I just wish there was a fair crack for all our sons and daughters to get theses opportunities 🤢

Nepotism has ruined Hollywood and everything else. There’s no real excitement about talent anymore. Look at the Beckhams kids, opportunities because of David and Victoria. Dozens and dozens of examples. What chance do ordinary folk have.

PetraBP · 07/11/2022 19:11

Welcome to the world.

DomesticShortHair · 07/11/2022 19:11

I remember last year a joke on TV about the Jacob Rees-Mogg themed advent calendar, where all the doors are opened by Daddy’s friends.

gogohmm · 07/11/2022 19:11

He's been a presenter on capital radio for years, that's where they hired him from

MrsHughesPinny · 07/11/2022 19:11

That’s how media has been for a long time. It happens in most lucrative industries though. Networks give people a massive leg up. A member of my family is on tv and their kids get tons of opportunities because of it.

BeLikeElsa · 07/11/2022 19:13

Can your son even sing?

redbigbananafeet · 07/11/2022 19:14

He's a hugely successful Radio 1 DJ and has been for many years.

dottiedodah · 07/11/2022 19:14

It's the nature of the beast though isn't it.jobs for the boys and girls and all that.not fair but never changes sadly

redbigbananafeet · 07/11/2022 19:14

*Capital

Neapolitanicecream · 07/11/2022 19:17

So how did he get the radio dj job ? So much for the bbc having open and fair recruitment????

OP posts:
QueSyrahSyrah · 07/11/2022 19:18

It wasn't the BBC it was Capital. His Dad being who he is probably helped open doors but if he wasn't any good at the job in his own right he wouldn't have been successful, popular and therefore kept on.

Mummieslncorporated · 07/11/2022 19:19

Roman Kemp has been working in radio as a presenter for probably ten years now. He's well known in his own right, and was on I'm a celebrity because of it.

You don't land a prime time TV presenting job of you haven't proven yourself capable beforehand.

If your son is interested in a career in media, there are plenty of ways in. Persistence is key.

RobertaFirmino · 07/11/2022 19:20

Alex Jones doesn't have famous parents though. Christine Lampard didn't either. As far as I know, they both started at the bottom of the pile.

What does your son actually do?

HotDogJumpingFrogHaveACookie · 07/11/2022 19:20

I don't know. What about your son? Is he a known presenter? Has he had a radio show and honed his skills for the last decade or so?

I don't watch the one show, but I'm pretty sure they have "names" as their presenters.

pastabakeonaplate · 07/11/2022 19:21

It's like when drs kids get in to study medicine. They naturally have a small headstart as they are aware more what it involves and can get work experience more easily and perhaps maybe see their parents work ethic and work hard or have inherited a natural aptitude towards that particular field of employment. But ultimately they have to proove themselves.

Neapolitanicecream · 07/11/2022 19:22

thousands apply for the basic roles impossible to get your foot in the door when you’re up against famous dads

OP posts:
Mummieslncorporated · 07/11/2022 19:23

Do you really think everyone working in TV and radio has a famous dad? 🤣

CatchYouOnTheFlippetyFlop · 07/11/2022 19:24

Nepotism is notorious in media.

Not just TV. Journalism too.

MrsMitford3 · 07/11/2022 19:25

I'm not sure why you have targeted this particular "son of a famous singer" who is actually the son of 2 famous singers

He is very popular and may have had a door open for him but he has worked in a very fickle industry for a long time-he is on gogglebox as well and comes across as a very likeable guy.

There are plenty of worse examples of nepo babies-with no talent repeatedly getting amazing jobs and it seems a bit unfair to point out this one.
Did your son audition for the One Show and not get it?

Movinghouseatlast · 07/11/2022 19:25

Don't be ridiculous. If your son is mega talented he will make it. Lots of sons and daughters of famous people have tried and failed at being actors etc if they are not talented.

Georgeskitchen · 07/11/2022 19:26

Christine Lampard has a famous hubby though😉

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 07/11/2022 19:26

But more famous people don’t have famous parents and more children of famous people don’t go on to become famous themselves. Some children of famous people will have inherited/ developed more confidence and charisma due to nature/ nurture. Roman Kemp is famous on his own right anyway.

Florenz · 07/11/2022 19:26

The BBC should not hire anyone related to a current or former employee.

woodhill · 07/11/2022 19:26

It's always been like that

Beanbagtrap · 07/11/2022 19:27

This is every industry. Who you know matters. Why would people bother with private school otherwise? Being 'in the club' matters.

People don't like risk. Hiring your mate's son isn't risky as you know they have the same background as you, they know the same references, someone vouches for them etc etc.
