AWFUL NAMES TO CALL YOU CHILD...

I dont think there's anything people get more worked up over something that is none of their business than what someone has or wants to call their child.
With this in mind, I thought it might be fun for people to nominate some really bad names they've heard friends or relatives have given to these poor little children.... Whats the worst you've ever heard?
Who knows... this page might be inspiration for some pregnant ladies out there!
Have fun!

My friend worked with a girl called Shine who had a sister called Star and a brother called... Darren.

Always used to make me larf!

figroll · 31/01/2008 16:17

I know of a child called Joop! (she is a girl so they decided not to go for pour homme) and I used to know someone called Mary Christmas - she married father Christmas.

That list of Scottish names is hilarious - Peebles, Rhythm, Roxi-Reene - why are the girls more "game for a laugh" than the boys? Eilidh and Aoife seem very popular - people must just love being asked how to spell the name every time someone sends a birthday card. I have a funny surname and it gets on my wick!

figroll · 31/01/2008 16:30

I am going down these names and I just can't believe some of them - I - I wonder if his surname is robot?

There don't seem to be very many "ordinary" names like Michael - even Christopher has to be spelt with a K and with 2 ffs in it.

Yummers · 31/01/2008 16:31

my dp likes the following for a boy:

Leyton Orient (as in the terrible footie team)
Indiana (as in Jones)

evenhope · 31/01/2008 17:54

Today I came across a 12 yr old boy called- I kid you not- Butch

To make matters worse this is also his older brother's middle name!

camlivandjj · 31/01/2008 18:00

my ds1 has the same middle name as my ds2's first name is this bad?? btw its not butch

Paddlechick666 · 01/02/2008 08:25

I went to school with a Zappa, in honour of Frank Zappa. Got a lot of leg pulling on the eating of yellow snow.

Also worked with a guy called Wayne Carr. He always introduced himself as Wayne John Carr tho. Poor bugger!

My dd has a relatively unusual name but most people seem to like it. It has one or two well known appearances in fiction/movies and it does annoy me a little when people go "ooooh yea, from the movie?". it honestly wasn't, i just liked it!

clouisewood · 01/02/2008 08:48

Paddlechick My DD is called Lara and people always ask if it's because of Lara Croft...how annoying!! We were watching Dr Zhivago when she was a few days old and decided that we loved the name...I don't care if other people don't like it because I love it :O
I was taught by a Phil Mering and he always introduces himself as Mr Mare-ring..

Vulgar · 01/02/2008 08:53

Oh, i love Lara. Dh voted it for the same reason and in the end we had Ds. Still love it tho'.

clouisewood · 01/02/2008 08:56

Good to know someone else loves it too
Thanks Vulgar

Blossomhill · 01/02/2008 09:02

I remember hearing the name merlin being shouted out in a playground. Poor kid

AdamAnt · 01/02/2008 09:06

eidsvold - ROFL at Peter, Peta an Peter Peters

squilly · 01/02/2008 09:38

I once knew someone called Casseiopia after the constellation. Thought that was a bit bizarre. She was called Cassie, which was o.k. though.

I think sometimes names are bizarre because of the surnames they get put with, but can't list any here, obviously, just in case (a) someone recognises me (b)they know where I live and (c) they do me over...as someone would who calls their child Avishag or similar!

squilly · 01/02/2008 09:41

I also once knew a woman called Mrs Knickers...well I say I knew her. I had to call her up to chase her outstanding account once a month...not so easy in an open plan office with 3 eejit co-workers who were ptsl in the background!

Paddlechick666 · 01/02/2008 10:28

clouisewood, i feel your pain. My RL name is very similar to Lara Croft and I used to get it all the time.

Thank god Tomb Raider's not so popular anymore eh!

evenhope · 01/02/2008 10:32

dmo I was marvelling over why you'd call two of your sons Butch, so you're OK.

nonnie12 · 01/02/2008 13:45

shabster · 01/02/2008 13:55
