The OP has forked off.

The OP forked out a lot of money for her fucking forks!

Now I'm a knife and fork short of a picnic.

Strangely, I have this heart monitor thing on at the moment. The cardiologist might be a little perplexed when he gets the results. 'What exactly were you doing at 10.30pm???'

OP posts:
ColdHandsHotHead · 11/11/2022 23:30

Maybe she borrowed them to eat her lunch and packed them up by accident?

ladydimitrescu · 11/11/2022 23:30

I highly doubt that they would steal a knife and fork. How would they know it's from an expensive set? I wouldn't know a fancy fork from a standard one - think you're a tad paranoid on this occasion.

I'm not paranoid. I can count from one to 6 though.

I could see that happening if they had people to feed and were low on cutlery.

A carer stole from my grandad before but usually they are the most caring people. I think you'll sound mental if you bring this up. Just keep an eye out or install one of those cameras.

ticktocktickboom · 11/11/2022 23:38

toomuchlaundry · 11/11/2022 23:32

What do you mean she doesn’t do anything?

She generally comes in and texts on her phone. I asked her this morning out of a combination of both annoyance and curiosity, what she was reading. She told me it was HollyBook. I presumed it was something like Facebook. Nope. It was the holy book. She had to accompany me to an appointment today and when we got back, she needed to sit down because she was feeling dizzy apparently.... So she doesn't do anything really. The other one is better.

Do you do a headcount before bed every night OP? If so, do you check a whole range of things are present and correct before relaxing or is your focus specifically on the cutlery?

Plates
Bowls
Mugs
Glasses

That's just crockery. You could be there all night!

ticktocktickboom · 11/11/2022 23:40

I've these fucking sticky things on me with a heart monitor thing and I had to help her, which has meant that the sticky things are now falling off.

Last I checked, none of them have heads.

ladydimitrescu · 11/11/2022 23:41

I didn't say they weren't missing - you are absolutely paranoid if you can't find a fork and assume a carer would steal it.
Cutlery is cutlery - who on earth would think you paid £160 for it? I don't think I know anyone who would look at a fork and think "Corr that's expensive", unless it was encrusted with diamonds. It's very likely been misplaced. If it was jewellery, cash, a phone, I can see why you might be concerned, but not for a bloody fork.

Ohcrapp · 11/11/2022 23:42

I once stole a whole set of expensive cutlery from my job when I moved out 🤣 ( hotel ) when my partner would use it at work people would then STEAL it from the sink. I have none left now 🤣 so yes I believe she may of😂
