I'm looking for a new more modern dressing table as mine is over 30 yrs old and quite large and dark.
I'm going round in circles.
Anyone bought one recently and where from

I’ve also got the IKEA hemnes but the mirror broke, so I’ve now got a light up one on it instead

Also I had no idea dressing tables were so controversial and seen as something only old people would haveConfused

I have an old one. It looks much more modern after I gave it a coat of white paint to brighten the dark wood and cover some minor surface damage.

If you can't find a new one you like, maybe paint is an option for you, too.

countvoncount · 06/11/2022 19:18

I have one too!
Couldn't be without it!
Those mocking them....how on earth do you put make up on?

Batshitkerazy · 06/11/2022 19:19

Whaaaat I thought dressing tables were a perfectly normal thing to have? Where do you do your makeup and blow dry/straighten your hair otherwise 😁

SuperlativeOxymoron · 06/11/2022 19:19

Currently using a windowsill as we don't have space, but as we're in the process of moving, I have this pinned (I'm 30 and it will NEVER be this tidy)

I set mine on fire by accident Blush

whatisforteamum · 06/11/2022 19:21

Ooh love it.Those lights look great.
I sit at mine on the edge of the bed to do my make and hair.
I 've got scented candles on it too.

@countvoncount same! I love my dressing table. Growing up I had to sit on the floor in front of my mirror and it’s such a luxury to me to have somewhere nice to sit and do my hair / make up. (I’m 30, not 90!).

if you don’t have one where do you get ready?!

tickticksnooze · 06/11/2022 19:21

Is this literally just a dedicated table for putting on makeup?

I don’t have one but am very jealous of those who have the space for one!

I have a mirror on a tall chest of drawers and stand there to do my hair. Usually I do my make up in front of the bathroom mirror as the light is better in there.

kerkyra · 06/11/2022 19:22

Cotswold company do some lovely ones.

Mine's a chest of drawers - make up and jewellery on top, clothes within. Also too messy to post a pic.

Same, but mine is reasonably tall and I have a mirror on top so I stand in front and do my makeup.
Never had a dressing table. If I had a nice big bedroom I'd probably like one though.

whatisforteamum · 06/11/2022 19:25

I often don't feel like a proper woman, so obviously it's more me than everyone else. But I don't know anyone who has one. For me it's partly space (I've always lived in small houses, and thinking about it, so does everyone I know, and I'd rather have room for an extra bookcase in my bedroom than a table with very little storage) but it's more that I don't wear make up, and spend the minimum time possible doing my hair. When I did wear make up, I stood in the bathroom to do it. When I dry my hair, I do it quickly on the landing because that's where the easiest access plug is.

For me yes, makeup and I do my morning skincare there

Dukekaboom · 06/11/2022 19:31

I have this one and love it - the compartments are great for organising make up

We've just moved house so I haven't set it up yet but I have the Dunelm Franklin desk in black with a big mirror from Urban Outfitters on top. It's lovely.

whatisforteamum · 06/11/2022 19:33

I think I need the Ikea one.
That would give give me somewhere to put my make up and the scope for a lovely mirror or lights.
Also it looks quite streamlined as my bedroom has limited space.
Very helpful thank you ladies.

I don't have one per se but I have an arm chair and then a gold mirrored bar cart to keep my stuff on. I think it looks quite chic and is quite practical.

You’re welcome. I’m sure you will like it. You can get the drawer inserts as well so can organise your make up etc. (pic from Pinterest)

I wouldn't mock one as they look nice.
My bedroom is small and it wouldn't fit.

So I have a shelf in the bathroom. I do my hair in the bathroom (extension cable for anything heated) and do make-up in the bathroom mirror. I put products on the shelf. Maybe it's not ideal but it seems a lot of people do hair and make-up in the bathroom now. It isn't really too different apart from you're standing.
