AWFUL NAMES TO CALL YOU CHILD...

Justine888 · 29/01/2008 16:24

I dont think there's anything people get more worked up over something that is none of their business than what someone has or wants to call their child.
With this in mind, I thought it might be fun for people to nominate some really bad names they've heard friends or relatives have given to these poor little children.... Whats the worst you've ever heard?
Who knows... this page might be inspiration for some pregnant ladies out there!
Have fun!

NortherLurker, I also knew a midwife who told us about the chlamydia thing, either it's an urban legend amongst midwives or I know you from somewhere

booge · 29/01/2008 18:13

Polly Hester. Yes really!

louloulouise - I think it could well be an urban myth amongst the midwifery community Unless there's lots of parents out there goingn for it........eeeeeeeek!

windyweather · 29/01/2008 18:19

In my dd school there is.

Betty Buttercup
Red Roses

Both adorable little girls and sisters too. brother got equally mad name but cannot remember it.

RosaLuxOnTheBrightSideOfLife · 29/01/2008 18:23

Booge - Where was your Polly Hester from? DH knew one...

miobombino · 29/01/2008 18:30

Well there are a lot of names I can't stand, but don't want to offend.

However something I do find irritating is when parents call two or more of their children basically the same name because they just haven't been arsed to check the name's meaning, or where abbreviated forms come from.

eg. John and Sean, or John and Ian. Same name, just with Celtic variants.

eg. Beth and Lizzie, Kitty and Katya (both from Katharine).

Is it just me being pedantic,or is that irritatingly lazy ?

I went to school with Darren Pipe who has had a son called Dwain.

Dwain Pipe.

At dps work he knows someone called Topsy Bacon.

Elmundo.

I wanted to give my son that middle name, but the registrar, of spanish origin kicked up such a fuss I shortened it slightly.

evenhope · 29/01/2008 18:43

Chlamydia is an urban myth. I just checked ancestry and there are no matches up to 2005, and no matches on bounty either.

Perhaps they get confused with Candida which is a real name as well as an unpleasant fungal infection?

NorthernLurker · 29/01/2008 18:48

but there wouldn't be any matches would there if mum and dad always get talked out of it on the delivery ward? Of course that's a key thing about an urban myth - you can never prove it one way or the other really

MummyPenguin · 29/01/2008 18:50

Having only read the OP and first couple posts, the first thing that sprung to my mind is "why is this in AIBU?"

MummyPenguin · 29/01/2008 18:57

There's a Tuesday and a Wednesday in my DS's school. They're in the same year. Same class possibly.

shelleylou · 29/01/2008 19:04

yetanothername · 29/01/2008 19:10

Gosh, I didn't know on ancestry you could search for recent names! A bit freaky to see my child's full name on there when I just searched for his first name!

cherryredretrochick · 29/01/2008 19:10

I have a friend called candida, she is mortified now but in the 70's her mopther had no idea.

Both my Dds have 'unusual' names and I will have a fight with anyone who inadvertantly mentions them.

Sunshinemummy · 29/01/2008 19:16

Worst name I know personally is a little girl called Demi Jordan Adidas - second two parts of which are after types of trainer.

Firend's mum was called Isabella Bell before she got married.

anal is one that we came accross too when looing for a name for our dd (who you will think has a chavvy name)

anal actually means fiery!!

cherryredretrochick · 29/01/2008 19:21

In the baby names book we had they actually had Gaylord, can't remember what it meant though.

louloulouise · 29/01/2008 19:42

NorthernLurker - unless you did your training at Chester.....

MotherofTitus · 29/01/2008 20:03

My son is called Titus. His name really suits him, and we think it is a fantastic name and have never had any negative comments. I was very surprised to see it as the first name mentioned on this thread as a crap thing to call your child.

I am a regular btw
